Where are you at in PA? In Harrisburg, it's not too bad. The streets are in pretty good condition (as long as you don't take side alleys or backroads) and the sidewalks are generally walkable.

A lot of people are slamming the road crews...Wondering why stuff isn't done.

I don't think people understand the amount of snow out there and just how many roads need to get done.

University of Maryland closed again tomorrow. It's been closed since Friday. If this forecast holds up, I probably won't have to go in Wednesday, either.

I haven't had snow days since HS, so getting them in grad school is kind of awesome.

Yeah, I wouldn't blame the state for not dealing too well with the biggest (or just about) snow storm in recorded history.

The thing is, I think they are dealing with it well...Now, last weekend they did a terrible job...They were caught off guard but 7 hours later, they still hadn't touched the MAJOR highways...That was bad.

But I think they are doing all they can right now...Its just so much and its going to get worse before it gets better.

I really think they should just say, stay home until Thursday or Friday...We have to be able to clear the roads and need the emergency vehicles to be able to get around right now.

Southern York county... just north of the MD line in South Hanover.

In my development, there are no sidewalks. They're buried under 5 feet of snow.

I think you are right about all of this, but for people to stay off of the roads, the state and local governments would have to get involved because God knows people cannot control themselves. When we had that really bad storm in the late 90's, I was living in York County, PA and the government declared a state of emergency allowing 4WD and snowmobiles only on the streets.

My girlfriend works in primary care and so I have to trek out across some really bad roads in my Chrysler Sebring to get her there as no 4WD transit has been offered through her work. At the same time, it is insane to me that some stocking clerk at Best Buy making 7.50 is getting pressured by his boss to be at work on Monday morning because somebody feels like buying a plasma when buried beneath a blizzard.

Shut down non-essential businesses to clear the roads for the plows and for essential travel (there were checkpoints in my town when I was a kid).

Yea, this is probably better than what I said...Obviously some must get into work, like nurses but the large majority of us don't NEED to be on the roads...We want to get out of the house but the need isn't there...Now, today and tomorrow is one thing but if we get another big storm, Wednesday and maybe thursday should be stay home time...as much as many don't want to be "trapped" inside.

Quick question: my car is semi-dug out but is backed into the space, so the exhaust pipe is in a snowbank. If I just want to run the engine for a bit to make sure it's OK in the cold, will rolling down the windows keep me from getting gassed with CO?

Edit: There is enough space cleared in front of the car that I can move it forward a bit.

I would love for someone to tell me that I wasn't allowed to go anywhere in this crap. Be grateful, non-emergency people, cause it sucks. Cabin fever ain't so bad.

Here's how the seasonal rankings look now:

    1. 1995-96: 62.5 inches

    2. 2009-10: 60.4 inches*

    3. 2002-03: 58.1 inches

    4. 1963-64: 51.8 inches

    5. 1898-99: 51.1 inches

60.4 plus 15 or so = 75 inches, easily demolishing the 15 year old record.

Oh and they are calling for snow on Sunday! lol

BTW, we better hope that all of this snow doesn't melt at once...Flooding will be a problem then.

Seriously, enjoy it while it lasts.

And if you live in an area where you can do so, go for a walk (yes!) when you get cabin fever. People are so obsessed with their cars.
