  1. I'll be honest, I'm sick and damn tired of losing. I'm sick and damn tired of not even being competitive. I'm sick and damn tired of this franchise always being an afterthought and joke to the rest of MLB. I'm frustrated that Mountcastle is going through a sophomore slump. I'm frustrated that the first wave of arms have not been able to get it done at the major league level. I'm frustrated that the guys we would hope to start turning things around have floundered this year. Mountcastle: .564 OPS and 6 to to BB to K ratio in 163 PAs is not a slow start, it's at the embarrassment sta

  2. I remember when the Bundy trade was announced being upset that the O's didn't get a top 100 prospect. 4 marginal prospects instead of 1 much better prospect seemed a poor return. With the lost 2020 minor league season there was no way to judge the trade. Bundy looks to be the same Bundy that made O's fans want to pull their hair out and the O's return for him is looking better. The pitchers the O's acquired were Kyle Bradish, Isaac Mattson, Zach, Peek, and Kyle Brnovich. Only Kyle Bradish was a ranked prospect for the Angels, at an unimpressive #21. The results this season have been

  3. And the fan base continues to buy into the idea that you need 5 years to rebuild. It’s all bs but yet people do it anyway.

  4. DJ Stewart's at bat in the 8th illustrates why I don't think he is going to make it as a major league player. Hudson challenged him with consecutive 98 MPH fastballs in the middle of the strike zone. Good velocity, but not particularly good movement or location. Stewart couldn't even get a loud foul ball and struck out swinging. Stewart has a good approach, but as Reggie Smith famously said, you can't survive in the majors (especially playing a bat-first position) if you can't hit the effing fastball.

  5. That may be what Hyde is thinking, but it's overthinking. You have one out and the top of the order coming up. You are planning to take your pitcher out anyway. You have a one run lead and it's obvious that you need to score more runs. Why let the pitcher hit, just to save Stewart or Hays for some later situation that may not ever arise?

  6. These are not valid excuses in my opinion. You need to pinch hit for him in that spot, period. You have four bench players--use them.

  8. Bradish is a starter at AA and I’d say will move to AAA before long if this keeps up. I was expecting him to be very good based on comments Matt Blood and others made last year about his work at the alternate site. Brnovich is a starter at A+. I hadn’t heard any hype about him so I’m excited about what he’s done. He could move to AA if he keeps this up, but he’ll have to get in line behind Grayson Rodriguez. Peek is a starter at low A. This is his first taste of minor league ball, after being drafted by the Angels in. 2019 but, per that team’s custom, not pitching fo

Honestly, I’m not too worried about baseball games, but other situations. I’m watching the numbers drop rapidly, thanks to those who chose to get vaccinated. The more people are vaccinated, the harder it is for the virus to find a target. So hopefully the numbers will continue dwindling despite those people who choose not to get vaccinated. But it’s going to be hard to stomp it out entirely if va

  11. It has been thrown around here ad infinitum here, but it's worth noting that the O's aren't bad in 2021 because of decisions made in 2021. They are bad because of decisions in 2017. Unless Elias was in possession of a time machine when he got here, this was always going to be a long, painful process.

  12. Like I said in another post, I have them at 99 loses with no improvement from last season and I want Hyde gone.

  16. Thanks Frobby! It would be a lot less fun if we didn't have a lot of really good pitchers in the minors. I'm just really enjoying this site and this season. It's hard not to get excited when you envision Means/Rodriguez/Hall/Bradish in the relatively near future, and replacing our offensive black holes at C/2B with Rutschman/Vavra. A lot has to go right of course, but ya gotta like where things are moving with just our in-house options. It's a bit weird critiquing a guy like Brnovich who is just killing it so far. But I think after you watch guys like Rodriguez and Hall, it puts things in pers

  18. Finally got a chance to watch Brnovich (5/12 against High Valley). I’ve been looking forward to watching him since his first start, and I may have had my expectations too high. His line for the night: 5 2/3 IP 1 H 1 ER 0 BB 5K. You can see why he’s having success. He has an excellent "slurve" that is easily his most frequently thrown pitch. He throws it hard and it has a sharp break straight down. I didn't see one good swing on that pitch. His off speed stuff gives hitters fits at this level, and probably will at higher levels as well. Only threw a handful of changeups, but th

  21. What logic am I missing? Spending money in a rebuilding year to improve your baseline ability from 63 wins to 66 wins, is not logical. You know that- or at least you did in 2006. Likewise, trading talent in a rebuilding year ti improve your baseline ability from 63 wins to 66 wins, is not logical. You know that- or at least you did in 2006. How much "ink" was wasted on this website alone during that 14 year Roman wilderness of losing about the futility of spending money and talent on middling upgrades to the short term improvement of a bad team?

  22. A team trading a veteran FA who can contribute is going to want prospects/young talent. It makes no sense for a rebuilding team to make a trade like that. Instead we would be the ones unloading veteran talent for prospects. We may very well do that this offseason with Mancini.

  23. Be specific. That's all I hear. They could be better if they tried a little harder. What moves, that are not just pure hindsight, could have been made in the last 14 months, which would improve this team in the here and now, and not cost them in the long term? I think Rutschman is a perfect example. Yes, if we called him up now it would improve this team. It would cost us a year of his prime theoretically. I'm perfectly fine with that decision. I think a lot of people have a misguided and linear view of a rebuild. And I think a lot of people got overly encouraged by a

  24. What would you have them do to improve that wouldn't take opportunity from future seasons? You're not wrong, but it isn't a particularly strong argument. Yeah, they could bring up Adley tomorrow, and improve the team. Is it worth it? They could trade prospects for improvement in the infield. Is it worth it?

  27. They will need too though. They are going to have to put on big boy pants at some point and buy and arm and a bat. We aren't having a playoff team with just prospects.

  35. I’m glad he did it, but you are smoking something special if you think that Hyde Sat down before the game and said to himself, “Mountcastle is going to hit a homerun in his first at bat, therefore I will sit Hays in favor of him today.”

  40. They have 14 pitchers and he is worried about pen usage. How many arms should they have? If the pen is on fumes how does yanking starters earlier help? You can’t just ignore that portion of the conversation.

  41. You assume so much with this. These young players will not only be on the team but productive right out of the gate. The young arms will not only be up here but able to pitch a ton of innings at a high level.

  42. I’ll be honest — I could never be a scout, or even play one on TV. It really helps me when Tony or a knowledgeable poster gets into detail about why a player is or isn’t having success, and what needs to happen for that player to have success at the next level. So thanks for that.

  43. One thing they need to stop doing is jerking these guys around. Bring them up and keep them up. I am so tired of this organization yo-yo’ing young arms. We have nothing here that should keep them down in the minors. They have openly talked about not caring about winning. So, let the kids play. I can deal with the losing...I can’t deal with the losing when it’s happening with a bunch of players that have no chance of being here long term. Get rid of these guys and bring the kids up. Let them learn up here.

  46. What would you expect the Orioles to do? They needed a starter. They have a guy on the staff who was rested and has started 36 prior games in the majors, and another 123 in the minors. Seems like a very obvious choice, and one that I wouldn't even think twice about making. He pitched poorly last night because he's a average-ish MLB pitcher and sometimes they give up runs.
