Thread: Report: Angelos nixed Deal

Amazing to grow up rooting for the organization that all others wanted to be. Now we're quite possibly the most embarrassing franchise in all of sports. Outside of maybe the Redskins. Good Lord, how is it possible that the two worst owners in sports are exactly 45 miles apart?
Anyone want to guess the attendance figures for the 1st O's v Royals Tuesday night tilt? Will there be 1,000 fanatics in the stands?

Interesting
I haven't heard the Mariners or Bavasi bad mouthing Angelos or the Orioles at this point. So this may prove to be a small glimmer of hope! Very Small!

It was 100% agreed upon. There were flights booked, rids waiting and physicals scheduled. PGA must have gotten this morning and blew a gasket.
You tell me what the response would have been if I posted the deal was done pending PGAs approval? I would have gotten slammed so hard about AM being 100% in charge it wouldn't be crazy.

Of course GMs lie to the media.
Do you think Bavasi was telling the truth when he said that Jones was pulled from his winter league team in the middle of the playoffs because he'd "achieved his goals" or whatever BS he threw out there?
I trust you're not that naive. Because that was a lie right there.

That said, if this all turns out to be true, I will happily join some sort of walk-out on opening day. Can you imagine the press THAT would garner? The last one was on ESPN, and it was a meaningless game 2/3 the way through the season. This would make some waves.

Peace, as always thanks for the information. I actually had hope we were headed in a clear and intelligent direction. I thought our farm system could move with this series of proposed trades (Bedard, BRob,Payton, Millar) from middle of the pack (16) to top ten. I was looking forward to a young and exciting team. I had hope we had a GM who could build on the Tejada trade. It now appears that nothing has changed. With this owner, we are doomed to be a directionless laughingstock. I hope I'm wrong. I hope these trades still goes down somehow, but it certainly looks like the sos.

If true, this is literally the worst possible way this could have gone down. The trade was put together and then the Orioles yanked the rug out from under it. It means our word is worth nothing and nobody will ever want to deal with us again because they'll think they're just wasting their time. And they are. If Angelos changes his mind and MacPhail goes back to the Mariners, I wouldn't blame Bavasi one bit if he told us to go pound sand. Wasted time and credibility when he could have been doing something else.
Pathetic. This team is so myopic. They think they can just mosey along at their own little pace, oblivious to the 29 other teams out there. And now Angelos may have taken away MacPhail's credibility as well. Does he have ANY CLUE?

Angelos can give a verbal Ok. It also takes 10 minutes to sign paperwork. Most GM's get envolved in the teams payroll goes up in a deal, but ours is going down. I believe McPhail had trades arranged for both Bedard and Roberts; PA though otherwise. "I allowmy baseball men to make baseball decisions"..... before I disagree with the packages and pull the deals! PA didn't think that Derek Lee deserved $8 Million a year, but somehow Konerko deserved double. Do you notice how we always almost sign a guy. We were players for Carlos Lee, Derek Lee, Paul Konerko, Vladamir Guerrero, Pudge, etc. Goodcallon giving Javy Lopez $8 million per year instead a gaudy $10 million per year to Pudge. PA has meddled and he is the reason why our team stinks. Frank Wren was such a bad baseball man that he left us and went to Atlanta, Pat Gillick went to the Phillies, Steve Phillips was with the Mets, McPhail with Chicago, etc. We have had good guys who were all handcuffed (and not in a good way).

Is there any possibility that it was nixed as it was so the O's could sweeten the deal with a sign and trade - as was speculated in another thread tonight?
