  1. Soriano RHP from the Angels or Diaz 3B from the A’s look interesting to me.

    Nunez DFA

Kind of expected to see Nunez go. Ruiz and Wynns may be next. A few pitchers might need to contact a moving company too. Also wish we had not lost Alvarado to the A’s after not re signing him. I feel he may be an effective BP arm.
  3. No Mason McCoy or did I miss it?
  4. As a high school coach I try to drill into my kids heads that they should hit the ball where it is pitched. Outside pitch go the opposite way, inside pitch turn on it, middle go middle. Real power is rare at my high school level so an all fields approach works best. I ask them, which is better, a double to right or a double to left. Most say one to left. I tell them, who cares, it is a double. React to the pitch and drive it. Players at the pro level obviously may have a different approach. I think we all agree a hitter should use the approach that maximizes their potential.
  5. C of C Sorry, I misinterpreted your comment. My bad. Appreciate your insight that you provide on the picks
  6. C of C. You sound down on the Iowa OF. Any reason why?

    Garabez Rosa

I have watched the stats on this kid for three years and have been dumbfounded by the lack of attention he has gotten both online and seemingly by the O's brass. What seems to be the issue with him? He has played multiple positions this year and has hit well. Flaherty cannot hit his IQ so I would hope the O's would look at a reasonable utility alternative. Any insight is appreciated.
  8. My guess is these guys have a shot at re-signing: Beato Bundy Stoffel Rosa Borbon Everyone else just had pedestrian stats and could probably be replaced easily.
  9. Ivan Hernandez is listed as signing with the Angels as well.
  10. Not sure if anyone else caught this but in the 9th when it became obvious the Giants were not really going to give Trumbo a pitch to hit Palmer said, and I am paraphrasing here, " yeah, but they still have to throw a pitch to Schoop. An 0-1 count later, boom. Not the first time it seemed like Palmer could see into the future. I just enjoy listening to his analysis during a game. He and Earl may have had their issues but Palmer obviously paid attention during games.
  11. Thought I had read somewhere that we had signed Rios and Gruener as well. Any confirmation?
  12. Based on the circus that occurred during the offseason regarding DD and the Blue Jays, I would suggest DD did enough all on his own to undermine the effectiveness of the GM position
  13. Another name to throw into the mix is Brandon Snyder. Could be a one year fill in while Mancini develops. I am not sure I would count on him to outperform but so far in his return to the O's organization he has hit well at Bowie and he does have MLB experience. Downside is his age vs Walker and Mancini.
  14. Thanks Weams! Appreciate the insight. If there is a second player involved I wonder who. 20th Round pick Adam Walton is a RS Soph at Illinois. He may want the extra cash to sign.
  15. This just gets frustrating every year. A high draft pick holds out until the last day or does not sign. They miss out on development and instructions that could benefit them down the road. In Hughes' case, I assume the O's got assurances that if drafted early he would sign. You do not pick a kid that high without some confidence he signs. I wonder who the kid's agent is. Is he getting bad advice? Did he change his mind and is firm on going to collage? Was someone not honest? Just frustrating.
  16. Doc, is Michael Burgess still with us and if so have you seen or heard anything on him? Thanks as always
  17. Been a high school coach for 15 years. If I had a pitcher who threw as many ground balls as Zach, I would do exactly what Buck did. Made sense to me when he did it, still does even if it had backfired. With Zach on the mound Buck was basically playing with house money.
  18. I was at home alone watching. When Delmon hit the double I was up, windmilling my arms like a 3B coach. When JJ scored I was screaming safe! Safe! And giving the safe sign. Thank God my Wife was not around. She would have had me committed. Might actually have been worth it!
  19. Seriously, I think I would take every two strike pitch til he comes back with the fastball. We do need to learn to adjust better.
  20. Not sure how McCann hit that out one handed. Sometimes I just get really suspicious. New additions to their roster who have struggled all of a sudden are All World, one handed home runs, hmmm. Must just be superior coaching and nutrition.

    vs. RAYS, 9/07

I am just really confused by Buck's decisions sometimes. Hardy is so hurt he cannot play for three outs to insure a Win? Wow. Now Flash makes an error in the ninth for the second game in a row. Seems like we are really depending on that big lead in the division. Just wish I could be that comfortable.

    vs. RAYS, 9/07

I will never understand CD's insistence on pulling everything. Looking at the defensive alignment, all he had to do was just stick the bat out and push it toward third and Cruz walks in. I know he is a class act and has been vital to our success but sometimes he looks stubborn and somewhat unwilling to change his approach. Would have hoped he took note of what Flash and Cruz did earlier but guess not.
  23. Sorry I am late to this but just turned on the TV and saw the replay of the fiasco at home plate. Did anyone else see the shot Beltran took at Caleb's head when he scored? Total cheap shot. As if I needed another reason to hate the a Yanks. There PR is they are classy but in reality they almost go out of their way to be chippy. Wish it was enough for a suspension but it wasn't. Maybe tuck that away for later and see whether Beltran can take it like he dishes out.
  24. So tired of our lack of patience and no recognition of the strike zone. Does not matter what a hitting coach teaches you if you continue to swing at god awful pitches... (Davis, Schoop, etc)
  25. What extended the inning was Flaherty falling for a one step deke from Carpenter and moving three steps off his spot to allow Wong's dinky little dribbler to get through. Really getting frustrated with Flash and his brain farts.
