Life is funny...
Tomorrow night I am flying into Los Angeles for my college homecoming, which is this weekend.
www.whittier.edu/alumni/reunions2006/WW2007.htm
Now, I haven't been back to CA for anything other than work for six years. Recently, I have been in touch with my ex-girlfriend from college, whom I also haven't seen for six years. She is a lawyer living in Orange County, and she's that one ex from whom I have never been able to fully escape. Like, no matter who I'm dating or seeing, it's really hard for me to not compare them to her. So anyways, she recently offered to let me stay with her during my trip, and after careful consideration of what might happen, I agreed. (Doesn't hurt that she has a relatively central location to everything I wanna do while I'm out there.) So anyways, we're all set up.
Now...
As most of you know, brush fires are running rampant throughout Southern California and causing evacuations and closures right and left. Well her town is on alert and may have to be evacuated. This uncertainty is causing me to turn to plan B, which is probably safer for me both mentally and physically... but is also infinitely more boring.
Can you believe it? This random act of God is going to keep me from staying with a girl who's very presence has been known to turn me into a babbling idiot.
So, I ask you... is this coincidence, or is someone looking out for my dumbass?

I seriously hope God isn't so worried about non-marital sex that he would create devastating wildfires to stop one couple from doing it.

Maybe it's a ploy to get you in a motel room together?

Throughout my life (of 64+ years) I have always noticed how coincidences affect how things play out. I'm not a religious soul but feel a connect to something external. It will be interesting to see what happens. Maybe you'll still hook up, maybe she'll stay with you in the motel or maybe nothing will evolve. I believe in miracles and hope for you two to connect and resolve whatever is left. Let us know what transpires - ya know not the details but the bottom line.
Funny thing, I'm randomly listening to Coldplay warble about "How long must she wait for me?" Is that a coincidence? I think not. Go for it, dude!

Did you ever say something really corny and regretable to her, such as "I would walk through fire for you, baby"?
If 'yes', I would pack your asbestos-lined knickers.

Speaking as someone who thinks way too much, I think you're probably thinking too much. Which is only natural, but still.
You say you want resolution. OK. I believe you. But that really doesn't tell you what to do. If you don't see her, that might not help resolution. Maybe you go back to LA and don't see her, and you come home and find yourself saying, "Damn, why didn't I see her? I'm still in the same boat I was before." Or, not seeing her might help resolution. Maybe you go back to LA, you don't see her, and you come home and find yourself saying, "OK, being out there and not seeing her was no big deal after all. I'm more done with it than I realized." Or not. You just never know. On the other hand, if you do stay with her, then maybe smoke and fire, and fear and nerves, gets everybody all, um, worked up. Or maybe all the smoke just makes everybody feel, well, yuck. You just never know.
You might as well flip a coin. The coin knows as much about the future as anybody else. The only reason to be sure to not stay with her is if, deep down, your own personal BS-alarm somehow knows that you're really up to something that you somehow know you don't want to be up to. Other than that, you just never know. In general, I don't think it works very well to try to think your way through things like this. Because thinking ain't the issue.
Whatever happens, or doesn't, good luck.Last edited by rshackelford; 10-23-2007 at 01:39 PM.

Some people you will never be over. The get inside and seem to find a home. It is a tragedy when your with your future relationships and you always think back to a certain person.
You owe it to yourself to explore potential relationships with her now. She wouldnt of invited you into her house without the thought of a potential relationship. She might be wondering how you will act like and be judging weither she wants to get involved. Making a fool out of yourself or hurting your feelings is a lot easier than having years of regrets.
Years of thinking....I wonder what If?
