Skip Bayless: "I'm Not That Impressed With Phelps"
Look, Skippy, we know you're not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but to say (as you just did on First Take) that Phelps isn't the fastest swimmer because he didn't compete in the 50m freestyle, and didn't anchor the relays, is perhaps your dumbest moment ever.
When what's her face pointed out that Phelps holds umpteen world records now, that his leg in one of the relays was the one where the USA pulled ahead, and that swimming isn't just about speed but also endurance, you said something about "Well I'd rather see Lance Armstrong then."
Huh?
Why, oh why, oh why is this clown given airtime?

He's allowed air-time because he's willing to say stupid things like that. It's what he's supposed to do.

Bayliss's act is to say the most outrageous thing possible. It's just schtick, I can't imagine that he even believes the things he says.

Phelps' response should be "who is Skip Bayless?"

Yeah, I guess you guys are right -- but it seems like all the other people that pull that "I'm so outrageous so I'll get people to watch how outrageous I am so I'll get more ratings" don't sound like such blockheads.
Tough way to make a living, really -- "I'll play the village idiot if you pay me enough."
Although now that I'm looking for a job, that sounds kind of tempting.....

It's the next logical step after PTI. Wilbon and Kornheiser sometimes disagree with each other to present different sides of an issue (even if they didn't subscribe to a particular idea). Bayless just disagrees with whatever the prevailing notion is at the time....in a silly, obnoxious, cartoonish way.
