We're using a pretty big-tent definition of punk when even I can get behind a few of the bands.
Wait, has no one mentioned F'ed Up? Or are they too...soft/mainstream/easily identified these days?
I was going to mirror Ceremony's progression with that of F'ed Up - going from hyped underground-ish hardcore bands with cult followings to eventually writing punk rock operas. Except that I think F'ed Up has always been a little more genuine with what they've done. They get a lot of flak from most people I know, but I really liked (and still do like) Hidden World and I try to keep an open mind about their newer stuff.
Whenever I find out that someone digs the progression from hardcore punk to experimental/catchy/concept rock I try to turn him onto the Japanese band Paintbox, but I usually fail. Paintbox featured Chelsea (RIP) from a legendary Japanese band called Death Side and started out as a straight forward "Burning Spirits" style hardcore band but evolved into this insane, progressive band that combined traditional Japanese hardcore with classic rock, psych, japanese folk music and even some J-pop here and there. Chelsea was from a different planet. Earth Ball Sports Tournament and Trip, Trance and Travelling (sic) are two of the most unique records I've ever heard.
Got to see F'd Up twice in the same day during Halifax Pop Explosion in October. The first show they played with Chixdiggit, which was kind of weird but also really awesome.
Listening to the new Ceremony now. It's not bad but I do miss the really angry feel of Rohnert Park, as weak as some parts of that album were.
Question for anyone: Is it poor form to post info on here about shows my band is playing? I think there might be some people on here who would be interested, but I don't see anybody else posting any sort of show info, so maybe it's just not done here. I don't want to be a spammer!
What band are you in?
I wouldn't say it'd be cool to post here every single time your band plays a show, especially if you play a whole lot, but occasionally wouldn't hurt.
Nice! Were you selling burgers at Insub Fest?
I appreciated your services greatly that weekend. Seriously. I must have bought like ten Cokes by the end of Sunday.
I've never seen you guys actually play though. Listened to a few songs on your Bandcamp and liked them a lot. When I head home for the summer I'll be sure to keep an eye out for when you play.
I am sure these bands have been listed but I like;
Slap Shot,
Madball,
Judge,
Gorilla Biscuits,
Sick of it all,
Man or Astroman,
Blood for Blood,
7 seconds,
H20,
Agnostic Front,
In my eyes,
Hatebreed (early Hartford HC days)
No for an Answer
Cast aside
Stout! and a whole lot more.
So the new Menzingers comes out tomorrow. Anyone else excited?
