I'm gonna get to some other comments in this thread in a lil' bit, but I couldn't let this pass.Originally Posted by Fan4Life

There is an upside to this micro-management. It seems because trades are a problem, the management team has and is turning inward to building up the organization through draft choices, then free agent signings followed but trades if possible. A road maybe longer, but we will in time get there. This also gives time to build up relationships with the minor leaguers, instead of high priced, used rentals...our own people to win with.
Tony, have any of the previous owners of the O's been this bad of an owner?
If Angelos being overly cautious had anything to do with killing a deal for Prior then it was a GOOD thing!Originally Posted by davearm
I have a whole list of reasons for not liking Angelos but I've yet to be convinced that this is the causus belli it's being made out to be.
If the scenario was that the Jays were looking to deal Hillenbrand in a hurry before they worked out the rumored deal with the Angels and they gave us 3 hours to do it in, is anyone really all that upset it didn't get done?
What about a scenario where Lopez was going to be dealt for a middlin prospect earlier this month? Would we really have wanted to get rushed into that deal instead of potentially getting Burrell? I don't think so.
Again, if someone is pushing you to make a deal thisfast, there is probably a good reason to be cautious.
I'm willing to see if it was a good deal or not before I grab my torch and pitchfork (at least this time).
Those do seem to be reasonable comments.. but when our owner is the only one you hear about creating these kinds of problems, it gives you the impression that he acts differently than every other team and in most cases, adversely.Originally Posted by pdiddy
But Tony said they weren't vetoed just that Angelos didn't get around to approving them before they were pulled. They may have been offered a month ago and maybe he still hasn't gotten around to deciding or even looking at them.Originally Posted by pdiddy
I think that's partly true, and the minor league system has made great strides in the last couple years. But it doesn't really solve the problem. First, it's almost impossible to compete using solely or evenly mostly homegrown players. Even teams that have had great systems over the last 5-10 years (A's, Braves, Yankees) have still made lots of trades and signed plenty of FAs (even the A's). Second, even if the farm system were enough, it's not like Angelos' meddling can't have an effect there. He can screw up negotiations, refuse to invest in foreign operations, etc. There is an upside to this micro-management. I have seen the man's work in progress...He is a terrible owner..Been telling you guys that for years now.
Good organizations let baseball men make the decisions. Period, end of story. I don't care if Angelos decisions were right or not, it is not good for the organization for him to be calling the shots with regards to players.Originally Posted by pdiddy

I would love to know if Peter has ever read Moneyball.
Tony,
I just wanted to say thanks. I wil let everyone else chime in and say the same thing over and over...he sucks. Either we do something abut it, or we don't. Change will never happen without some action from somewhere, that I gurantee. I was about to get banned when I started reading this, but cooler heads and the fact that it is finally FRIDAY have prevailed.![]()

And you guys wonder why most things Belkast, WB and myself report never really happen.
I think most of us knew.... and appreciate your efforts...Originally Posted by bigbird
