This actually gives me confidence... He'll be an Oriole if that almost $6m figure is accurate. Make that a take it or leave it offer and he'll be an Oriole. No way in hell he turns that down. Boras is just trying to get the O's to do something stupid and sweeten the offer more between now and tommorrow night.

Sorry, but I have a hard time blaming the O's for not wanting to pay $10 million for someone who hasn't proven a freaking thing outside of college.
If Boras/Wieter can't come at least halfway, then they can suck it.

"I don't believe there is any reason to comment on ongoing negotiations," said Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail, who is handling the negotiations with Boras. "We've got some time left, and hopefully things will work out."
I like this...a lot. Hopefully he's just keeping it a secret to keep the rep for Boras

I admire those of you that have confidence that this will somehow get done.

08-14-2007 08:49 PM #8That scares me. We're only at $6M. I think we'd need to go somewhere in the $8M range to get it done.a Boras client, Rick Porcello. The pitcher, selected 27th in the first round out of a New Jersey high school, agreed to a four-year deal with the Detroit Tigers for $7.28 million.

Logic might agree with you, but this is baseball. A guy who slipped to the 27th pick or so got $7 million dollars. This is the day and age where guys get stupid amounts of money to sign with a team. Is it right? Hell no. But it's the way it is and we've got to either play the game or give up.
If I'm the O's I just stop screwing around. Another $5 million isn't a huge amount of money for a baseball team that just started its own network. We can afford it. What we CAN'T afford, is to let this potential impact player go.

as opposed to paying $6M for someone who hasn't proven a thing? THis is what it takes to sign top talent in the draft. if they weren't prepared to open the checkbook, don't draft the players. then we can just start drafting 4th and 5th round talent with our first pick so we don't get stuck with the big contracts. that's a sure fire way to put an end to the losing ways!!
Come on guys - who really cares if it costs angelos an extra 2-3, even $4m to get thsi done - just get it done!! put a winning team on the field and that money comes back in spades!!!

All those guys in the top 10 don't have any guarantees they'll be picked there next year. That's a lot of jack to say no to.
