    We will never know...
I don't know. His stats 1998-1999 pre-Baltimore were really good. By the time he reached Baltimore his K/9 was still above 9 and his BB/9 was just a bit above 3. Maybe some of the stats gurus can point something out but I don't see anything wrong with how the O's handled him.

We've been hearing for about a month that a Roberts deal was pretty much in place. Considering MacPhail's good relationship with Hendry, the most likely scenario to me is that they've agreed on a group of names that the O's can choose from when other deals clarify their actual needs.

Another insider says Roberts won't be dealt until/unless Bedard is, while we're hearing from other sources (including the new Cubs insider) that something could happen any day with the Cubs anxious to get it done.

Sounds to me like BB's info about a Roberts deal being in limbo until Bedard gets dealt is correct, and it's the team based in the Windy City that's trying to push for a quicker resolution. I wouldn't hold my breath the next day or two, but once Bedard is traded things could happen in a hurry.
Could be. Beats me. I have no idea how any of this works, really.

Another possible way to look at it is like you said, except that maybe AM isn't completely dug-in about trading Erik first, and is watching to see how itchy Hendry gets about making it happen. If Hendry wants to get it done, and if AM is happy taking his sweet time, well, you know who's likely to lose in that scenario. Maybe that's how AM gets somebody else thrown into the deal: it's the premium Hendry pays for not-waiting. Dunno if adding another guy makes that much difference, but I could see it happening that way.

I can agree on Saunders as long as we get someone of equal value back. I don't agree about Fuld as I don't see Willits as a sure thing for CF and Fuld has "some" potential and can be depth since we don't have alot for CF. Trembley is a fan of Willits though.

Riley or Bedard? Riley was just too immature, if you have ever met him in person, you know exactly what his problem was. In the end, he got what he deserved.

Yeah, that's what I was saying. I mean nothing in his stats suggest the O's rushed him. After he got his first taste of the Big Leagues and was sent down it was all down hill for the most part.

Apparently that is the appropriate punishment for being an immature jerk. Seems a little harsh to me...

He was hurt and came back twice, and was throwing as hard as before the injuries...but the one thing that never changed was that attitude. He was the same kid with the "24ktARM" that rubbed Cal the wrong way his first time up as he was after recovering, and fighting his way back. He always thought everyone was against him and he was better than he was, well he didn't prove it when he got to Texas either did he? Sorry if there are any Riley lovers, but the kid was a total jerk.

Meh. There are a lot of total jerks in baseball that I wouldn't mind having on the O's.

If I am not mistaken, it was shortly after he was traded to Texas that Riley tore his elbow ligaments for the 2nd time, requiring a 2nd TJ surgery. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, not even a total jerk. BTW, I was never a big Riley fan and always thought he was overrated around here.

He missed almost all of 2005, then all of 2006 due to his 2nd TJ surgery. Last year he pitched 69 innings in relief for the Dodgers' AA and AAA teams and did not fare very well.

I saw Sam Fuld play in the Cape Cod League while on vacation afew years ago. He was easily the best player on the field, and was the CCBL MVP that year. He can defend, and his arm is great. If he can hit, he can play. He's your classic overachiever who makes the most of what he's got, so he's worth worth taking a flyer on.

I lurk a lot more than I post, but I have to say; I first met Matt Riley while he was pitching for Bowie. My Mom and Dad sat right behind first base for years and they both love Matt and still talk to him to this day. He signed more pictures and baseballs for my two girls than anyone else who was ever there although Rick Short comes in a close second.

He was a brash, ambitious young man who had absolute confidence in himself and his abilities and he probably was a bit too cocky for his own good off the bat but he did not in any way "get what he deserved"! No one deserves to blow out their arm twice or to lose a dream no matter what you might think of them.

I am sorry, completely off the origional subject, but this just got to me. Matt was then and still is a kind, caring and honorable young man and I am saddened that he was never, through early recklessness and later injury, able to make it in baseball.

Well, I knew Matt from his Delmarva days and although he was very immature, I never thought of him as a jerk. He was good with the fans from everything I saw and he was always pleasent to be around in the clubhouse or behind home plate. He was just a kid with a lot of talent who ended up being ruined by elbow injuries.

I watched him mature over the years and he tried very, very hard to come back from his injuries. Perhaps you had a bad experience with one time, I don't know, but trust me, when I think of jerks, Matt's name would never be on the list.

Those types seem to get dumped on here, for whatever reason.
