Jim Fassell?
You Ravens fans dealt with him a bit for a few years...what'd you think of him?
Reason I ask is because there's reports that Dan Snyder really likes him and is considering him for either HC or OC. I don't really know what to think. I thought he was in his 40's but I read somewhere today he's actually 59? Holy cow. Does his offense resemble Saunders' at all? I really don't want Campbell to have to learn another offense. Fassel was a finalist before we hired Gibbs but since then he's really fallen from grace and I didn't think he'd get another NFL head coaching job. Maybe it's ok if they just want him as OC but again I really don't like the idea of another switch.
Your thoughts?

Just a question, but WTF is going on here? Did Williams come in and pee on the rugs at Snyder's house? Kill the family dog? What? Why haven't they already had the presser announcing his hiring, and the retention of both the offensive and defensive staffs? How the hell do you define "continuity" as "changing the entire coaching staff because Saint Joe retired"?

We'll never know what Fassel did during his time in Baltimore because he was handicapped by Billick's control of the offense.

I agree Mark, this is getting old, tiresome, and extremely worrisome. I have a really bad feeling that Snyder and Cerrato (who is the worst personnell guy - if you can call him that - in the NFL) are going to screw the pooch here.
To answer the Q about Fassel, he would be an awful choice. His offense is nothing like Saunders'. To change the offense again would be idiotic, given that everyone knew it would probably take a year or two for JC to get up to speed on it - and he has basically started one year's worth of games.
Until an announcement is made, I am reserving judgment. But if Snyder remakes the entire coaching staff, he is an idiot, and the Redskins will have taken a big step backwards - AGAIN! Man if they would just hire a good GM and let them go to work w/ that checkbook, it would be unbelievable. But Vinny just wont go away!
*unless they get Cowher. That I would be on board with. But that is not happening.

You have to think at this point that there's a good chance Snyder just doesn't like Williams at all. I thought maybe he just didn't want to be incredibly clear from the start that Williams would be handed the job and that's why he was very vague and didn't even reference Williams specifically but after four interviews I thought it would be time to name him. I'm just amazed now at how this has dragged on, especially since Joe Gibbs has apparently stayed there the whole time advising Snyder so it's beyond me why Williams hasn't been named yet.
Snyder does operate in complete secrecy though, so maybe he knows Williams is the HC but just wants to fix things on the offensive side. It's so funny reading Jason La Canfora's Skins blog because the Redskins don't tell him anything and he has to get all of his info from calling mentioned candidates nonstop and trying to find out if they've interviewed. Apparently Snyder and Cerrato have really bashed Saunders though and are concerned he's not the right one to develop Jason Campbell. What I really hope is that Fassel is interviewing for QB coach or some other form of offensive consultant to just develop Campbell. I've always liked the young guy we have at QB coach now but if they want to go with someone much more experienced I'd have no problem there. I just really don't like the idea of switching playbooks again. Anyone can learn Saunders' offense and thrive in it like Collins did. Campbell just needs to put in the time and will be able to figure out the timing, touch passes that Collins excelled at.
So hopefully, within the next few days maybe it'll be announced:
HC: Williams
OC: Saunders
QB Coach: Fassel
DC: Blache
That's continuity. That's what we need.
Just hire a GM already and get that bum Cerrato out of here.

This is beyond stupidity IMO.
Just give Williams the job because he deffinitley deserves it!!!
Fassell is washed up and couldnt even make it with the Ravens.
Please be smarter Snyder.

The Ravens had some good tools on Offense in 06. He couldnt get it done.
I don't see him getting it done in DC. Thats all.

I think the situation was totally different here in Baltimore. He never was given any opportunity to do much, IMO. Yeah we took off when Billick took over, but remember it was McNair's first season here and he got a late start at learning the playbook.
I don't think he is the best option available for the Skins, but I wouldn't dismiss him for the fact he didn't have a good tenure in Baltimore.
He was OC and Head Coach at the same time the Giants went to the Superbowl, so I feel he has an idea of how to get it done. I don't think he has been away enough to say the game passed him by either, but I think the Skins have enough of a high profile job to get a better canidate.

How Vinny Cerrato has managed to keep his job, much less get continually promoted, is beyond me. I know him and Snyder are good friends but you'd think at some point Snyder would realize that Cerrato has no idea how to build a football team the right way. Hire a real GM and not a businessman!

If it's Fassell, then I'm done with the Redskins. I think we have enough hand soap here for that.
I simply cannot root for two ineptly run teams forever.
