  1. Takes 7 of 30 road games off the schedule and moves them to Baltimore. Limited travel gets even more limited with two trips to Boston, 1 to NY (Mets and Yankees) Tampa and Miami, Buses to Philly and DC. 19/22 in Baltimore from Aug 14-Sep 6.
  2. At least for 2020. Oh the irony. https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/baltimore-emerging-possible-site-blue-jays-2020-home-games/
  3. 90's. Camden Yards opens in 1992, 89-73 third place finish. Averaged well over 3m in attendance throughout the decade, leading MLB. Highest payroll with top players wanting to play in OPACY. Ripken Sep 6 1995. Playoffs 96-97. Five of the ten years winning record but should have been more if it weren't for two pitching coaches - Phil Regan and Ray Miller managing the team - 95, 98, 99 + run differentials (95 +64!) and managed to finish 71-73, 79-83 and 78-84 respectively. Strike impacted 1994 and 1995, Ripken "saved" baseball. Amazing crowds every night, the newest and best stadium in baseball, in sports, so much was lost in the 2000-2010 decade that followed.
  4. DJ Stewart is just not an impressive player. Bases loaded weak grounder to first.
  5. Except for VVM piece which maybe was a good thing. Substitute Santander, draft AR, sprinkle in the emergence of John Means and arguably things on are slightly ahead of plan.
  6. 421-393 overall, .517. Without DSL 359-323, .526. Likely best overall record in awhile.
  7. Chris Davis. At this point CD is blocking DJ. Mancini to 1B, Núñez DH Stewart to RF, Stevie W can back up all OF and INF. Or you go to a four man bench and send down a pitcher.
  8. IMO He will never be “the guy” and still has not matured into a leader...does things where everyone perceives the worst - sometimes perception is reality. His upside is still HOFer but becoming harder to root for.
  9. Used to be a big fan but not longer miss him on the team. He needs to be surrounded by good players and still has not matured into a leader. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/26428126/green-tossed-arguing-machado-interference
  10. I think Jim Hunter will do most of the games and a new announcer will be hired to do the rest.
  11. Brilliant move putting Mancini 2nd today.
  12. Will NOT miss Machado’s play at SS. Zero range hurt more than helped on defense this year. That was a tailor made DP ball for an above average SS. Machado’s range and play at SS is Jeteresque!
  13. agree no adjustments, stubborn, uninspired to the last.
  14. Really growing tired of watching AJ. He is an amazing person and leader, just not convinced he is a great baseball team leader.
  15. Agree with all of this. My frustration is at this point you need to begin to signal things by saying and doing. When Andy, Buck and even Dan came in they advocated for change, evoked the team history spoke to the fans and media in a direct and honest way. The players and fans bought in. This needs to happen again and if they can’t do it they need to go. Time for new or re engaged leadership and we can only hope it’s as good it was in 2012.
  16. Here’s the thing. There is no defending the decisions and rationale behind the composition of the 25 man unless the real plan is to tank. You cannnot talk about how important defense is and attempt to build stronger pitching with an OF with no range or speed, an infield where he left side positions are WIP - even with a healthy Beckham, and a right side that features two players with limited range. This is coupled with a bench that is platoon based, hit first, horrific defensively except for a journeyman 34-year old who is your fastest player but hits like a AAAA middle infielder. The lineup has one great bat, a bunch of declining players, 2 trying to find their way after early season injuries (Schoop and Mancini) and a WIP catching tandem that has barely hit all year. Do Buck and Dan believe this team is a good product and worth the payroll, worth watching on TV or going to see? We love this team, and we are all fans but everyone wants something to get behind and cheer for...it is almost impossible to be a fan of this team, its leadership and whatever approach seems to be in place now - Buck what exactly are you seeing that is enjoyable? Dan are you proud of this team? What exactly would you like to say to the fans? In my 40 years of Os fandom I have never seen a more unwatchable, unlikeable, aimless confusing team.
