Jason Segel is in Can't Hardly Wait as one of the dudes who says that Preston wears "T Shirts....sometimes" and is screwing around with a watermelon.
Robert Duvall played the quiet role of Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird.
The Harry Potter films are great for these.
David Thewlis (Remus Lupin) was Knox Harrington in The Big Lebowski (he's a classic character actor so I guess you could say this about a lot of his roles).
Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick) was, of course, the Leprechaun from the Leprechaun series. And some will remember his title role in Willow (I do not). But he also played Wicket in Return of the Jedi, his first role.
Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) is best remembered for the Patriot, probably, but he has also been in, I think, every single movie made since 1991.And he was in The West Wing.
Not sure if it was mentioned (9 pages = too long to read at work)
But Chris Rock was also in 'I'm Gonna Get You Sucka', a scene where he goes into a fast food joint.
'How much for ONE rib?'
'Pour it in my hand for a dime!'
I always think it's funny that in the first American Pie movie, the garage band watching Jim's webcam mishap is Blink-182.
Character actor Charles Napier is the ultimate "that guy." Some of his greatest hits:
- Every single Jonathan Demme movie — most memorably perhaps as the prison guard whose face is surgically removed by Hannibal Lector in Silence of the Lambs
- Many of Russ Meyer's T&A films, including the Roger Ebert-scripted Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, as dashing playboy Baxter Wolfe
- Lead singer of C&W band The Good Old Boys in The Blues Brothers
- Voiced the growls for the Incredible Hulk in the Bill Bixby-Lou Ferigno TV series
One of the last of the truly great character actors.
Since watching all of the 24 seasons while on Apendectomy recovery in 2007, I now see many of the actors from 24 in various different movies.
A couple obvious ones are Kevin Bacon getting killed in the original Friday the 13th, and Captain Jack Sparrow himself getting slain in the original Nightmare on Elm Street.
My father-in-law watching an old western a few weeks ago, while the rest of us were playing cards, and I heard a voice that was Harrison Ford. I thought, no way was Han Solo in a wastern...sure enough, it was him. Rep to whomever gets the name of the movie without cheating or looking it up!
I'm sure there are loads of others that will come to me, but for now, I just want to end by saying JD and Drek...whether you like Jerry Seinfeld the man or not, not watching "Seinfeld" the show is depriving you of so many, many laughs that words cannot explain. My entire vocabulary comes from two things...Seinfeld, and Christmas Vacation, which in fitting with this thread, has Elaine (Julia Louis Dreyfuss) as the *****y nexy door neighbor to the Griswolds.
In the Seinfeld where Jerry is dating the artist who gives George some "front row" (actually ends up being second row, to Costanza's dismay: he had planned on putting his feet on the dugout and everything!), the artist is the lead chick from The 40 Year Old Virgin.
Anyone remember why George and Elaine got kicked out of that game?
Also, check out an extremely young Casey Afleck making fun of Jason Lee in the beginning of Chasing Amy for being a "tracer." It's good stuff, considering he's talking smack to his brother in that scene, too.
Just caught a young Keifer Sutherland in Stand By Me and Sean Astin/Josh Brolin in The Goonies.
Pretty sure these films haven't been mentioned yet...
Thankfully, my DVD copy of The Goonies included the mystifying "Goonies 'R' Good Enough" music video featuring Cindi Lauper and MTV in all their 80's greatness.
I'm not sure those count, since they were quite well known for being in those movies, you know?
Speaking of her, I was somewhat surprised when I saw her playing Harper Lee in Capote, but that was probably only because I watched that this year. Capote came out the same year as The 40 Year Old Virgin, which I did see when it came out, so I probably would not have been surprised if I had watched Capote then. 2005 was apparently her year.
