My pre-Christmas gift to most people on the Hangout is to ban Trea for a three days. You are welcome and yes, I probably should have made it until the New Year.

With all the sadness that's been posted on the HO the past few weeks, we sure could use, a little good news today. I'm not trying to dismiss the sad news we've been hearing lately. My intention, is not to offend anybody. I apologize, in advance, if I do. Mods, if this is not appropriate, then please delete. I just thought maybe we could find some goood news out there to post, to lift our HO spirits. Anybody want to post something good or happy, that is happening in their lives and you would like to share? For me...I bought a 91 Miata about a month ago. I've been wanting to buy one for many years, but I never thought that I would actually go through with it, seeing how it's only a two seater. I was going to buy something much bigger, an old ladies car, but what the heck, you only live once. So it bought her and and I'm in love. :hearts: I'm calling her Dori, because she is green. In Japanese, midori means green and it's a popular feminine name there. She reminds me of my 60's British sports cars that I've owned. Only Midori is going to be way more reliable. :thumbsup1:

And a song was heard wafting from a root celler somewhere in the wilds of Maine... I want the fat guy, pa rumpapapum I'll trade you anyone, pa rumpapapum A barren farm means nothing to me, nothing to me, nothing to me I am the Prophet so you listen to me, listen to me, listen to me If Prince is one and done, pa rumpapapum We'll cherish the Series he won, pa rumpapapum While I beat my drum...

Mmmmmmm pretty sure we have a VERY recent example of a team with a great pitching staff and mediocre offense beating a team with a great offense and an above average pitching staff in the World Series. And if I remember, they did it convincingly.

Things that are great about living in JTrea's universe: 1) riding unicorns to work. 2) being irresistible to women (and all opposing GMs). 3) maintaining "elite" status at Rascal scooter-defying weights. 4) living in houses made entirely out of pancakes (and the faucets...you guessed it). 5) Nicholas Cage (obviously).

I had a follow up with my heart doc Thursday, or his PA. She said my BP was so good she increased one of my meds to help my heart heal. Doing well.

There are many things in Jtrea's plans that are poor..here are some of them: 1) He believes the Orioles have more money to spend than they do. 2) He doesn't take into account how much money they should be spending on amateur talent..if you spend all of your baseball budget on the ML team, then you can't put it into the MiL system. 3) To go with #2, if you trade a bunch of young talent, then you need to upgrade the system through amateur signings but if you don't have sufficient funds to do that, you are screwed. 4) Jtrea always wants to spend big on FAs...By doing that, you lose picks, which also means you can't upgrade the system. 5) If you trade young talent, lose picks and spend most of your baseball budget on FAs, not only will your system suck but you will have no depth. By doing that, that means you have to spend even more money on over the hill talent and you pretty much guarantee that you will lock yourselves into poor long term deals because of it, which brings us back to where we have been...A mediocre team full of 2-3 year poor contracts that can' break a 500 record.

You've said that AM is the worst GM in Orioles history, no? You've also said that the current team can contend this year with a couple of moves, no? I don't see how you can answer yes to both questions. If he's been so terrible, how can we be a couple of moves away from contending?

The funniest part of this story about Karim Garcia hitting 3 homers in a game in the Mexican League is the opening line... "Based on what former major leaguer outfielder Karim Garcia did Sunday in Navojoa , it's hard to imagine he won't receive an invitation to spring training in 2011." Uh...no, it's not. Orioles were last team of his 7 team tour of the majors....for extra bonus points (and without looking it up) can you name the Oriole traded for Karim Garcia?

I'm relatively pain free from surgery on Thursday. It's more of an uncomfortable feeling then anything. As long as it's not pain I will take it. Minimal use of pain medicine. I get to enjoy my firehouse Christmas party tonight too. We bicker out there sometimes about some things but we always seem to pull it together. Surgery or not, I wouldn't miss it for the world. A little fellowship will go a long wAy today. Good thread.

I agree that the Orioles, who allowed 785 runs last year, who had the second worst starting rotation in the AL, who have not added any starters to the organization, who had the second worst bullpen in the AL, who have added Jeremy Accardo to the bullpen, would be happy to be in the top 3 or 4 at around 650 total runs allowed. :thumbsup1: :agree:

If it is between us and the Nationals for Lee, I think he is likely to take an offer from the Nationals. He has never played in anything but the National League and is looking for a bounce back season. It just makes sense for him to choose the Nationals.

SO much of the corner pins is confidence. I'm left handed but for the 7 I go cross lanes, flatten the wrist out and throw hard. I guess the advice I would give is don't put your thumb and fingers as far into the ball as you normally would. That should naturally flatten your wrist out. Then on the release deadened your wrist and follow through at the line. .

