  1. I don’t disagree that his numbers have been pretty atrocious but on a rebuilding team does it really hurt to give him another shot?
  2. I’d like to see the O’s take a chance on him. Highly touted prospect just a few years ago and still young. Why not right? Anyone else agree?
  3. Here’s something I don’t understand...it was reported that we had many teams, making very good offers for Manny, and also reported that some of those teams “sweetened” their offers. If this is indeed the case, I’d have to imagine that the other teams offers were better than a prospect like Diaz and a bunch of “throw ins”. Sure Diaz is a nice, intriguing prospect and I’m certainly not guilable enough to believe the Dodgers (or any team for that matter) are going to give us their best 3 prospects but I guess I’m just confused if other teams sweetened their offers yet we’re going to accept the Dodgers offer of Diaz plus a few “throw ins”. Am I making any sense or just rambling here? Lol.
  4. Sorry...I said “hypothetically”. My point was even if it’s not pitching prospects (which is what we’d prefer), if another team offers 2 really good hitting prospects, we shouldn’t turn it down simply because it’s not pitching.
  5. I know I’ll be in the minority here because I do agree that we should be targeting pitchers but if (hypothetically) the Yanks offered Frazier and Andujar, I jump all over that. Our farm system hasn’t exactly produced too many star-potential offensive prospects lately. I’d love a quality pitching prospect but if no one is offering them, take the next best thing.
  6. Couldn’t have said it better myself. This just proves that the FO has absoluteky no intention of competing this year. I’ve said for weeks now, they’ve made it a point to not give anyone (pitcher or not) more than a 2 year deal so why not offer Lynn or Cobb a 1/$20 million deal so they won’t be tied to any other long contracts (while showing fans they’re at least trying to compete THIS year). It is clear they don’t plan on being competitive and that should frustrate ANY O’s fan.
  7. Oh...I know they won’t. Lol. Just wishful thinking I suppose.
  8. I mean, I don’t know exactly what the Rockies would be looking for in return but me personally, I’d be fine with offering them Brach or Givens and a mid-level prospect for Dahl. Not sure if that would be enough but again, at least gauge interest ya know?
  9. I can see why you would suggest this but no, not really. I’d venture to say Cargo is considerably better than Rasmus and while they only signed him to a 1 year deal, if they can upgrade their team by trading Dahl, I’d absolutely consider it. I love Hayes personally but does that mean we don’t at least entertain offers for him and potentially trade him if we get offered the right package?
  10. Now that it appears the Rockies are being Cargo back, I’d love to see the O’s reach out to them to see if they’d be willing to trade David Dahl and what they’d be looking for in return.
  11. I’m no scout but I just don’t see (and have never seen) why the O’s are so enamored with Wright. I could understand if he had a few appearances where he showed flashes of being a good MLB starter but he just hasn’t. If they’re trotting him out there “hoping” he has a few nice starts in order to try and trade him, fine but I honestly don’t think that’s the case.
  12. I don’t know if Lynn or Cobb would go for it or not but at this point, given the fact that so many O’s are in the final year of their contracts and for some odd reason it’s seems like the FO is trying to be competitive THIS year, offer one of them a 1 year/$25 million and see if they bite. Yes...that’s a big overpay but it’s only a 1 year commitment and at the very least, our rotation would be vastly improved.
  13. Exactly how I feel. I was a huge Mussina fan and held ZERO grudge against him for leaving. I also don’t hold a grudge because he chose the Yankees...they had the ability to offer him the most money and best opportunity to win. For all the talk about how many people dislike Angelos for the way he runs this organization, Mussina should’ve been applauded for basically telling him to pound sand. And take this for what you will but years ago, I ran into Mussina’s brother in a bar, noticed him right away and decided to go over and strike up a conversation with him. Super nice guy. He talked to me for at least 30 minutes and he explained that Mike was furious about how Angelos reneged on his promise but that he also felt terrible for the fans. Unless his brother is a liar, he did the same thing any normal person, working in a normal business would do if their boss pulled the BS Angelos pulled on him. Mussina will always be one of my top 5 favorite Orioles. Isn’t it “slightly” ironic that we haven’t had a TRUE Ace since he left?
