John Sickels is grading the top 20 players in each organization, team-by-team. He's done 5 teams so far and the next two are the Diamondbacks and then the Orioles. The grades so far:

KCR -- 2 A-, 6 B, 2 B-, 9 C+, 1 C ---- Top 10: 3.07 Top 20: 2.68

MIN -- 2 B+, 2 B, 5 B-, 11 C+ ------- Top 10: 2.83 Top 20: 2.58

ATL -- 1 A-, 3 B+, 3 B, 6 B-, 7 C+ --- Top 10: 3.07 Top 20: 2.75

PHI -- 3 B, 5 B-, 9 C+, 3 C ----------- Top 10: 2.70 Top 20: 2.47

TAM -- 1 A, 3 B+, 1 B, 4 B-, 11 C+ --- Top 10: 3.00 Top 20: 2.67

Interesting to see that he's not that high on Tampa (not that they're doing badly).

FYI, the 4 players who have earned A or A- are David Price (A), Jason Heyward (A-), Mike Moustakas (A-) and Eric Hosmer (A-).

Per Sickels:

I am now working on the Baltimore Orioles for the book. Here is a thread to discuss this system.

Interesting stuff at the top...Wieters and Tillman of course, plus some intriguing mid-level guys, though they could use more depth.

Sickels threw out this tickler:

current grades Wieters A, Tillman B+, Arrieta B+, haven’t done Matusz yet.

If Matusz earns a B+ our top 4 will be as strong as any team he has graded so far (Tampa has an A and 3 B+, and Atlanta has an A- and 3 B+).

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Tillman moves up to an A- or Arrieta down to a B. I don't think they stay on the same plane. Or should.

Interesting.

Britton at 7 definitely stands out and is very encouraging.

Also likes Hernandez, except for the walks. I fully expect Hernandez and Bergesen to get looks in ST, and hopefully are up by mid season.

11) Kam "The Almighty" Mickolio, RHP, Grade C+: I am Mickolio. I need control for my fastball. Waahhooo…arrruuddicacacaa

Thats hilarious

    • I tend to disagree with is perspective being as relevant now. Traditionally attendance was influenced/dependent upon the opponent draw. Our fans wanting to see “the better teams” and the bigger fan bases visiting the Yard. However, I believe that times have changed. Because we have so many homegrown stars and such an excellent team, the O’s are much more of a draw themselves since the days of Cal Ripken. The Oakland series will be well attended. Early this week I purchased tix to next Sunday’s game and there were very few sections that had 4 tix available. And this is for the lowly Athletics.
    • The Orioles are the one team that has an investment in him, both monetary and emotional.   They are the one team incentivized to have him pitch in the majors this year. What ML team, rebuilding or not, wants to take a pitcher who’s given up 14 hits, including 5 home runs, in 7 AAA innings, stick him in their bullpen, so he can keep accumulating FA service time? What’s their incentive?   That he’s going to magically turn into the 2021 John Means and they can flip him at the deadline?    While it’s possible that he regains form, I don’t think there’s a ML team willing to take the lumps on a longshot.
    • Could just give Roch a lifetime contract.
    • If you had a team full of "OK" 3 wins guys you'd do really well. The O's had two position players last season that had 3 fWAR.
    • Stephenson - Injured Brasier - 4.50 ERA Robertson and Ottavino are killing though. Fuji - 9 ERA in AAA Uwasawa - 6.30 in AAA These are the names from the offseason that I remember.
    • If we're going to wait a bit on any Henderson, Holliday, or Rutschman extension... I'd like to see Rubenstein make extending Kevin Brown a priority. If for no other reason than to show that this organization will be run differently than the previous regime, and good employees will be rewarded.
    • Rangers will extend rehab for RHP Jonathan Hernandez Dallas News https://www.dallasnews.com › Sports › Rangers Jul 1, 2022 — Up to three 10-day extensions are permitted for shoulder and elbow surgery patients, but must be approved by MLB and the Players Association.
