Yeah, I picked it because I wanted a new pullup routine, and it was in the 'plus' package so not even in the p90x 2 regular schedule.
It's basically chest and back, but all new. There are some new and interesting pullup moves, and floor work is done with the balls to mix things up.
I was looking at P90X2 on QVC the other day, it looks prettty awesome. It looks like you would at least need dumbbells in order to truly be able to do everything in P90X2 however. I only have bands. I am currently in week 7 of a P90X/Insanity combo.
But aren't the leg workouts pretty heavily dumbbell based (squatting, calf raises, and stepping up on platforms)? And a lot of the resistance training with the stability balls (curls and chest press specifically) looks like you could not use bands. In the original P90X really the only thing you couldn't do without the bands were a few of the leg exercises. From what I've seen in P90X2 it looks like you would be missing out on a lot of exercises if you did not have dumbbells. That is not neccessarily a bad thing, these exercises look like they would yield amazing benefits.
I definitely want to get the Bowflex adjustable dumbbells and then get P90X2. Although that is quite expensive LOL. I will probably get the dumbells first, do another Insanity/P90X run through but with dumbells, then I'll probably try and move on to P90X2.
I'll tell you later today...today is my first "Base and Back" workout.
They show you modifiers for most moves, but I don't know how effective they are. I'm not a fan of bands, so I've never tried.
I got some other adjustable dumbbells that were a bit cheaper than the Bowflex ones. You can only adjust in 10lb increments, but that's been fine for me so far.
Did Day 1 of P90X yesterday. Can barely move today. I was in woefully bad shape. We shall see how the next 90 days go.
Hang in there. I recommend extra off-days at the beginning if you think you need it (like make the first week take 2 weeks or something) instead of skipping workouts. You don't want to go so overboard that you hurt yourself. Also, use the modified moves as you need to to ease into it some.
Thanks for the encouragement. I definitely may take your advice about alternating days at the start. We'll see how I feel tomorrow. Tonight's workout is plyometrics, and while I'm sure it will be difficult, I think it probably will be one the easier ones for my body type and skill set.
I feel like I know my limits pretty well, though I'm sure everyone thinks that. Tony Horton tells me to take breaks if I need to, and I take advantage of that.My wife was laughing because the guys on the video were setting goals for their pushups like 25 or 30. My goal was 10. For the second half I dropped it to 6. But I made it through.

What sort of equipment do you need to have ahead of time to do P90X? I'm 30 years old. It's time to make some permanent life adjustments.
Right there with you, Pedro. Gotta get into better shape.
You'll need a pull-up bar, which I bought at Wal-mart for $20, and either dumbbells or bands. I'm using bands - I'd prefer the dumbbells but they were a little pricey and I don't really have a convenient spot to keep them.
I wasn't able to make it all they way through the plyometrics. Had to stop with about 10 minutes before the cool down. Just literally had nothing left, and I do want to be able to get out of bed tomorrow.
So my goal at this point is to get through these first 3 weeks and hopefully be able to complete each video by that point.![]()
Had no chance in my first attempt at Yoga. Part of that is that I am about the least flexible person on earth, and part of it is that everything is so sore and so tight from the first few days. I didn't want to push things and end up hurting myself. I'll see if I can find some blocks and try again next week.
And Pedro, if you're still thinking about it, I reiterate my preference for weights vs. bands. The shoulders and arms workout yesterday used them a lot, and I really didn't like the bands. Maybe I just have crappy bands, one of them actually broke.
Well I've made it through 2 weeks so far, as long as I get my Kenpo X in tomorrow. I really like it, and I've honestly already noticed an increase in my strength and flexibility.
I've missed 2 days - legs and back in week 1, yoga in week 2. But both days I literally did not have any free time to do it. Then tonight I went to do legs and back for the first time and found out my disk doesn't work. I found a video on-line that described the exercises, but I missed Tony Horton's witty banter.
Ab ripper X - I hate it....but I love it.
