Well my first review of the year starts with a book that I picked up on one of my trips up north to Virginia for an autograph show. While I was getting former Oriole Hank Foiles signature, they were selling copies of Doug Williams book.
Mr Williams, like me, is a collector of baseball memoribilia and the book is about how his collecting has put him in contact with former baseball players and friendships that have ensued. Some of the players include former Orioles Hank Foiles and "Deacon" Ray Miller and players from the Maryland-Virginia area like Ted Sepkowski.
I recommend the book if you are looking for a quick read and one that has a lite topic. The book is still available from Amazon.com:

I know it's late coming, but I send a big "Thank you" to Gulfbird44 for the great review of "So Many Summer Fields." I have another new book due out in a few weeks on the life of ex-Oriole catcher, Hank Foiles. Mr. Foiles also spent a few seasons with Pittsburgh, (where he was a NL All-Star) thus the title of his autobiography.."A Pirate's Journey." Included are some good stories about his time in Baltimore and his frustrations trying to catch the master knuckle-baller, Hoyt Wilhelm. No matter if you're a Bird fan, Pirate fan or a baseball fan in general, I think you'll find it to be a fun read. Watch for it in October!!
