  1. Hyde was an idiot to bring in Scott on the 27th. He gave up 3 runs! Hyde was a genius to bring him in on the 18th, 20th, 22nd, 25th and 29th when he gave up no runs. Hyde should only bring Tanner Scott into games where he isn't going to allow any runs. Thank you for listening to my TED Talk.

  3. Both Elias and Hyde must go. They complain of lack of hitting early in season yet they traded Iglieses (373 last year) and let Alberti go (283 last yr). Can you make more than 1 "prospect" they got for Britton, Bundy, Iglieses? All three outfielders and 4 the(McKenna), 1B, DH and #1 starter are from previous GM. We need a 2B, SS, and 3B. All 3 of these Elias pickups are hitting appts 220. Pathetic. Friday, Hyde has a pitcher having given up 4 runs with 2 men on with 81 pitches in the 4th inning and has no one warming up! Sunday the bases are loaded and he brings in Scott who has as many w

  8. It makes no sense. There is zero chance the O's contend next season so you are trading all that and paying two years of Arbitration in the hopes that he makes the 2023 team a playoff team. Hard pass.

  9. Oh, hey, I didn't mean this as snarky as it probably sounded. My bad. Definitely not trying to put anyone in their place with that comment. Honestly, I didn't read the whole thread, I just have been feeling like he's been pretty lucky and it turns out that's maybe true upon looking up the numbers. I've really enjoyed watching him and agree with everything you've said here. I'm really just reminding myself to not get too excited about his current hot streak.

  11. 1.78 ERA on June 18 and he was looking dominant. 11.05 ERA since then. Foreign substances crackdown was announced on June 15. So, it’s not a giant logical leap to think they’re connected. He did have a ten game stretch from July 7 - August 2 where he threw to a 1.69 ERA though.

  13. There are certainly some good stories. Some better than others. Let's start with the really good ones. Stiven Acevedo (OF), Mishael Deson (CF), Moises Ramirez (3B) look really good in the FCL as hitters. All are 19, with Acevedo and Deson starting next year still at 19 years old. All three have some some power. Raul Rangel at 18 (RHP) has been used carefully but has looked quite good as well. On the not so good side, the somewhat highly heralded Luis Gonzalez has been a little disappointing and at this point looks like he'll be repeating. Luis Ortiz, the LHP has also looked

  20. Real nice day for Orioles 1. Won 11 to 4 over losing Arizona Team. Improved to 10 and 19 but some of our youngest players are finally healthy and played today. Centerfielder Junior Lara had 2 singles, a triple, a walk and a stolen base. Now at .500/.643/.700/1.343 in only 6 games and 10 at bats. Finally healthy enough to play. Named as an important "sleeper" when BA analyzed our signing class. Got a modest $160,000. As I remember. Right fielder Ronnie Martinez was hitless but he's healthy. Has the arm for either corner. Hitting .320/452/.360/.812. 8 games 25 at bats , 5 for 6

  22. Roch mentioned the other day that they are going to bring all 5 “taxi squad” players to Toronto and the 2 additions will come from there. Cuiffo should be the taxi catcher, but I wouldn’t bet on him being more than that at all in September unless Severino or Wynns gets hurt. Alex Wells should be on there and on the squad Wednesday. For the players, Tyler Nevin, Richie Martin, Rylan Bannon and Yusniel Diaz are the ones currently on the 40. Time to stalk Roch some more and see who is there.

  23. Did not have a good look in the dugout when the Angels had scored 10+ by the 4th. With Ohtani pitching tomorrow, which I would probably chalk up as a loss, if they can't beat the Angels Thursday, thats 21 in a row. Then we have a 3 game stand against Tampa, which is most likely a sweep for our 24th loss. Which would beat the "modern era" record of 23 set by the Phillies in 1961. Then we have Blue Jays. Its possible we even break the all-time record of 26 in a row set in 1889 by the Louisville Colonels. Hyde can see this coming and does not want to be the manager when it happens.

  24. Be that as it may, even if you accept as a given that 3.5 rWAR is his expected value over the next two seasons, he is still worth a ton more than the pu pu platter of Diaz and Grenier. My offer already had the decline priced into it. If I thought it was at all likely he would be a 7+ rWAR player over one of the next two seasons, I would be willing/forced to offer another top 100 prospect (Hall or Cowser). Gunnar Henderson's 90th percentile best case scenario value-wise is probably something akin to the player Chapman has shown himself to be this year (albeit with more value coming mo

  25. You're absolutely right. I had forgotten Bumbry played LF in his early Baltimore year. Wow, that was a lot of speed. If Baylor hadn't had that shoulder injury that ruined has arm, who knows how good of an OFer he could have become.

  26. This is not how that rhetorical device works. You can't say that someone whose OPS declined from .800 in 2020 to .780 in 2021 declined in 2 straight seasons. It is 3 seasons of "decline", the first of which (2019) he was more valuable by rWAR than the previous season because he played an additional 11 games and his OPS went from .864 to .848. With all that decline, he was still a 7.9 rWAR player in 2019, a 5-ish rWAR player prorated over a full season in 2020, and a 3.5-ish rWAR player in 2021. If he were traded, it wouldn't be for a proverbial bag of balls.

  27. Got to talk to Coby a bit here in Salem at the Shorebirds-Red Sox game last night. I told him I wanted to see him in Baltimore soon because we sure needed the help. He grinned from ear to ear and said he would do his best.

  28. Even in a down year, he is still going to end up somewhere around 3.5 rWAR. At 28 and with two years of arbitration eligibility left, that is a decent amount of value. It would probably take 3 interesting prospects and potentially one of the 2 borderline top-100 guys. Henderson, Stowers and a third piece (someone like Rom, Hernaiz or Trimble) feels about right to me. I don't think the Orioles are going to give up prospects like that for a guy that would only be here through 2023.

  31. I’ve seriously been thinking that this is the case, Elias should get 5 years no matter what, The only way to get talented baseball players is to 1) Draft them 2) Trade for them 3) Sign them in free agency The problem with 1) is that it takes a while, 3 to 5 years being typical, sometimes even longer. The problem with 2) is that you need assets to trade The problem with 3) is you need a budget. Or you need to identify that diamond in the rough that other teams gave given up on, that can turn the corner if given the right circumstances. Which is very har

  40. He had a .636 OPS his first two weeks at Aberdeen. So, hopefully he’ll adjust. Not to worried about it, even if he doesn’t put up big numbers the rest of the year. Just getting to AA this season is a good accomplishment.

  41. Joseph was that way and through hard work became a much better defender. Stewart did at times hold his own defensively but not surprisingly for his body type, he regressed as he got older. If there were questions about Manny's glove it was his range to play SS. While I agree to an extent about taking errors with a grain of salt, minor league fields have come a long way and are not longer the rock filled wasteland of yester year. In fact, Aberdeen plays on turf. When i see a lot of errors and got to the video and see what kinds are errors are they making. Now I haven't done that with

  43. A colleague of mine's son is moving down to FL so his son can do his senior year at IMG. If you have the means and the talent, it's probably the best "high school" to use as a platform to show off your skills. Kids from all over the country move to Bradenton, Fl to play all the various sports they offer. We run into them in Basketball every year. While our team is a perennial top 10 in the nation team, IMG is is a class above. Same in all sports. Not really a high school, it's a sports academy where talented kids go to learn how to become professionals at an early age.
