I was somewhat underwhelmed, too. I knew perfectly well Shawn was going to try and propose when he started trying to get Gus to read his mind at the beginning, and that made it easy to figure out that his uncharacteristic flipping out over having the DS stolen meant he stashed the ring in there (let's be fair, Shawn is childish, but that was beyond his normal levels, he was seriously upset). But I'm glad they led it down the lane they did, with the realization that Jules isn't there at all, but Shawn would actually be ready to commit like that. It's a natural character progression that I found refreshing. It was just the rest of the episode (sans the three bachelors escapades) was lackluster.

Easily the worst cliffhanger ever...

I also want to add that this was probably the best finale since Season 3's "An Evening With Mr. Yang", which while it wasn't my favorite episode, was definitely their best work IMO. This, though...wow.

Right on. I actually had an "oh CRAP" moment when the dude said "50 thousand was a lot back then." But I thought for sure they were going to go to black with just the cliffhanger of "what's going to happen." When the gun was actually fired and he dropped as the camera pulled out I was almost incredulous. I think he'll be fine (I have a feeling he knew something was rotten and was wearing a vest, not much actually gets by him when you get right down to it), but its still a bold move.

With the talk of retiring you wonder if the father's character isn't reupped for the next season yet...
I thought the whole episode was kind of blah for a finale, but I dunno...I kind of liked the ending a lot.

It's a lot better when you factor in all the Chinatown references. Plus, it got a huge bump for Gus' "my people can vote now" crack to Henry.
There's been almost zero talk, from what I've seen, about whether Corbin Bernsen is reupped or not. Which lends me to believe he'll be back.

Just watched the season finale last night on my DVR. I hadn't picked up on the Chinatown theme except for the last few lines. Was there more?

The episode title was SantaBarbaraTown. The noir feel of the episode. Some of the character names (like Ida). The "sister/daughter" thing. There are a few others.

I heard rumors that next season will have a return to Dual Spires, which could go either way to me, and possibly a Clue episode, which could rock. This season was maddeningly up and down. This Episode Sucks (the vampire one) was one of the best, and there were a few other highlights, but it was mostly even keel. However, a "not great" season of Psych is still better than some of the other stuff I see out there.
What's your guys favorite episodes, anyway. My tops in no real order:
Tuesday the 17th
Scary Sherry: Bianca's Toast
Lights, Camera, Homocido!
Disco Didn't Die, It Was Murdered!
An Evening With Mr. Yang
Shawn 2.0
Dual Spires
This Episode Sucks
