Hi Cindy. I am in Abingdon, just a few minutes from you. So, I guess I'm saying "Howdy Neighbor." Or something to that effect.

*People who are too stubborn (me) or too lazy (me) to look up the difference between the words 'affect' and 'effect'. I can't stand myself.

*Spilling hot coffee on yourself and sueing the place you bought it for its being 'too hot'.

*Spam. - Unless it's a Monty Python reference.

*Verizon DSL claiming to be just as fast as cable. There needs to be a group that monitors these commercials, so that at the end of a commercial they can hit a button and claim "Shenanigans!!". At which point we'd all get are brooms and storm the culprit's corporate office.

I feel quite confident in saying my brother could not find his way to Bel Air. He probably doesn't even know there is such a place. I don't even know if he can get to the grocery store and back, and that's exactly two miles from our house.

Combine a very bad sense of direction with complete obliviousness to his surroundings and I'm expecting to get a call on my cell phone any day now asking for directions back from his girlfriend's house.

Y'all are going to have a LOT more traffic rants until he goes to college in August.

I'm only half-kidding, BTW. I have no idea how he passed. He can't drive. He pumps the accelerator constantly and is always shaking the wheel and NEVER pays attention to what's going on around him. Riding with him requires Valium and Dramamine.
Heck , I can't parallel park either yet MD gave me a license. However , I do have a sensational sense of direction. I don't get lost

Parallel parking should not be on the drivers exam. I could do it when my drivers ed instructor was in the car, and I was BARELY able to do it on the test (it took me three minutes or so to get close enough to the curb). That was 7ish years ago and I haven't parallel parked since. I tried to do it once at a wedding, I remember, and couldn't help but be 18 inches or so from the curb. After that I gave up and drove around back of the building and parked much farther away just to avoid parallel parking.

Are you kidding me? The MD test is enough of a joke. Not to mention that simply because you don't do it all that much, that doesn't mean it's useless. Try parking anywhere around the city without having to parallel park once in a while.

Well that's the benefit of not living IN the city for me. The parallel parking part of the test alone nearly made me fail since I took so long. The times I do end up going into Washington or Baltimore, I always manage to park without having to parallel park, so it's never been an issue for me that I can't.

Well, it's the MD driving test, not whatever city/county/whatnot you live in. Not to mention when I parallel park, it's in Towson.

I parallel park maybe twice a year, absolute max, and it's definitely a skill everyone should have.

Kinda like bunting in the ML's. Everyone SHOULD know how, though it's painfully obvious that only a select few do.

My mom taught me how to parallel park in the overflow lot behind the Gaithersburg DMV 30 minutes before the test. On the actual test, I got within 4 inches of the curb on the first try.

I haven't parallel-parked again and I have never actually parked between cars, just cones and poles. Living in the suburbs and avoiding the confusion that is driving in DC like the plague, I haven't needed it yet. Metro is much, much easier.

If I had a big gap and no pressure, I could probably do it, but I'd be plenty nervous. I was driving in Lexington, MA a few years ago and saw some middle-aged dude trying to parallel park in a really tiny spot. I could tell from 300 feet away that there wasn't enough room, yet this guy kept trying to fit. Sure enough, he accidently rams the Subaru parked behind him and speeds off. Idiot.

Edit: If I'd been closer, I would have gotten his license number, but I couldn't see, and we drove past the Subaru and there wasn't any damage, so no harm, no foul, I guess.

It's not that hard, you simply have to play it careful and know how big your vehicle is.

Or get one of those new cars that has an auto-park feature on it. How sweet are those things? We're gonna be flying in the air like the Jetsons before we know it people.
