Need.  Pitching.

Really, two outfielders is inexcusable.

Colby Rasmus, anyone??

You simply cannot justify these decisions. We've come away with guys that were rated lower than the picks we made three times in a row. Two outfielders when we have a glut of them already, and a shortstop who has a decent ceiling but a low floor. No pitching with a lot of guys left who we could have spent that overslot money on. Elias messed this draft up big time. Inexcusable decision making is being kind.

Says a clear amateur draft expert.

Let's just say this isn't a traditional scouting draft class. Obviously there's stuff that we don't know about.

The use of psychotropic drugs by members of our front office comes to mind as a possibility.

Well my belief of having to build your position player roster from within must be held by the FO as well.

I SWEAR MLB is forcing the Orioles to make these loser picks so they can move them to Nashville.  Why not- the Nats moving to the area and winning a World Series (and may win more in years to come) is our worst nightmare and they are now our a daddy.   What a SAD state of affairs for this organization.

Law had him at 51 but sounds kinda Joey Rickard to me

"If he can handle center field, he’s got a chance to be an above-average regular even without average power; if not, he might be a quality fourth outfielder who plays all three spots but doesn’t quite have the thump to be a regular in a corner."

The guys on MLB.com said the opposite - they said the guy has power and profiles as a 20/20 starting CF,  Somebody is wrong.  I hope it's Law (again).

Most were thinking we took Kjerstad at 2 to go high-upside overslot pitchers at later picks.  Now it’s looking like it was just a cheap move.

Colby Rasmus, I hope you showed up to Wal-Mart without your mask and they didn't let you in.

So we're supposed to sit here and be Orioles bootlickers and cheer on everything they do?

Perhaps we will sign a young arm for 20k and the Angelos law firm will hire them as a summer intern for $5m.

Did you hear Harold Reynolds when they asked him what he thought of the pick?  He hesitated and said "I lllliked it" in the same way you say you liked the lima bean stew your friend's mom fed you when she asked what you thought of it.  I wonder if Harold had any idea who he was.  I was a scramble to find a notecard with some bio info and stats.

I would not worry. Listening to the experts all these guys will pan out.

I am aware of what most people are assuming. I'm not jumping to any conclusions until the draft is over and all the ink is on paper - and even then, I'm not jumping. It's an amateur draft. It takes years to really suss this out. The overreaction theater here is embarrassing. Especially since with a few rare exceptions, we're a group of people who have zero experience evaluating these players. And the overwhelming majority of writers doing mock drafts have never seen them in person - they're just basing their mocks on hearsay and what other people are writing.

Given minor league contraction, are we even going to have room for all of these outfielders?  We also took 3 college OF in the first 7 rounds last year.

    • Last series of the season, the homestretch, Lopez versus who cares? Go Os! Savor every hit and run, savor even the errors and the gaffes, because after Sunday, the sun sets until Pitchers & Catchers report...if they do. edit: and if you DO care, it’s Taiwan Walker flinging for the Jays.
    • Hays should be on the IL by then.
    • Eddie Gamboa did make the majors with the Rays in 2016 and Baseball Reference has him wearing an O's hat.  Does that count?
    • My guess: If they trade Cobb at the deadline they will already have paid 2/3s of his salary.   If Elias can dump half of Cobb's salary for a Dominican player that will probably never make the majors......he is gone. I don't know Elias plans for Diaz but if he think he will be promoted by some time in May he will need to find at bats for him.   Nunez  staying on a 30 homer pace means he could make 2 or 3 million in arbitration.   I don't see Elias paying that when he can replace him with a current O's prospect make less than 600K.   Alberto will be a one and a half years from FA in July.  So if someone makes an offer that gets Elias a good return Alberto  is gone.  Valaika is almost the same player.   Hit lefties but not righties.  Plays a decent 2B with some versatility.  And Valaika will be cheaper by a million or two. Davis probably stays on the 26 man roster so they can see if there is a work stoppage in the next two years that saves the O's part of his salary.   So the bench is Davis, a catcher, an outfielder and an infielder that can play SS well enough to backup Iglesias.   With Martin at AAA to start the season Elias has to go find that player.
