  1. I really wish you would just drop this crap and just post about baseball. We get it, you feel oppressed, woe is you, the logic squad is out to get you. What do you want? To complain about the FO and not have people argue with you? That is all that is going on here. No one has ever said you don't have the right to post your opinion, but you just spew the same crap over and over as if the OH is some Gestapo out to squelch free thought. There are more optimistic people here than the Sun Board, Roch's blog, etc. etc., but rather than making sweeping generalizations about some conspiratorial rest

  3. Viviano just read a statement from Cal on the air... he refuted the whole "Angelos doesn't want Cal to receive credit for the turnaround" thing. He also confirmed that he's been in discussions with Andy & Angelos about returning to the big leagues for the Orioles. I don't have a link but I suspect there'll be one shortly. So, this sounds like good news to me.... I'm sure someone will call it spin, etc... go nuts.

  4. See this is where our points of view diverge. AM said, two years ago, that the FA spree would not occur until this team was ready to compete. That the FA spending would only coincide with the conclusion of the rebuilding and maturation of our top prospects. Clearly, since it takes more than two years to rebuild a system like that, I'm not ready to get all upset and begin making comparisons that don't fit. Three years from now, if this is still a conversation to have, I'll share your sentiment. Until then.... oye. And seriously, dude, you need to stop equating yourself to some abused poster. N

  6. I cannot believe some people here. First off, Cal has said for years that he's taking family time and that he'd think about coming back when his kids were grown. As he said in this response, he's got a kid who's almost out of high school, and thus will be open to returning once that happens. Second off, both he and PA clearly denied the story. Yet people will find some goofy way of claiming that they didn't really deny it. It was worded too carefully, unless it was worded too uncarefully. Jeez, people, what the hell do you want? You think both Cal and PA should put *you* in charge of

  8. You're right that Rosenthal brings up some good points. It'd be nice for everybody if he could just leave it as his reasonable and intriguing questions that he raises, but he has to take it to a childish and unprofessional attack on Angelos and Ripken. With all the legitimate things you can say negative about Angelos, I don't understand why people would marginalize their points by making asinine and pointless extraneous criticisms that have no real merit. This could have been a very good piece exposing a lot of things wrong with the way Angelos continues to operate. Instead most people will

  9. The Rosenthal "rebuttal" is pretty remarkable. There really is no comeback to the statements of Ripken and Angelos, except to simply state "I stand by my story." This is what Rosenthal himself does in the first line of the piece. This is what untold hundreds of journalists have done in similar circumstances. But that's not good enough for Rosenthal: he then proceeds to trash both Angelos and Ripken, for having the temerity to deny his report. (And of course this is why he's attacking them: do we suppose that he'd have written such an article if Ripken and Angelos had said "no comment"?) I

  18. I almost never give or receive negative rep. Well I did give and receive once each recently. Two different people. The giving was due to someone saying another posters point was dumb or something like that, when the point was far from dumb. The neg rep . Obviously annoyed the guy somehow. I used give and receive negative rep more often in the early days of rep when I'd get into more heated arguments with people. That still happens to a lesser degree now, but it doesn't end up getting nearly as personal in most cases and doesn't result in "rep wars."

  20. I've gotten neg repped three times I can recall, once was legit, and I'm better "friends" with that person today for it... The second was nonsense, and I avoid that person at all costs. It's just easier. Childish, but easier. The third was from "boogiedown", who didn't get along with many folks, and he crushed "Yuds" in a thread, and I felt the need to defend him. I got more positive rep from that than any post I've ever done, so it worked out. As for positive, I give a lot more than I get, but that's cool, i don't say anything important anyway.

  22. You know the "spend money no matter what" crowd would have a better point if the free agents from last year were actually producing and helping their teams win this year. Lackey has had 3 starts. 2 good and 1 awful. His team is 4-9. Millwood's definately been better and costed much less. Chone Figgins was probably the 2nd best hitter out there. He's hitting .238 and his slugging is a horrifying .310. His team is below .500. Tejada has been better. Matt Holiday has been the best of the bunch and yet Pie was outplaying him until he got hurt. Even still, the difference wouldn

  23. I don't think it's a matter of courtesy. If Cal was asked that question and Angelos did indeed say it, what do you think Cal would do? Avoid the question? Say "no comment"? See, that's where I disagree. I think he would be diplomatic about it to both protect the Orioles and Angelos.

