They've done it AGAIN! (A uniforms dissertation)

It seems the Orioles are gonna party like it's 1998 next season, by once again trying to use the "official" Orioles script on the home jersey.
Here's one of Gulfbird's photos from Saturday's Sarasota Fan Fest, showing Brad Bergesen in what I can only guess is the 2010 home jersey.

Now here's a photo of a 2008 home jersey for comparison.

Note that while the left side of the new jersey looks better, with the "o" to "l" transition fixed, the right side looks significantly worse. The "i" looks almost as tall as the "l"!
I just don't get it. The Orioles have had this

as their official logo script since 1995. They tried to use a variant of it mid-season in 1996 and it looked AWFUL.

(This is actually a prototype, but you get the idea.)

They tried again in 1998, and while the results were not as bad as 1996, they still sucked pretty hard.

Yet here we go again, trying to force fit the Orioles script onto a jersey with a break in it. You can get away with this script on a pullover, but on a button-front you're going to either wind up with a script that's running at two different angles, or things are going to have to run uphill from left to right at a pretty severe incline.
Nobody else in MLB tries this...because it doesn't work!

(I wonder if it's going to be 1998 all over again, with a sudden mid-season fix that restores the lower "Ori" to the jerseys...)

Thus endeth the lesson/screed. Carry on.

I don't care if they are wearing the God awful Padres uniforms of the past or even those hideous blue jays uniforms of the past. I do not even care if they go out there with pacifiers while wearing huggies. I just want to sit with my kids and watch a world series featuring the Orioles before I die.

I honestly think it is the angle of the ripple in the shirt that is causing that.

We whould be happy they fixed the O-L transition.

Sorry. I know you put a lot of thought and effort into this, and I won't begrudge your opinion, but to me the difference is so subtle it is neglible and unrecognizable had you not pointed it out.

The thread title did say "a uniforms dissertation". If you don't care, why did you even read my post?

I have to admit that I'm with Moose on this one.

I never said I was not interested in what the subject was about. I just think when you break it down to brass tacks that it does not matter what the uniform looks like. Plus, to be honest, I really do not see a difference here and while they are not the snappiest uniforms in the history of the game they certainly do not look horrible.

Fo shizzle, dizzle.

Actually, the difference (if any) is so small you gotta wonder why the Orioles would even bother in the first place.

The difference is slight, and if you didn't know what to look for you would probably not notice.

I think that the 2010 uni's (if you want to call what Bergy is wearing that) hae fixed the awful "fat" bridge between the second O and the L.

Meanwhile, I think what MM is talking about here is brought on by two things. One, the angle of Bergy's shirt makes the O seem smaller - and two, I think the Orioles logo has a slight trail off in letters

OriOles

So the I looks bigger than it actually is from that angle.

I was thinking the same thing - Mad Mark, you mentioned this in at least 3 threads that I've seen.
