Reimold, Rowell make BA hot list

    Per Baseball America:

    5. Nolan Reimold, of, Double-A Bowie (Orioles)

Reimold missed a huge chunk of the season battling oblique problems, but is having little trouble in his return to the EL from a stint in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League. Last week, Reimold batted .458 with a pair of homers and is now hitting .336/.374/.595 overall.

    15. Bill Rowell, 3b, low Class A Delmarva (Orioles)

After spending some time in extended spring training, Rowell has been consistent for most of the 2007 season. Last week he went on a tear hitting .400/.400/.667 in 30 at-bats with 10 RBIs and eight runs scored. He is now hitting .287/.354/.444 in 275 at-bats.

I think one thing not being talked about in regards to Rowell is the oblique injury.

Ramon has said he is still bothered by his from time to time...For Rowell to do what he has done, after missing a lot of development time early and having a nagging injury is pretty incredible.

If Rowell's ok, w/he go to the Az. Fall League? I'd think Reimold s/b in winter ball, playing in a tougher league like PR, Venezuela, etc.

Arizona Fall League ball is composed of mostly AA/AAA guys. By rule they need to have finished the last month at that level. Teams are allowed one exception from A ball. I don't know if it matters what level of A ball, but every year it's been one member of the Keys who went. Whether by rule it was a High A requirement or not I don't know.

Nah, doubtful Rowell will go to Az. Probably next year though.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Wieters in Arizona if we get him signed. Let him finish the year in Frederick then he can be our one representative below AA.

I would like that player to be Tripp to see if he can handle it and perhaps start in Bowie next year. He is a tad old for Delmarva this year.

Why not let Wieters go straight to Bowie so you can still send another player to the fall league?

Yes, I've seen him against Bowie now a couple of times and he's been a pretty effective closer for them (19 saves in 23 games). If I remember right, he said in an interview that he just loves to play the game and wants to play as long as he can. You gotta love that.

Because he'd have needed to be there for a month. Otherwise he's the only A-ball player who can go.

With the restrictions that are in the AFL... check out the Hawaii Winter Baseball.

While major league teams are still months away from designating players for the 2007 HWB season, we wanted to give the fans a glance at who might be headed to Hawaii. This list is unofficial and solely reflects the opinions of the HWB Web Editor which are based on the current performances of the players and the needs of their respective organizations. Check out the list, and send any questions or comments to kyle@hawaiiwinterbaseball.com.
Those that he thinks the Orioles will send.

    Brandon Erbe, RHP (starter)
    Kieron Pope, OF
    Chorye Spoone, RHP (starter)
    Matt Wieters, C

This is without me having had any sort of discussion whatsoever about this with anyone about this, but I'd be stunned if Erbe played winter or fall ball. He's not going to be 20 until December and while he's struggled some this year, he's extremely young for the league and the O's have been pretty good about making sure not to put stress on his arm.

I suppose it wouldn't be ludicrous to think he went there and pitched an inning or two per week in relief, but I doubt it happens. Spoone? Maybe, but I haven't looked at his inning differential from last year to this year. Pitchers who go there will probably be ones who missed some time with injury or were on short season teams.
