  2. That's unfortunate for you. He's one of the main reasons why we were any good the last 6 years. He works hard. He plays hard. He's active in the community.

  3. If ownership nixes deals, we can complain about it, but at the end of the day the owner of the team can do as he pleases. However, if I am reading you correctly, and Buck was chiming in negatively on Duquette's moves and THAT was causing deals to be vetoed, then there is no way I want Buck back under any circumstances.

  6. Isn't a complete apparent reversal of the way they have been operating kind of a "sorry my bad"? Suddenly looking to spend international money after steadfastly not doing so? Suddenly making moves for the future after a significant history of making short term benefit moves only? Suddenly showing little sentimentality in trading or trying to trade beloved past contributors as opposed to being too sentimental and continually bringing back guys who once contributed? What exactly do you want them to say? Insult their possibly dying father by saying his idiocy prevented us fr

  7. I’m sorry, I really don’t understand how DD is in the wrong here and I don’t really like Jones trying to paint him as a bad guy. He asked him 5 days before the deadline presumably because he waited until he had a deal he thought was good enough to even approach Adam. I don’t see how that’s a bad thing. Also, let’s be very clear, AJ is not getting a deal like Markakis got. There is no market out there for players in their 30s on the decline. Not anymore. Also, something that people really don’t like to reckon with is that Adam Jones does not take great care of his body. He’s aging badly be

  9. A good recap from Meoli: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles/bs-sp-orioles-adam-jones-sabathia-podcast-20180802-story.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter# Link to the podcast directly: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/r2c2-is-uninterrupted/id1384767525?mt=2 A lot of interesting comments in this interview. Most notably, he all but confirmed Philadelphia wanted him to be a 4th outfielder/platoon player and he didn't see that as a fit. He also apparently didn't like some of the comments Dan Duquette made leading up to the deadline. He also talks about the possib

  10. Just FYI, Julio Pablo Martinez, which was the last big Cuba defector, actually defected in November of 17, and wasn’t declared eligible until March of 18. That’s 4 months for the mathematically challenged. We are coming up on 3 month mark for the Mesa brothers on when they defected. So we probably have another month or so before anything actually happens. No expert here. Just a few google searches

  12. He didn't just steal 60 plus bases, he had an OPS+ of 117 in 2016 - at age 25. 62 steals and 60 XBH's and 79 walks. I'd have thought he was one of the top young assets in baseball. Since then, his OPS+ fell to 71 last year and has rebounded a little to 84 this season. Yeah, maybe we get lucky, and he does regain some value. As long as he's healthy, he should be starting.

  13. I cant find the thread about Jones friends telling him to accept the trade, but in that thread there was discussion about "I hope this doesn't turn ugly." And then some posters of course lambasted that guy for even suggesting such a thing. Well, here we are a few days later, and it is turning ugly. Jones disgruntled with DD, media, and the fans. DD disgruntled with Jones for not accepting the trade. Fans disgruntled with Jones about staying, and others saying he won't even find a job next year. Yes friends, it has already turned ugly and we have just started August. Just wait un

  15. Still getting paid by the Orioles. Check Getting another paycheck from the Rangers. Check Keep playing the game you love with a chance to get straightened out by a new pitching coach. Check. The real question is...why would he NOT sign with another team?
    3 points
  16. He could've been that on a contending team this year. After all the lobbying he did to ownership to spend money and sign guys like Davis, I don't think he'll be content on a rebuilding team. Having said that, if he leaves, he loses his 10-5, and his family can be uprooted at any time, so we'll see what's important to him then. Note to Adam, no, I won't "shut the hell up," no matter how many times you say it.

  17. I'm in no way trying to disparage you or your post, but it is a sports team. They don't owe the fans anything. I think it is obvious that there is/was a power struggle inside of the FO, and we as fans have to hope that the situation is finally sorting itself out. As bad of an owner as Peter Angelos has been at times, he has generally spent money on the team. He hasn't spent it in a way that everyone agreed with, but he did spend it. We have to assume that they now have a process and hopefully a clear GM moving forward. If we knew any of the details of what happened, or what is

  20. Apologies, but this really isn't helpful. It honestly doesn't say anything about what DD has actually done or attempted to do. At most, it implies that you rate his efforts, broadly, from "bad" to "great." And that's fine, but it doesn't add anything new to the conversation/perception of the Orioles' inner workings. It's basically just a vague agreement with what most fans already assume. Speaking as someone who would actually like to know more about what's actually happened/happening with the team, I'd encourage you to be more specific. You're a veteran, well-established member of the me

  24. I 100% agree with this statement. You overpay for V2 right now to make a statement that we're serious with international prospects and a make-good for a fanbase that feels like there is no direction right now. If it DOES happen and we do make a significant overpay to get him... and like Davis... V2 turns into a total bust than we need to all agree not to scream about the front office's incompetence.

