Classic status? I'm leaning towards yes.

What effect would that have had? You think that it would have affected A SINGLE FREE AGENT's decision in the next three years? You think things would be ANY BETTER AT ALL right now because we somehow managed to lose 25-11 instead of 30-3?

We would have finished with the exact same record. We would have had the exact same draft pick. I can't honeslty think that we would have gotten any free agents we didn't otherwise get.

So I don't see how, IN ANY WAY, things could be better.

And using a starter on a scheduled day off, especially one who has been injury prone, has a downside. Maybe there's a 90% chance Bedard wouldn't have gotten hurt in any way. But why take even a 10% chance when you get NOTHING BACK.

Tell me, what would be better today, if we had lost that game 25-11?
The problem with the 30-3 game was the teams reaction to it. We lost 18 of the next 21. Putting Bedard in the game would show great mental weakness, the score of one game shouldn't matter. That idea would just further the mental weakness of this team. We showed that in how we played after that.

That game is midly somewhat similar to right now. Gonzalez's blown saves were tough but it isn't those blown saves that doomed us it is our reaction to it. Trembley should be fired because under his watch the team allowed 2 tough losses in the first 4 games to define the team. In a sport with 162 games, 4 games into the season shouldn't matter that much no matter how tough the losses. We have no leadership with the players but it needs to come from somewhere. The same thing happened before Dave got here, he inherited this problem. Fair or not 25 players can't go and it doesn't look like he is the guy who can get these players to respond. In all fairness most managers wouldn't be able to. These players know one thing, how to lose.

I like Dave and I think if he managed a team with some mental toughness he could do just fine. Problem for him is his first job came under extremely difficult circumstances. This team is accustomed to losing and it's lack of confidence is alarming. Allowing a couple of tough losses and the loss of BRob shouldn't demoralize a team this early into the season. I have felt for years that this team plays like the current losing season streak is a part of their current record. This team plays like we are 2-13 plus 12 straight losing seasons. We need a new voice, fair or not.

One thing for sure though, Paul Shuey would not have been in there to give up the last 9 runs!
If a teams psyche is that fragile to let the score of an individual game bother them so much then that is the problem. It was 1 loss, big deal, deal with it and move on.

Was the subsequent slide due to the 30-3 game?

Or was it due to the HORRIBLE pitchers we were using that Sept (starting guys like Victor Zambrano and Victor Santos, for example?)

Or was it due to whatever mysterious force has caused us to collapse in September badly about 6 times inthe past 10 years ... only one of those years had a 30-3 loss in it?

Yeah Eddie, but the score put them in the record book for a negative thing. That's the difference. Maybe that is why they lost 18 of the next 21. Who wants to be associated with that trivial question: Which team has given up the most runs in a baseball game in the modern era? Answer: The Baltimore Orioles who on August 22, 2007 gave up 30 runs to the Texas Rangers. This was the most runs scored in 110 years.

I hear you but I have seen too many examples of this team mailing it in right after a tough loss. It happens year after year. I see a team with no fight to it, they look like they just accept what happens. Our pitching was terrible that year I agree but still. I could go back on baseball-reference and find numerous examples. I can understand our struggles late in the year. Our talent isn't as good but I find it hard to believe that if we fought a little harder our record might of been a little better. I am talking about the extreme losing cycles that exist that bother me so much.

I would be a man and get pissed off, that is what I would do. I wouldn't mope around and feel sorry for myself. That game was a fluke. That is how the team should of reacted to it.

If Frobby is OH's version of Joe the Plumber, I don't see that as the worst thing possible, especially after smelling some of the BS clogging this thread and others recently.

I'd like to think that Frobby has a lot more intelligence and respect than a made up "average Joe"