  17. Really strange managing by Buck. Castro could have started the 8th inning. Why not? Of course Thorne keeps banging on about how the White Sox finally break through. The O's should hire Brockmeier and get relegated to a lower league. Buck looks like he is phoning it in.
  18. I know this subject has been exhausted but I think Os leadership is underestimating now big the Davis issue is. He is having a horrific season and is unlikely to improve. Some big issues to think about. 1) Running him out there every day batting 5th or 6th will not fix him at this point and is making him and the team even worse. If he is in the lineup he should bat 8th. 2) impact on teammates. I think he effects other players - they do not expect him to do anything, they know he is the highest paid player on the team and the three best Machado, Schoop and Jones are all leaving because the team cannot pay any one of them in part because of the Davis money. How is he a good influence or even a helpful teammate at this point? It is sad and disheartening watching him - easily the worst thing about this team. 3) impact on roster, lineup and defense. Playing him at first against LHP makes zero sense. At this point Rickard and Gentry are no worse against LHP and make the OF defense better allowing Mancini to play 1B. But the reality is CD should be benched, DLd or sent to Tibet to find himself. Mancini at 1B would allow room for a LHB for LF - DJ Stewart who has speed and gets on base and for now can platoon with Gentry or Rickard. Eventually Mullins should replace Gentry. 4) $. This problem has come up for many teams and has gotten fixed - Redsox, Marlins, Prince Fielder and Mat Kemp. Need to get creative and deal with this can’t afford the dollars and player to handcuff the franchise. It stinks to have to trade Machado but he has delivered tremendous surplus value and can be flipped into some new valuable assets - he is doing everything he can to help deliver that. Davis is actually the bigger issue to solve and Buck et al need to stop saying that he will right himself. The sooner we move on we can start rebuilding and fixing things.
  19. One that is happening is that Machado is settling in at SS and becoming an elite bat. A team trading for Manny will now believe they are getting an MVP in his prime and a true difference maker. It should mean that virtually every team that is in the race with a real shot at the WS will se Manny as the last piece. The only teams that truly do not need Machado because they have all stars at 3rd and SS are the Astros, Yankees and Red Sox but even those 3 could talk themselves into it if there is an injury. At this point we should see a true “bake off” for the best package. Key is to make sure the return provides at least once difference maker in return.
  20. The issue is leadership. When the team was lousy in 2011 we felt with Buck there was hope he was the antidote to he previous poor managers lack of accountability and moribund play. He would and did begin to fix things. The Robert Andino hit and stirring win over the arrogant Red Sox on the last day of 2011 served as a launching pad for 2012. Scrap heap guys like Davis and O’Day, McClouth became stars. When Duquette came on board everyone laughed but then he signed Jones long-term and began to make smart pickups and draft better players. 2012 was an amazing year and a lovable team, 19 year old Machado was the last piece and he played other worldly defense and showed instinct that belied his years. 2014 was even better but those playoffs lacked Davis (suspended due adderal) and Machado (surgery on the other knee). The seeds of today were sown that offseason with the failure to pursue Cruz, the doubling down on Davis despite his issues after a great 2015 walk year and the trading way of numerous pitching prospects for basically a bunch of non performing players while failing to lock up the real future stars in Schoop and Machado. It is time for a reset with a strong smart GM which has been the path for every club that has won. Duquette and Buck have to realize they have failed to build the right team and the problems are not fixable. Time to move on and pass the baton. Then and only then will we see some change and hope.
  21. Davis should be rehabbed or released. He is sunk, lost cause.
  22. He needs to take up His level of intensity. He was a difference maker at 3rd. At SS so far just average.
  23. Machado cost the run. Yankee announcers all over him for making a mental mistake. And they are right. Manny you need step it up be a leader. As the Yankee announcers said - Baltimore should already be out of the inning.
  24. Machado is coasting so far this year. But as he said he is going to get paid.