  25. 29 year old infielder with limited upside on a rebuilding team makes little to no sense. Let Beckham play and see if he can play an adequate defensive short then make the decision.

  28. I think you need to listen to this podcast. It's easy to pick out a few quotes from a 50 minute conversation that out of full context paint Jones as angry -- and make for good fodder for web chat. But listen to this guy talk about the game, how much he loves it. Listen to him talk about just watching baseball and the playoffs. If you don't want to listen to the whole thing, listen starting at the 40 minute mark. https://www.uninterrupted.com/podcasts/4QU0GTlhv2ACoUsGSYiSmG/r-2-c-2

  29. I edited the OP to note his outstanding 2016... thank you. He's the wild card in the deal. He's had one truly full season, two years ago, and was very good. Since then, not so much,. However, as you alluded to, it's possible he regains his prior form and becomes a surprisingly positive addition.

  30. I get all of this and agree. They don't really owe us anything. Not really my point. I have graded the moves as A+ and applaud all of the new direction moves we have suddenly seen as you note above. I don't really expect anything more and I certainly do not expect them to ceaselessly throw anyone under the proverbial bus. I also am waiting for the one thing that will confirm that we are in fact moving in the right direction and doing it right...and that is to name a GM and give that person the full control to execute a plan. If we get to the end of the year and everyone is extended

  35. I would not find that surprising or new, but again, if we are bringing Duquette back, then there is no way his manager can be undermining him. No way.

  36. Alright, that makes a lot more sense actually. With apologies to the Tony-OH theory. I totally believe that Jones would really not want to be traded to Philly where he would be seen as a 4th OF type and then hit free agency with the stain that he is 'no longer an everyday player.' That would probably cost him millions in FA. I may try to listen to this..........thanks for posting!

  38. I'd like to play poker with some of the folks here. The max the Marlins can go is $4.5M, but some here are advocating going the full monty of $8.5M for VVM. Not necessary. It would be nice to land VVM, but I care more about spending the $8.5M appropriately on prospects whether it includes VVM or not.

  39. True, but he asked where it came from... I provided the context. Personally, I think the thread should be re-titled to something more current, like "O's have strong interest in Victor Victor Mesa".

  40. Huh, we do this everyday about players decisions. What makes Jones so special that we can't judge him or have an opinion on his decisions? I think some people have become a little bit holier than thou over Jones. At the end of the day, he made a decision that he had a right to make. As a 10/5 guy I support his right to veto a trade. However, listening to his interviews since it appears he's become very bitter. Then things start leaking out about not wanting to move his family or looking out after his charity. Sorry, but the charity thing is a complete joke because he's be gone two and hal

  41. Hutchinson is 27. Who are the young guys right now that should be getting starts? Means is 25 Yacabonis is 26 Rogers is 25 The guys in AA aren’t ready and shouldn’t be rushed. We were looking at Hutchinson this past offseason. He had success in the AL East in 2014. We can offer opportunity. And he has 3 years of control left if it turns out well.

  43. I love Jones and he’s my favorite Orioles. That said, he didn’t need to come off so strong against fans who had an opinion on what he should do. Many of the people who said he should leave added that they wanted him to have a chance at a ring. His comments were not necessary in my opinion. He could have said it was his decision to stay, he’s earned that, and there is nothing else to say. Adding that he’s happy fans wasted their time offering their opinion was not needed and comes off badly on Adam. This is the example of the “I hope it doesn’t get ugly thread.”

  44. The last time they stank this bad they drafted, Machado, Bundy, Gausman. I think they can draft pretty well at the top. Someone like Whitt jr could be a Machado level talent on the team in 3 years, VVM could be an impact player in 2 years, Diaz could be an every day player, there are about 10 guys that can be really good bullpen pieces over the next two years, who also could get flipped to fill out some holes. Just because you don’t recognize the names, doesn’t mean there isn’t talent there.

  45. Seems to me AJ has his head on straight. AJ seems like a wonderful human being. For him caring more about his charity than going to play for a contender for the rest of the season tells me all I need to know about him. Putting others over oneself is pretty damn special in my book.
