McNair "unlikely" to play next week..Thoughts on Buffalo next week

Of course, our insider Burds13 already told us this(btw, there is not an insider on this board more accurate than he is) but here is the confirmation:

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/b...,6378553.story

    Smart move by Billick here.

McNair needs to be 100% healthy....This will give him 3 weeks off.

Next week will be a tough game IMO...going into Buffalo. They aren't that good but could cause us some problems, as we saw with Dallas this past Monday night.

I am going to assume that Heap and Terry will also be out so that they get 2 weeks off because of the bye.

We may get Flynn back as i think he was considering playing this week.

Gaither isn't ready yet and the Bills could be in for a field day because one of their DE was the lague leader in sacks last year(or at least in the top 3)....Hopefully Wilcox will be healthy, as we will need the second TE and Gaither will need help but that could be a huge issue next week.

Since you are asking thoughts on this I will post mine. Much like Joe Willie Namath before Superbowl III I will guarantee you that if Boller starts against the Bills he will play even worse and have a worse rating then he did against the Rams (63.8) I also predict unless the defense can score TD's Boller will lay and egg producing any offense and they will lose.

I don't think we see Wilcox. He was out at Unitas Stadium yesterday for a pregame ceremony, and he was limping visibly. Bruce Cunningham was in the booth with us that night, and he remarked that he was pretty bad off.

Jeez, get over the QB rating!

It's a worthless stat!! The only purpose it serves is it gives the clowns on the ESPN pregame show something to yack about for a few minutes.

I feel more confident going into the game with Boller at QB rather than McNair. Boller can complete all the dink and dunk passes that McNair does, plus he actually gives us the ability to throw the ball down field.

Wow, I'm shocked that you predict this...

I'd hate to repeat myself...well, that's not true, but for the sake of appearances:

Johnny Unitas' career quarterback rating: 78.2.

Buffalo is hurting in their secondary, and the defense overall isn't that great, so the offense should be alright.

Our defense going against both a rookie quarterback and running back is going to have a field day.

It won't be an "easy" game, but I think, assuming no injury surprises this week, we will be fine, and 5-2 going into the bye.

This seems to be a popular view that is not only totally incorrect but not supported factually or by observation. The only way this might be true is if in fact, McNair is still injured. So if you mean that because Boller is healthy and McNair is injured he gives the ability to throw the ball down field I might agree. However, otherwise I vehemently disagree, and totally have zero confidence in Boller in any road game against any team period. His career record is atrocious on the road.

If we can force our will on the game like we have the last two weeks and don't turn the ball over we are looking at a 13-10 type game that I feel confident we can win. What scares the crap out of me is Buffalo coming out and putting up a TD early on us like Clev did. If that happens, I have little confidence in Boller playing from behind on the road.

We won't have Wilcox and I'm not convinced we'll have Heap, either.

We are very banged up across the board.

McGahee, Clayton, Rolle, Williams and Gaither are all dinged up right now. We are in desperate need of the bye week. This offensive line is young and inexperienced and it was obvious today.

You need to add 25-30 points to anyone's rating from that era to be comparable to the ratings of today or subtract 25-30 from today's era QBS. I thought most NFL fans knew that?

Yep....The Buffalo game is a big trap game and could be a huge problem.

We need to have a game plan of running it at least 40 times next week....I actually think that short passing game, like last week, may be a good extension of the running game next week and may be a good strategy.

Heck, even better: John Elway: 79.9. Troy Aikman mustered up an 81.6. Good for him.

Hell, I've considered every game since the opener as a big trap game.
