4:50 in Perry Hall, to the west I see clouds breaking and the sun starting to peak through!!!

However, have been shoveling on and off for 4 and a half hours...
I figure i'll get to my car (that's parked on the street) by midnight.
Currently enjoying left over pizza, some Wild Turkey & Coke, the D.R./Mexico game & Poker Stars.

We just completed the sixth round of shoveling. Did our sidewalks again and Betty's sidewalks across the street again. Think we're done for the day. Snow will (allegedly) end by 7 p.m. tonight. ACFD showed up quickly last night when our next-door neighbors called in downed lines...and got them back up equally quickly.
Don't expect to see a plow on our street any time soon, though...despite having seen five of 'em lined up and ready to go four blocks away as I came home Friday. I'm sure they're quite busy with the major roads.

El now calls the side yard "Puppy Stalingrad". Here it is after the second shoveling.

Kramer with her favorite toy in Puppy Stalingrad. I recovered it during the second shoveling. Her second favorite toy is likely lost to the ages...it drifted right when I was throwing it to her this afternoon and it hasn't been seen since. And believe me, we looked!

When did they stop making gas furnances with a backup manual pilot and burner control? Even with no juice to spin the fan, the thing should be able to at least make heat in the basement, which will naturally rise to points above. I s'pose with a gas oven, you could make bread and have the oven keeping the kitchen comfy... or will the oven not work without electricity either?

Snow has stopped in Silver Spring. This is going to take a really long time to clear. MD-410 looks passable but since I can't get out of the parking lot, it doesn't really matter.

Yea from what I understand most main arteries are good. It's the side roads and parking lots, however, that will take some time to get clear. Hopefully everything is passable by Monday.

Conditions in southern Delaware are really really bad. They are still getting slammed and conditions are so bad that DelDOT has pulled the plows from the roads until the storm is over. Most of Sussex County is without power and of course the temperature is supposed to drop into the single digits.
Up in Newark, cops have started pulling over the people that are driving without a cause and they arent giving out tickets, they are actually getting charged for being out during the storm.

Good for the police. If you don't have a really good reason to be out on the road, you are endangering yourself and others for when they have to come rescue you after you get stuck. CBS had a reporter on a Skype feed driving on the Beltway at midnight last night and it was totally irresponsible and stupid.
My parents (in Rockville) lost power for only 4 hours but have no cable or phone. I'm feeling lucky at the moment.

Arrrggghhh! I put two shovels in the hallway of my building with a sign letting people know that they may borrow them. One has been broken in half and the other is gone and not anywhere in the parking lot outside. People suck.

I have a snow blower so i have been out all day getting through as many neighbors driveways as I can. My next door neighbor came out and yelled at me to stop b/c "I can do this myself!". Sometimes I don't understand people. I finished their driveway and smiled and waved at them.
I got though 8 driveways including my own. I'm whooped. I don't have a dual stage blower, just a single stage so while it makes life easier, it still takes a lot of work to get through this amount of snow.
