  1. I think Andy MacPhail was hired because his philosophy and management style appeal to Peter Angelos and align with his goals. MacPhail operates very conservatively and doesn't make a lot of high risk moves. MacPhail doesn't believe in international scouting/spending or high-priced pitching free agents. None of the moves MacPhail has made really differ from what we have done the last 13 years. I feel that Angelos is comfortable letting MacPhail have autonomy because MacPhail is not going to rock the boat or want to make a ton of risky moves. If Angelos wanted to spend tons of money on free age

  3. You never buy the lowest model of an expensive car. If you are going to do that, you might as well get the best car of a lesser brand. It costs less and performs just as well, sometimes better.

  4. And money. $8 Million for a fading star, instead of $15 or $16 million a year for an actual star. If you're not going to get what you think will be at least a very good (if not great) product, you may as well just save your money, and pay a lot less money to a player who will put up similarly mediocre numbers for a fraction of the cost.

  8. I don't think that's going to be good enough for someone like PA. I think Buck would need to say something more along the lines of "Give me the checkbook and I'll give you a winner. Here's what the return on that investment will do to your bank account". If PA thinks that the ROI will justify the risk, then he'll let us win as a byproduct of making him more money.

  9. Congratulations Denise. Michael, I hope you're going to wine and dine her, at her fav restaurant, to celebrate just how awesome she is. She's probably telling you it's no big deal, as you've said she is very modest. But, I hope deep down, she feels good about herself, with what she has accomplished. Kudos Denise. :thumbsup1: P.S. I reallly have been enjoying your avatars the past several days.

  11. Exactly my point...to PA $70 million is a lot to spend on a baseball roster.

  12. It absolutely boggles the mind that anyone believes that Angelos is going to spend. To engage them in such conversation is a complete waste of time. I'm sick of reading it, but that's my problem I guess. Let them sit alone, cross-legged in a corner, rocking back and forth, muttering "red rum, red rum" to themselves, after their lofty expectations come crashing down once again.

  14. I've often wondered how bad the damage would be if one of my trees fell on the house. I always imagine that it would slice through like a laser going through butter. But every time I see a picture of it occurring, it normally either just lying on the roof, or there is a hole in the roof. I pray I never have to deal with it, and my prayers are with your parents. Thankfully they did not get hurt!

  15. I'm not disputing your points, Trea. You probably have 1,000 posts making these same points. We get it. I'm simply saying that you should step back for a bit. Remove Flanagan from things for one minute. AM is the GM of a team that has been completely embarrased over his tenure. Whether it's 30-3, brawls that start because we're sick of good teams kicking our butts, young guys failing to meet expectations or draft picks that have barely played. We've been embarrassed on many levels, constantly really. Now...imagine you're the guy in charge of all of this. Your contract is up. You k

  16. Ever notice how many elderly people have Kitchens or Bathrooms that look the same way they did 20 years ago? Ever notice how people's frame of reference seams to begin with when they were born, or when they started in the idustry they are in? PA beleives baseball should be no different than it was in the early to mid 1990's. You should be able to spend 70-80 million and put a contending team on the field. Sure forgien players are nice, but most of the good talent is in the USA. The game and business of MLB has changed of the last 20 years...and we have an 80 year old owner who knows what work

  17. Lost power around 7am Sunday morning. Still out at home. Spent all day Sunday bailing water by hand out of the sump pump pit, about every half hour or so. Finally started slowing down last evening. Lots of branches fell in my yard, but all the trees are intact. I did get a chance to sip on some rum and enjoy a stoagie on the back deck yesterday while watching the wind blow through the trees. Very peaceful. The power of Mother Nature is impressive. Meat in freezer in the basement is still hard, but the regular fridge in the kitchen is becoming a concern. If power is not on soon, the fo

  19. Of course. To think otherwise goes right to his integrity, and to say it knowing the little we know about what actually happens in a major-league front office shows a desire to make a shortcut through a very complicated situation in order to find an easy conclusion.

  22. Yeah, the other day when Girardi said they wanted to get a doubleheader in today, I had a facebook conversation with a Yankee fan I sort of know about how we would never reschedule just to help the Yankees under Buck, especially after the comments to the press. As I told him today, all of the crying by the Yankees makes me really happy. The Yankees already have every advantage in the world, and now they want everything handed to them. Well guess what? We're under no obligation to treat this like any other rainout for the benefit of your playoff planning. Granderson says that losing an off day

  23. Connor to Brian Matusz: MC: Brian I think we need to make a slight adjustment in your delivery. BM: Sure thing coach. MC: Yeah, I think you need to start throwing right handed to RH batters. BM:.............Uh gee, coach isn't that a bit extreme, I mean, I could really screw up my mechanics. MC: Fine Brian, whatever, I guess yoiu have no desire to get better! I think I'm going to be sick!