I'm glad to hear that. However, I was in an accident with my pregnant wife. I'm convinced the driver was texting. I asked the officer if he was going to check her phone records. He said he couldn't because it wasn't a primary offense and he didn't observe her. So that could potentially be one that doesn't get recorded. My back is still messed up. IMO, texting is much more dangerous than someone driving with a .08-.12. And is on par with those who have higher BACs.

What a wreck the Jets are turning into. Losing games, staff members trying to hurt other team's players, players upset with Rex, players pulling themselves out of games because they don't want to return punts, etc. I wonder if there are 15 guys over there who would love to play for the Ravens right now.

All good....I thought that Chester had started the year until Yanda was fully recovered. I think the pass protection issues are partially due to the reshuffling/injuries and regression of the O-line. Oher has been inconsistent at LT this year; maybe growing pains, maybe it's his knee the last 2 games, either way he's been problematic at times. Age/wear and tear could be a factor for Birk. I don't know much about Birk before he came to Baltimore, except that he was a 6 time Pro Bowler, but he strikes as more of "technique" guy as opposed to a mauler. (like Jason Brown) I believe another part of the pass protection issues may fall on Flacco, sort of. My thought process is that, in effort to try to distribute the football evenly, with the additions to the WR corps, Flacco may hold the ball a bit longer, waiting for something to come open. I think the coaching staff could help out by drawing up some different route combos, easing back on double moves/deeper patterns and putting Flacco in the shotgun more. As for the running game, it's easy to point to the O-line and say that they're not blocking as well, not opening up as many holes, which is certainly the case at times. However, I also believe that coaching staff is to blame for some of the running woes. It feels like we get away from the running game too quickly, thus we don't allow the RB and OL to get into any kind of rhythm, which can really hamper YPC.

I know this is a reach for some, but isn't it possible that Laroche would do a good job for 3 years? Some already have him traded in the 3rd year. If the man has been a pretty solid player so far, shouldn't we look at him as a problem fixed, instead of a upcoming problem?

Let me help you out - they've LOST THEIR PROSPECT ELIGIBILITY! I just can't decide if you were being deceptive or just clueless. You really thought Jonathan Schoop has more value right now than Jake Arrieta? Okay.

http://www.fantasysp.com/player/mlb/Adam_LaRoche/1368134 Im as sick of providing incremental updates on the Orioles search for a first baseman as you are of reading them. However, Im still getting daily questions about it so I feel compelled to address them. Here is what I feel comfortable in saying: The Orioles have been negotiating daily with Mike Milchin, the agent for Adam LaRoche. They clearly are focused on getting a deal done with him, so much so that Derrek Lee appears to be on the backburner. LaRoche also maintains interest in playing for the Orioles, though they arent his only option. Despite the daily negotiations and the mutual interest, a deal wasnt imminent as of last night, according to people on both sides. I wish I had more information for you as to why. LaRoche reportedly wants a three-year deal so perhaps thats the big holdup. I cannot say for sure as neither side is returning calls.

This is another phrase I keep hearing from people as in "we can't trade the farm" or "we'd cripple the farm" if we traded so and so. First let's look at what is considered by experts to be "the farm": From Baseball America: 1. Manny Machado, ss 2. Zach Britton, lhp 3. Xavier Avery, of 4. L.J. Hoes, 2b 5. Dan Klein, rhp 6. Wynn Pelzer, rhp 7. Mychal Givens, ss 8. Ryan Adams, 2b/3b 9. Ryan Berry, rhp 10. Jonathan Schoop, ss From John Sickels: 1. Manny Machado, SS, 2. Zach Britton, LHP 3. Dan Klein, RHP 4. Mycal Givens, SS 5. Xavier Avery, OF 6. L.J. Hoes, 2B, 7. Jonathan Schoop, SS 8. Ryan Adams, INF, 9. Ryan Berry, RHP 10. Wynn Pelzer, RHP Notice nowhere in that list do you see the names Tillman, Arrieta or Bell. And if you look at the bottom of that top 10 list, the names don't exactly excite you. The Orioles farm system has already been drained. It is already crippled. It can't sustain the ML team right now minus Zach Britton. And at the ML level the team is ready to take the next step but is missing pieces. So when you are talking about trading the farm for players - it's not really the farm. It's depth of players who may or may not make it in the majors to acquire the established talent missing at the ML level. We aren't talking about trading our top prospects here. We are dealing suspects that may or may not make it in the majors, that aren't part of your ML core that needs to be supplemented to actually win. If we don't do that, we aren't winning anything, and the players in the farm system are likely several years away if they make it at all. "Trading the farm" doesn't look like a horrible option when you put it in perspective. "Treading water" is much worse, because all it guarantees you is that you'll miss the playoffs for another year.
