I believe that commercial is supposed to rip off VH1 programming like Best Week Ever, I love the 90s, etc. In those shows they typically have "pop culture commentators" and out of work actors talk about stuff in society and make corny jokes. At least that's what the commercial reminded me of.

That's exactly what it's doing. The 'dingy' guy is Jeremy Miller, who played Ben on Growing Pains, so that fits in to the VH1 talking head format.

And the joke is a shot at the fact that the "menuaires" are short on money and/or frugal. "They act like money grows on trees...trees they can't find." Fairly straight forward.

It's a crappy annoying commercial (pretty much every modern McDonalds commercial is) but it's not that hard to get.

    He went to Jared!!

I hate any and all Jared commercials that start or end with that line. I even bought my fiance's engagement ring from Jared, but I freaking hate their commercials.

Jared great selection of jewelry crappy commercials.

Pretty much any jewerly retailer's commercials make me want to break my TV/radio. That Shaws "Straight to the heart" jingle makes me turn the radio dial pretty much immediately. Not to mention the general idea all of them convey: buy your woman a diamond or else you don't love her.

I'm getting pretty tired of this guy falling down the mountain with his Mountain Dew. Didn't find it very funny the first time I saw it, and it has gotten any better.

One of my favorite songs is in a University of Phoenix commercial. Rrrgh! I miss the days when ads mostly used oldies and so-called "classic rock", so at least people were able to enjoy those songs uncorrupted for at least 20-30 years. Now every ad agency has some hipster working for them, just waiting to taint fresh, new rock songs. Thanks for nothing, U of Phoenix.

Ain't that the truth. Now, the best way for a young band to get a big break is to sell a song to an advertiser or movie (see: Shins, Modest Mouse and thousands of crappy bands who have one decently catchy song). Works way better than touring for 10 years in the back of a van.

(BTW, I like the Shins and Modest Mouse; I'm just dissing the business, not NECESSARILY the music, although plenty of horrid music gets played on commercials and movies.)

What song got in the ad you referred to?

"The Bleeding Heart Show" by the New Pornographers. An awfully advertiser-friendly song, if you play the part without lyrics, as they do in the commercial

I've got a new one that I detest.

Some commercial for an office supply store (Staples? Office Depot? Who cares?). Well, this office "needs a hand" with their stuff and they have......a hand in box. The hand goes to the store with them, points them in the right direction, even answers the office phone for them.

A (seemingly dismembered but still animated) hand in a box is just flat-out CREEPY.

that commercial came on while me and some friends were watching tv last night. At the part where the guy bounces off the truck with rocks in it my roomate says "those rocks are fake!".

Apparently the entire commercial of the guy falling off of a cliff, bouncing through a shack, running into trees looks very realistic and could happen, but man, those rocks just ruined it!

Oh my god me too. I hate every single jewelry commercial. The 2nd theme is: Women are shallow and won't love you if you don't buy the right jewelry. My least favorite one is old and I don't think they play it anymore. The couple is in some foreign country looking all lovely dovey and the man holds out his arms and screams, "I LOVE THIS WOMAN!" and the woman acts so embarrassed that her man is making a scene and proclaiming his love. Then he gives her a diamond and she hugs him and whispers, "I love this man." UGH. It makes me want to yak all over the place.

Haha, I'm the same way, except with the Sonic commercials. You know the ones that feature 2 guys sitting in their cars arguing like catty women? Well, they're either

    A) parked in the drive-thru with the engine off or
    B) sitting in the parking lot with their seat belts on while the car isn't running

Either way, it just doesn't work.

All Jared jewelry commercials are terrible but the newish one with the dancing has achieved a new, unprecedented level of suck.
