The only problem with this is that it is quite possible, maybe even likely, that the majority of "fans" are behind Angelos on this. The OH is a very vocal minority, I think. But, I doubt Angelos is listening.
All that being said, I'm not ready to believe this yet. Lets see what comes out tomorrow...

I don't know about this.
Obviously there are egos involved, but Bavasi has made it crystal clear that he would like to make one more deal involving a top of the rotation starter.
So, if you're Bavasi, do you try to :
A. Swing a deal for Santana.
B. Slightly cave for Bedard.
C. Go into spring training with Felix Rodriguez at the top of your rotation and Horatio at the bottom?

My guy thinks its a lame excuse for Angelos to be upset about leaks. Bavasi was just doing what he felt was right by calling Jones and having him pulled. Jones should of kept his mouth shut..yes. But if people believe Angelos nixed the deal because of leaks. thats crazy.

I don't get the logic here though. Leaks happen all the time. So this one leaked and somehow Angelos is going to want more players because it leaked? Doesn't make any sense at all.
I can see Bavasi interchanging parts but not increasing the base of the offer. Especially not for something like a leaked quote.

just to weigh in here, ive been gone all night
I dont know if PA did or did not nix the deal, but I would be completely and utterly shocked if this was the truth. My source is one that is close to PA and I was told that when AM took over, he had complete control. There has to be more to this than PA just saying no deal. I honestly do not believe it.
I know everyone was told that AM had total control, but not like I was. I cant really say more than that

Who knows... I do know that BB is in a tough spot if he doesn't trade for Bedard.
You know Santana will be at least as expensive as Bedard if not moreso.
I'll bet Bavasi knows that, too.
Again, we'll see.
All I know is that I just want to hear Joe Angel make jokes about how many truffles Fred Manfra ate at the team hotel...

There's only one thing that can Angelos can do to mend this situation, and he's not going to like it. Namely, he has to open up the Bedard sweepstakes to Boston, New York, and Toronto.
A package of Hughes, Cabrera, and Horne/Jackson would trump the Mariners package, IMO.
Of course, this is probably moot. If Angelos won't deal Bedard to the Mariners, I doubt he'd deal him to the Skankees.

Another quick point. Why are we getting so crazy about this? All we have to go on so far tonight is speculation from a couple of insiders and their 'sources' that PGA has nixed this deal. We have media reports from the Sun and Rosenthal that also "hint" at this, but it's nothing but pure conjecture at this point as well.
No offense meant to the insiders, but they've been correct less than 1% of the time this off-season. Heck, just last night this was a done deal! This is not meant to be a knock against the insiders, but it's obvious at this stage of the game that NO ONE really knows the true story. Forgive me for not jumping off the ledge quite yet, but I'm going to keep an open mind for now and wait until I hear concrete proof of what's going on.
