    I'm not sure what the point is actually. You get more personal messages and can hook up more directly? How is it different from PM's - or are PM's now defunct? I feel sort of "less manly" axing folks to "be my friend". When social groups are established will it take on more meaning?

    I'm not sure how the 'friends' feature will shake out to be honest. As MChance said elsewhere - we're all basically friends already. It was bolted in with the other stuff though.

    If anything it gives you a quick entry point to your friends' profile.

    It'll be a supplemental to rep. You can check out someone's profile, and see if they're really "liked."
