  1. Please do not suggest parting ways with Buck Showalter without having a replacement who is A) a clear, tangible, heads-and-shoulders above upgrade, and B) is readily available (read "not contractually bound to another club") to serve at the pleasure of Peter Angelos and Dan Duquette. G'head...I'll wait...
  2. I've been out of the loop for a few years and I don't think I ever met or spoke with Maduro. It says a lot to me that you're speaking so highly of him, Tony. It gives me one more thing to be PO'd at this organization about, though. LOL
  3. I forgot about Rodriguez, but Schoop is really the only international guy in my recent memory who's been a contributor at the big league level. If it's a budget issue and not an actual scouting issue, I'll certainly take your word for it.
  4. Are they getting reasonablle value for the slots? It's more of a rhetorical question than anything, but I'm curious how you (and others) feel about it.
  5. The fact that the Orioles keep giving away international slots brings about a few feelings for me...I already have little confidence in their ability to scout internationally and develop players (althought it's gotten marginally better over the last few years), but I can't help but wonder if they're trading them away because they also have no confidence in their international scouting/development...
  6. No argument here, although it's tough not to consider their track record with the picks they do manage to retain until draft day.
  7. Keep in mind, though, threads like this are where some fans get enlightened to this sad truth, so there's still some value in them. The Orioles are terrible at drafting and player development for the most part. Therefore, clubs interested in trading a star player won't view the O's as potential suitors until they get better at evaluating amateur talent and then molding them into legitimate MLB players.
  8. I ran into Sidney Ponson on a Friday night at a Baja Beach Club beer tub. On a night he pitched. And didn't make it out of the fifth inning. About five minutes before the game ended. I had to restrain an inebriated and passionate friend from approaching Ponson to let him know what a POS he was for putting more effort into getting to the front of the beer tub line than he did on the mound that night. Same establishment, this time the parking garage. I was with the same group of guys when we recognized Scott Erickson walking up through the garage puzzled. We said hello to him and he said, "What's up? Feel like helping me find my truck? (I believe it was a black SUV)" We did and he said, "Thanks fellas! Where you guys headed from here?" He was totally looking to keep the night going, but we were all headed to meet back up with the ladies and had no interest in inviting that kind of competition to the party.
  9. The whole site and especially the upgraded message board all look fantastic, Tony! Great job to you and the rest of the team that made it happen!
  10. Hardly his most egregious transgression...
  11. The Impostor. Crazy, crazy story. It's available to stream on Netflix.
  12. What exactly are you basing this on? He didn't call a press conference to announce his plan to attempt a professional baseball career. He's been training quietly for months for this and someone finally ask Tebow's management what was going on. I'll never understand the unfounded hate for someone who's done nothing but be a good person, a physical specimen, an exceptional athlete, and a passionate competitor.
  13. I disagree on Rob and his baseball knowledge. He's certainly no sabremetrician, but I also don't think I've ever heard him opine on baseball and thought, "What the-" like I have with Vinny and Ed.
  14. I'm surprised I didn't find a thread on this already (apologies if I missed it), but yesterday was the station's first day with their revamped lineup. Steve Davis was let go for "cost-cutting reasons", Rob Long is now partnered with Ed Norris for the 6am-10am slot, and Bob Haynie is now paired with Vinny Cerrato for the 10am-2pm slot. I'm a big fan of Rob and shifting to the morning drive seems like a promotion to me, so I couldn't be happier for him. I think they're great together so far and honestly...Ed's gonna have to step his sports game up to keep up with Rob. Bob Haynie sounds at home to me whether he's solo or paired with Ross Grimsley/Vinny Cerrato/Terry Ford/etc. Thoughts?
  15. My wife and I finished it this weekend and this has to be the absolute best synopsis I've seen so far...L is a sort of ET, it's a buddy show, plus mysterious, largely unseen creature.
