You can say that again. I'm certainly no expert, but why was he trying to snag that cross? With the rain coming down so hard, wouldn't it have made more sense to punch it away? Oh well, 20/20 hindsight and all that...and it was fun watching the Turk fans go nuts.
But then a stupid decision by Turkey's goaltender (Demrel?), he gets the red card and so he's gone for their next match, right?

Yes, I believe Demirel is out for the quarterfinal. They have Croatia next, right? Honestly I doubt it matters, but that will certainly hurt.
As for your question about Cech, I am sure he is asking the same thing today. But in fairness that is a catch he has made 1,000 times. There was hardly any traffic. It should have been a non-event. Had he caught it, of course. I think the real sin is the failure to execute, and not the idea.

Stupid yes but so was the red card. Only on a soccer field will you see a 6'5 200+ pound man fall in agony holding his head after getting shoved in the chest.
But I don't think it will be a big loss since the man who will be filling in was Turkeys number one choice for many years with over 110 caps.

Appears Big Phil will be getting an early start to his work at Chelsea.

Or did I speak too soon? 2-1 now and POR is getting the better run of play.
Ronaldo is what he is. Diving, lazy, but dangerous as heck. The Germans are beating him up pretty good, and are overall the much more physical side. But we are one breakaway away from being even again.

Great finish. Frankly I am not pulling for either team to go far so I didn't really care, though it was fun to watch.
Anyone else think the pensioners might call for the hiring of a special coach to draw up set piece defenses? I would be very happy to see Big Phil fall flat on his face.

Wow. 118 minutes of great play, and then one bad decision by the Turkish goalie.
What a game to watch!
EDIT: I posted 2 minutes too soon. The Turks and their last minute shots are amazing.Last edited by GeorgiaBird; 06-20-2008 at 05:18 PM.

What an awesome finish. I'm not a big soccer fan, but that impressed me.

Yeah, Euro and the WC are pretty much all I watch in soccer, although I haven't caught much of the Euro this year. I always enjoy reading soccer threads on here, though, because sometimes they're so filled with soccer jargon that I wonder if it's in English. I have no idea what people are saying sometimes.
