SI: What Texas wants for Tex
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...ade/index.html
"Texas isn't giving away Teixeira, however; the Rangers requested a package of both Miguel Tejada and Erik Bedard in talks with Baltimore. The Orioles remain extremely interested in Teixeira, a Maryland native, but while they'd trade Tejada straight-up for Teixeira, they told Texas they couldn't part with Bedard in that scenario"

Here's my: best-kept secret in baseball. Remember, just my opinion:
Mark Teixeira is baseball's most overrated player.

Is there anyone out there that wants to blame the FO for not taking that????? I would not do Miggy for Tex straight up. I very well Might do Bedard and Olsen, but Texas won't so I guess we wait until FA time.

Rangers: Miggy AND Bedard for Tex
SI's Jon Heyman had this in his column today...
Someone with knowledge of Texas' situation predicted the Rangers would "blow things up,'' and it appears they are now willing to trade Mark Teixeira. Besides trading Kevin Mench, Laynce Nix and Francisco Cordero in July for Carlos Lee and offering Hank Blalock to multiple teams, the Rangers already have engaged in talks that would send Teixeira to Baltimore.Tex for Miggy straight up is fine. But Miggy AND Bedard is insanity. I understand it's the Rangers' job to see if they can get the best deal possible, but there's no way trade can ever happen.. If they said Miggy and Benson, and they throw in someone else...that's cool. But our best player and our best pitcher? After Tex's showing in the last three games, I'd love to get him, but not by at that cost.
Texas isn't giving away Teixeira, however; the Rangers requested a package of both Miguel Tejada and Erik Bedard in talks with Baltimore. How about a package of Russ Ortiz, Bruce Chen, and Rodrigo Lopez for Tex??

09-01-2006 03:10 PM #6LOL. That's a bold statement. I think you went a little too far but I do think he's overrated also.

I wouldn't do Miggy straight up, either. I think it would have to be some multi-player trade to get something done. I would definitely want Teixera, though. He would solve our first base problems for a long time.
I heard on the telecast last night that he grew up as a big Yankees fan and wears number 23 in tribute to Don Mattingly. I'm not so sure he'd be willing to sign here when free agency hits.

Wow, I will take the bait. This ought to be interesting. Most 26 years old working on his third +900 OPS season, that hit a hr every 17 times at bat over thier career, that is not a liability in the field are gererally thought of as pretty good. what nugget do you think you have???

I like that idea! Hell...I'd even throw in Todd Williams to make that deal happen!

Maybe he should have said "the most overrated player on the Oriole Hangout message board." THAT is undoubtedly true.

I think I can answer this one.

This year, his OPS is .870. Which is very good, and certainly above average, but the raw number is not that much better than Tejada, and he plays in a bandbox, so his numbers are likely to go down a bit if he moves away from Arlington. Miguel is a top-5 to top-10 player in baseball, depending on who you ask, and the only shortstop you can mention in the same breath as him is Jeter. And with Teixeira, we suddenly have a gaping hole at shortstop, where it is extremely difficult to find offense. On the other hand, it's relatively easy to find first-basemen that can hit .790-.810 and be a significant improvement over this year's 1b production

For one thing, his OBP is merely good, not elite. Although his walks have increased each season, and he already has more this year than his previous career high, so maybe he's improved.
I'd probably trade Tejada for him. Remember, he's just entering his prime, so he could get even better.
