........figure out to the penny what each of the 16 people owes to the tab,
rather than just splitting it evenly (with tip).....

So what if Mary's entree was $11.95 and yours was $9.95 or that Fred had 2 $4 drinks and Joe only had 1.
Well, I agree with you FWIW. Except in extreme cases, I think it's a bit cheap to calculate the exact number to make sure you aren't gipped.

I do it. I don't make a whole lot of money so I'm not about to pay for someone elses meal. Conversely, I don't expect anyone to pay for my meal if I get something more expensive.

Dash it, it's Belgian waffle, not "Belgium" waffle. You don't say "Italy food," "France fries," or "Japan car." And my dog, Ike, is a Belgian sheepdog, not a "Belgium" sheepdog.

Thank you. I'm feeling much better now.

By the same token, how some Mac users won't shut up about how better Macs are. A phenomenon so prevalent and pretentious that they even made a slew of commercials about it.

Exactly. If it's close, you don't grumble over a couple dollars, but there are some people out there who always order expensive things and expect others to pick up the tab for it. For example, one of my professors, who happens to be a filthy rich urban designer/land developer with a multi-million dollar house, took a group of grad students on an overnight field trip. He led them all to a very expensive restaurant even though several of them protested that it was beyond their budget. The students who were against it ended up going in and ordering a salad or a soup and drinking water because they couldn't afford anything else. The professor proceeded to order an expensive meal plus an appetizer and about 6 mixed drinks (he's a bit of a drinker) and then declare that they were going to split the bill evenly. They rebelled somewhat, but each of them still ended up paying much more than their share... and much more than they could reasonably afford on a starving grad student's part-time salary.

SOrry, that was a long rant.

PS- I got on this thread because I hate when my cat knocks over glasses of water on my furniture. She does it all the time, on purpose, because she would rather steal my water than drink what's in her bowl... and I even give her Brita water because the tap water in New Jersey really does taste like garbage.

That reminds me of the episode of Friends where they all went out to dinner for someone's b-day (Ross' ?). The employed and fairly well-off Chandler, Ross, and Monica ordered expensive meals while the unemployed (Joey) and barely employed (Rachel and Phoebe) ordered salads and water. Joey, Rachel, and Pheebs threw a collective fit when the other three wanted to split the bill equally.

    I love that show.

I like how you actually got the accent on the e. Nerd.

Also, soon he'll be getting you to fight his battles for him. Book it...it's science.

Beer vendors at the ballgame. Or any vendor for that matter, but the beer vendors are always the loudest. I'm sitting there, maybe enjoying a conversation or just enjoying the game or whatnot, and someone walks by me shouting "Beerman miller LITE!"

I know they need to advertise and all but it doesn't stop it from being annoying, especially since I don't drink beer.

    Four of 'em...

    1) Ants. Stay outside where you belong.

    2) The fact that I don't enjoy the NBA as much as I used to. (The NBA Finals marathon on ESPN Classic is more entertaining than games these days.)

    3) Nerds with Star Wars handles making fun of nerds with handles inspired by the Harry Potter books. What's next? Going to throw your pocket protectors at each other?

    4) Oh... and yeah, the Orioles in general. So bad.....

Yup. But, reading the book was even worse. My imagined Pennywise was much more scary than the movie Pennywise. So much so, that I flipped out on a regular basis when I had to go down the basement steps at my parents'.

-People who don't clean up after themselves, especially re: dishes and toilets.

    -Weather below 25 degrees.
I just threw up in my mouth b/c someone referred to Pearl Jam as "classic rock."

    I hate getting old.
