Andy Seiler's March Mock (interesting quotes)

Good news, if true, for Taillon fans.2. Pittsburgh Pirates – Deck McGuire, RHP, Georgia Tech – I know this one will bring plenty of wailing from the Pittsburgh community, but I simply don’t see any connection between the Pirates and Jameson Taillon. With Anthony Ranaudo out right now, McGuire has stepped up to become the best draft-eligible college pitcher in the country, and he offers solid stuff with some projection remaining. Previously: #10.
How much money was the previous highest prep pitcher paid? Does that make it less likely for the O's?3. Baltimore Orioles – Jameson Taillon, RHP, The Woodlands HS (TX) – If Taillon does fall into the laps of the Orioles, this will be another no-brainer type of selection. There was a little bit of worry a couple of weeks ago when Taillon’s velocity dipped a bit in a start, but it was back up in his most recent start. Cost is the big factor here, considering Taillon might be the most expensive prep arm ever. Previously: #3.

I believe Jacob Turner (DET, 1:9, 2009) has the highest -- something like $5.5million guaranteed with incentives to push it up to $7million.
I would say there is little chance BAL ends-up signing Taillon. Matzek was comparable last year and BAL had no interest (apparently at least partly due to make-up issues). Maybe things are different this year because they will be saving money by not having a 2nd round pick, but I'll be pleasantly shocked if that means the O's pay the premium for a prep righty.

And if this does play out the way you outline it, I think the Orioles would have made a big mistake. From all of the reports I have read and the video I have seen (yours and others), Taillon is a big talent and is a no brainer selection if he is available. I thought passing on Matzek and also Wheeler was a mistake to take Hobgood, but, at least they spent later.
Whatever, I'm a firm believer in taking the BPA and paying for it. Taillon has separated himself from the other arms and no bats College or HS are close, IMOP. The draft is still the cheapest way to get top of the line talent and the Orioles do have the money especially with Tejada's and most likely, Atkins off the payroll.
