To those afraid of snakes: are you also afraid of skinks? legless lizards? eels? Where is the line drawn? I mean, I would be terrified if confronted face to face with something like a great white shark, and I have been within inches of rattlesnakes, water moccasins, sharks, barracudas, and more, but just categorically fearing a grouping of animals makes no sense to me, I guess

And as for black racers, they are non-venomous and eat rodents, so whats so scary about that?

I bet you're afraid of something and it's probably something others would think makes no sense.

I really can't stand this type of attitude. Snakes, for the most part, do no harm to people who leave them alone. Like some have said, they often are beneficial to people. But most importantly, animals should not be killed unless there's good reason, and I don't think a snake living in it's natural habitat, which happens to be near one's house, is a good reason.

If the snake gives me a heart attack while cutting my lawn, is that proper provocation for Moose to then come over and chop that little bastard into chopped suey?

My wife and I have two pet snakes. They are albino pythons. Sometimes we let them sleep in the bed with us. They are not that bad.

The only problem we have ever had with them was a year or so ago we forgot to feed the bigger one. When we came home it was found eating our yorkie. It was real cool to see that bump. Needless to say our daughter was not happy.

    Are you serious with that?

And just because you're scared of something doesn't mean you have to kill it.

Wow, I'll refrain from the obvious joke about a snake in bed and whatnot...

(if you don't get it, ask your neighbor)

I am scared nearly to a heart attack of this damn little 18 inch garter or corn or black snake that is under my air conditioner. However, I have yet to kill it. I don't know that I could do it with my hands. I do love animals, just hate snakes. I wish he would just go to the neighbors house or something!

Now, that said, if it happens to be sunbathing in the middle of the yard as opposed to hiding like a coward by the air conditioning unit...well, that little bastard is fair game then! If I nail him with the lawn mower, it will be no different than running over a twig!

No they don't. No animal is stupid enough to chase something 50 times it's size. While you guys are running away in panic, you convince yourself that you're being chased.

That would be like a sea otter chasing a great white. It just doesn't happen like that.

I'm telling you Burds, that little son of a mother snake was chasing me like you chasing me around to respond to all of my posts! It was chasing me like Homer Simpson chasing a donut. It was chasing me like Witchy chasing BRob through the parking lot at Camden Yards!

As the owner of 4 Yorkies, I would find nothing "cool" about seeing that bump.
