  1. Tackles? Seriously? Its a made up statistic. There is no way you can compare players based on that. Let's talk about game changing plays. How many game changing plays in crucial situations has London Fletcher made? You know why Ray Lewis has a highlight reel on ESPN? Because he has made some of the most insane plays in some of the biggest moments. I don't see a London Fletcher highlight reel on ESPN, NFL Network, Fox. No where. Why? Because he was never a big time player. He has had a solid career, he has made plays on the football field being a MLB. I don't see him making his tea

  2. One thing to remember is that current MLB players (often described as "proven") are not a no-risk proposition. Injuries happen to position players, as well as pitchers, and there is always the possibility that a player's current level of performance won't be sustained going forward. Consider this: Nick Markakis, at the end of his age 24 season in 2008, had a MLB career line of .299/.375/.476 in 1949 PAs (122 OPS+). At the time, there were people who thought there was nowhere to go but up, that he was on the verge of superstardom, etc. As we all know, he's been a solid player, even very good,

  3. With the first few minor league players having declared free agency and our first announced minor league signing of the offseason, I thought it might be time to start the thread similar to last year's (and Crazysilver's in years past) which will cover all the offseason transactions for the Orioles. Let me know if you hear of any more. Additions: Signed to 40-man Roster: - Trayvon Robinson (trade with Seattle) - Danny Valencia (trade with Boston) - Yamaico Navarro (trade with Pittsburgh) - Nate McLouth (re-signed) - TJ McFarland (Rule 5 from Cleveland) - Russ Canzler (waivers from New

  5. Of course Shatner thinks that. It's SHATNER. It always makes me laugh when this sort of thing comes up. Picard was written as the polar opposite to Kirk (Prime, anyway, the rebooted Kirk had a different upbringing). Kirk was a bookworm and studious in his Academy days. Picard was a loose cannon. Kirk learned to trust his gut and shoot from the hip once in command. Picard learned to temper himself and became a good commander as a result...getting stabbed through the heart will do that, I guess. Riker was supposed to be "the Kirk." Look at his name, Riker almost feels like they just s

  7. Might just need to get beat up an scarred Ed Norton 25th hour style to make him look tougher. 100% on the confidence.

  8. 1. When Data died, Picard had a funeral. When Spock died, Kirk reconstituted the body, forced it’s soul back in, and even got him laid along the way. 2. When Picard senses that Wesley is having emotional problems he sits down and talks with him about it. When Kirk sensed that Charlie X was having emotional problems he took him to the gym and threw him around on the mats until he got over it. 3. When Picard went back in time he brought back Data’s head. When Kirk went back in time he brought back a blonde. 4. Picard’s Enterprise was destroyed by a couple of Klingon chicks while he was strand

  9. Completely with you on this one. I have faith that Matusz will turn the corner and be who we thought he would be in 2010.

  10. Awesome work on Bundy. I love what you did there. Since 1954 16 other players logged 15-20 WAR in at least 2500 PAs by their age 24 season. I listed their total WAR over their next 3 years. Robin Yount - 22.2 Tim Raines - 20.2 Ivan Rodriguez - 20 Rusty Staub - 19.8 Adrian Beltre - 17.2 Eddie Murray 17.1 Alan Trammel - 16.9 Buddy Bell - 14.6 Boog Powell - 12.3 Carl Crawford - 12.0 Lloyd Moseby- 10.4 Jose Reyes - 10.1 Chris Speier - 7.5 Terry Puhl - 7.0 Butch Wynegar - 6.8 Gerry Templeton - 4.5 Take that for what you will. It's obviously a flawed way of looking at things. I'm v

  11. I got my scope from Orion Telescopes. They seem to have a very good reputation and I'm extremely happy with the scope I got. Mine is an 8" Dobsonian reflector. It's fairly powerful for a starter scope. I wanted something I could use for a long time. Do you want something basic that's not too expensive or something a little more powerful? I'll try and get my camera attachments set up so I can take some pictures. It's hard to remember and explain exactly how things look. I was pretty blow away by that nebula though.

  12. He got righties out pretty well at the end of 2010. I've been in the camp for a while that most of what's been wrong with Brian has been between his ears. I also think he might be over that. Re your earlier point about guys stepping up...I think that might actually be an argument FOR Saunders. Because he costs less, the FO might be more likely to let a younger kid move ahead in the rotation if they deserve it. Makes him easier to trade if necessary too.

  13. Remember when Ankiel was the number one prospect? Look what happened. Andy Marte? Ruben Mateo? Fernando Tatis? Travis Lee? Jose Cruz, Jr.? Gordon Beckham? Lastings Millage? All guys who were can't miss. I sure missed there superstar seasons...wait, they never had them.

  14. It depends on the environment. As a chemist, I don't wear any. If I go out, I have rings, a chain, and a nice watch that I can wear. For the twenty years I spent as a poker pro, it was very common to see men decked out in gold and jewels.

  15. I wish to thank Tony for this generous amnesty offer he extended as my first post. I am truly humble and greatful for this opportunity. I don't mean to sound like a politician but I sincerely mean this. I have missed interacting with many of you and am saddened that some of my favorite posters (even though I used to argue with them to the extreme) like Sports Guy and Shackleford are not active anymore. I do not have as much time on my hands to post anymore and honestly, have not been reading anything here since my banning. I post on the sun site as some of you may know. I love this site much
