I also had mixed feelings when it first came out. I'd always been more of a Sufjan appreciator than a fan before The Age of Adz, but once I broke through the initial stage of bewilderment at its complexity and general weirdness I grew to love it. The EP is also quite good.

I know very few of the albums mentioned in this thread... there are posters in this thread who are nostalgic for the '90's. I thought the '90's was new music. For the fun of it, here's a few of my favorite albums of the 21st century thus far (in no particular order):
Deer Tick War Elephant
Justin Townes Earle The Good Life
Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears Tell 'em What Your Name Is! (I think Scandalous is better, but I'm sticking with the original time frame of this thread to some extent.)
Alexi Murdoch Time Without Consequences
Carolina Chocolate Drops Genuine Negro Jig (Probably shouldn't be on this list because I think it came out after this thread was started for 2000-09.)
Old Crow Medicine Show O.C.M.S.
Ray Lamontagne Trouble
Gomez In Our Gun
Gorillaz Demon Days
John Butler Trio Three
Michael Franti Songs From the Front Porch
Neko Case Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
Umphrey's McGee Anchor Drops
The Waifs Up All NightLast edited by TakebackOPACY; 03-02-2012 at 12:05 AM.

I had trouble deciding between that or Separation Sunday.
Idk, i do think there is a legitimate case for AKM being their best. At least five of the songs on there (The Swish, Most People Are DJs, Positive Jam, Killer Parties, and Hostile Mass come to mind right away) i would place in their 20 best songs or so. I guess i kinda dig rawness and edginess of their early stuff.