  24. Getting positive rep from Tony is indeed a special thing. 25 points in one shot. And when you get it, you know your post was/is indeed worth it, as I find that Tony's positive rep is not handed out too freely. I enjoy getting rep from any poster, but from certain posters in particular for a variety of reasons. As for neg rep, perhaps 2-3 times have I received it. Those posters know who they are..... In a way it would be kind of neat for plus members to see who has given what kind of rep for each post, and to see the comments as to why the rep was given. Not that I stay up at nights

  25. Unless Brandon Graham, Demaryius Thomas or Kyle Wilson are available (I don't see any of them making it to 25), I think the Ravens will use Tebow or Colt McCoy to trade down with a team that covets one of them. Specifically, a deal with Buffalo seems like a logical possibility, which would enable them to hurdle Minnesota who I have to think likes the idea of adding Tebow. Guys like Roger Saffold OT Indiana, Nate Allen S South Florida, Golden Tate WR Notre Dame and Patrick Robinson CB Florida State strike me as strong options at the top of round two. Throw Mount Cody in there too.

  27. Actually, what I think is more likely is he doesn't want to start now. I take him at his word that he's waiting for his kid to finish high school. But I think if he wants to come in at a relatively high level, he would need a year or two working with MacPhail. But MacPhail may not be here in a few years. He may be the commissioner, he may retire, he may leave, whatever. So the O's probably wanted him to start now and he's not ready yet. So, I think he said why don't I serve as a sort of unofficial mentor, just get to know the guys and help them figure out how to adjust. And when Angelos didn'

  29. I'm not one to get all pissy whenever a national writer speaks bad of the Orioles, but as for Rosenthal, his contempt for Angelos and the Birds is evident in every piece he writes about us. I have no doubts that his article was meant as nothing more than another piece to stir up trouble.

  31. There's a trade offer for the Ravens on the table now but I think that might be the least suprise. I've been told that they are pretty far apart from the scouting services as to the value of some of these guys. I was told its as far apart as they've ever been. Just so you know, the Ravens are the only team in the NFL that doesn't subscribe to any of the scouting programs put together by Scouts Inc etc. They Ravens do their own work. It's hard for me sometimes to give my thoughts on what I want the Ravens to do but I'm going to put that out there tomorrow. The problem is, I hear some of

  39. I've stated all this before in other threads. But here goes. Its NOT common knowledge that Jax doesn't support the Jags. That's my issue. The locals LOVE them. The problem is there just aren't that many locals. 3 Navy bases in the area make it, esssentially, a transient area. Fans from all over the country who already have a team. Also, they haven't been in the city long enough to unseat the deep DEEP alliances to UF/FSU/UM and the Dolphins/Bucs. If you factor in all of those things, it makes it clearer, yes? Really, I get bothered the most by people who read a thing here or the

  40. Good points. But Rosenthal brings up a lot of points here, a lot of points that have been echoed on the OH...specifically why does this team not embrace its past and it's legendary players? And what else did you expect from Rosenthal? Him to say he was wrong from the start? A lot of people hate on Rosenthal here for no apparent reason, quick to point out perceived vendettas against the franchise... ...guys, I've said it before and I'll say it again. 41. No one is to blame. Sometimes things just do not work out like they are planned. Blaming people when things go bad is the way of the weak and timid. When things are going bad it is time to reach down for that little bit extra that separates winners from losers. Why don"t we as fans support our team more than 11 games before we start throwing hissy fits and acting like weak and feebleminded sheep. Or at the very first sign of things going wrong to begin on our personal agenda's that were born out of where tex did not sign to play.

  43. If you really want to know I would have tried to sign Holliday. Considering he took 7/120 with St. Louis with 2 million deferred annually reducing the present worth of that contract considerably, I think 6/119 frontloaded with an option for $17 million for a package of 7/133 with no deferred money could have got him. Then I would have traded Tillman, Arrieta, Joseph and possibly Snyder or another prospect to SD for Adrian Gonzalez and worried about the extension later. And yes I would have signed Lackey to a 5/90 contract. For 3B I probably would have gone the stopgap route, so we can say

  44. Instead of blaming this on luck, it's time to start pointing fingers at the man ultimately responsible for this horrid start to begin the season - Andy MacPhail. Flash back to October 2009. We've just come off our 12th losing season in a row. Here was a chance to go get a manager and give this team a fresh start and a winning attitude, somebody to guide the hungry young players into a new era. So what does Andy do? He renews the same manager and brings back the same exact coaching staff minus only the bench coach. Andy then proceeds to make this statement: We now know 2010 is about wi
