My brother arrived home for winter break today with cuts and scratches on his face. Of course I asked him what had happened, assuming he'd had a bad fall. Turns out he was at a pre-finals social event last night when a lacrosse player started bullying a quiet, weird, extremely shy kid--you know, the kind of person that has to get up a ton of nerve to come out to these things in the first place (I'm one of them). The kid just sat there and took it for awhile and the lacrosse player kept picking on him until my brother, who had been mingling nearby and heard the whole thing, went over and told him to shut up and get lost. "Go #$%& yourself" was the response, which my brother took exception to, and they wound up in a fight.

I'm not really a fan of fighting in general, but sometimes you do what you gotta do, and I'm very proud of him for sticking up for that shy kid. Judging by his face, the lacrosse player fought like a girl, too. Just a few nicks and a slight bruise.

So you're the shy kid and he's the guy that is bold enough to stick up for shy people? I take it you guys don't have a very similar personality?

As for PB&J, I don't eat them much, but they are GOOOOOOOOOOD. My uncle actually eats PB&P (peanut butter and pickle) sandwiches.

Just to add my own: Is there any meal better then a greasy sub and soggy fries from a sub shop?
How about a greasy sandwich of your choice with fries and oil and vinegar cole slaw all on the sandwich? Gotta love Primanti Brothers in Pittsburgh!

Not at all. I'm your classic neurotic/anxious/introverted type* and he's very social, relaxed, and easygoing (except apparently when he's punching people in the face). We have almost no interests in common, but we get along great and have a very strong relationship.

    My first anti-rant ever:

This morning I went to Trader Joe's (the only one in NJ that sells beer & wine) and they had a brand new kind of blueberry ale I've never had before!

(Look for the other end of this in short rants after I try it and it turns out it tastes like crap. )

I just got my grades in for this past semester and I got straight A's. First time in my life I've ever done that. Of course, this is my second stint in college, and I'm only in a community college, and the classes were all easy...but hey, an A is an A

About two months ago I found a digital camera and case inside my car. I have no idea where it came from. I've talked to the friends I perodically drive around with and nobody has claimed it. I think it is a low-end unit, but it was free and I don't have one so I won't complain. I imagine when I put in fresh batteries and look at the pictures it has taken I'll figure out whose it is.
Just say no to free agent pitchers.

Today I had my first experience with a flight cancellation. We were on the plane, sitting on the runway waiting to take off, something malfunctioned in the cockpit, and we wound up going back to the gate and disembarking shortly thereafter. It went from, "Well, this'll just be a little bit while the mechanics look at it," to "Sorry, folks, this flight is cancelled."

So I'm thinking I'm screwed. Classes start tomorrow, there are 150 people in line in front of me all trying to get re-booked, my luggage has probably been sent to Albuquerque or something, I'm not going to have a ride to campus from the airport because I'm missing my shuttle, etc. And who knows how long I'll be standing in line at the counter to find this out?

Yeah, not so much. They handed out a number to call on a flier, I called it on my cell while standing in line, and was re-booked to a flight taking off 3 hours later. Great! I get some sort of "inconvenience voucher," go order lunch, sit around reading magazines, and try not to worry about how I'm going to survive with no luggage and no ride from the airport.

New flight takes off on time, lands early. I wander hopelessly through baggage claim and suddenly see my enormous duffel bag sitting right there behind carousel 3. SCORE!

Yeah, so it took me an extra 4 hours to get to campus and I had to shell out $80 for a taxi because the airport is so far away. But I'm here and I have all my stuff. And really, 4 hours in air travel isn't so bad. Judging from the horror stories I've heard about cancellations, I had a really easy time of it.

Sorry this is so long. One of my New Year's resolutions was to stop being so negative.

And I looked at my new boarding pass and saw I'd been assigned to 7F, which is a window seat. I don't really like window seats because I feel trapped and fly aisle whenever possible, but after getting re-booked so conveniently, I wasn't about to go and whine about my seat.

Got on the plane and the center seat wound up being empty. I LOVE it when that happens.