  14. I really wish you would read my posts more carefully. I said in my earlier post I’m not gullible enough to believe that Frazier will actually be as good as Trout but there have been multiple scouting reports where he has been compared to him. What I DID say is that I personally believe he will be a star (that doesn’t mean Trout level star) but a star nontheless. You then stated you believed it would take one of Gausman/Harvey and then 2 out of 3 of Mullins, Hays, Stewart to which I replied that personally, given Harveys injury history and the fact that I simply believe Frazier is far better than Mullins and Stewart that I would trade Harvey, Mullins and Stewart for Frazier in a heartbeat. Then you come back and say it would take much more. It’s fine man...I get it loud and clear that you disagree with my opinion (as usual) but that doesn’t mean that my opinion is any more or less valid than yours.
  15. My point is why not, at the very least, try and get a feel for what it would take? If it’s too much then we don’t do it. If it’s reasonable then it should be considered. Personally I’d trade Harvey and Mullins or Stewart for him. Harvey has already proven to be injury prone and there’s zero guarantee he lives up to his potential. One more time...I’m not saying you have to agree with my opinion...that’s why it’s called my opinion.
  16. And how has trading our best for our biggest need (pitching) worked out so far? Once again, just because I believe Frazier is going to be a star in this league, doesn’t mean that you or anyone else (especially the Yankees FO) has to believe that. I have no idea...I’m not in their heads. Maybe they have soured on him just a little or maybe they’re more willing to trade him since they are loaded in the OF. I agree with other posters that Brach alone would never get it done but perhaps a package of Brach and very solid prospect would.
  17. Did you miss the part where I said I understand we need pitching? I even bolded the word “NEEDED”. My point is a good GM “should” explore any and all trade options if it improves the team. Would I PREFER they trade for pitching? Absolutely but would I look into trying to get a highly touted OF prospect if I didn’t have to overpay for him? Absolutely as well. My “opinion” (once again I know I have to stress that on this board) is that Frazier is better (or will be better) than any OFer on our roster. Read up on his scouting report if you have the time. To suggest however that we shouldn’t look into trading for someone like him simply because we need pitching doesn’t make sense to me. Hypothetically (and this is VERY hypothetical) if the Astros wanted to trade George Springer to us, should we simply answer the phone and say “Sorry...we’re only interested in trading for a pitcher”?
  18. Why not? Again, I pay close attention to all teams prospects and my personal opinion is that Clint Frazier is going to be a star sooner than later. Not saying you have to believe that but depending on what the Yanks want for him, why not at least explore the option? They say you can never have too much pitching but can’t that honestly be said about every position? I’ve read more than one scouting report where Frazier has drawn Mike Trout comparisons. I’m not gullible enough to believe he WILL become Trout but he’s obviously coveted by other teams and given the fact that the Yankees have a logjam in the OF, they might be willing to trade him.
  19. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what to believe and what not to believe about Angelos potentially nixing a trade that would send Manny to New York. I honestly don’t know what to believe. My personal opinion is you trade him to whatever team offers the best package for him but I certainly wouldn’t put it past Angelos to step in and nix a trade that would send him to the Bronx. That being said, the Yankees have someone that I believe they’d at least consider trading if they get an attractive offer (that wouldn’t include Manny). That player is Clint Frazier. I know, I know...we need PITCHING. No arguments from me on that HOWEVER the Yankees OF is LOADED right now so perhaps they’d be willing to trade him. This is a guy who, not long ago, was being compared to Trout and again, just my personal opinion, had only just begun to tap into his potential. I have no idea what the Yankees would want in return but shouldn’t we at least inquire??? I pay a TON of attention to prospects and I believe Frazier is the real deal so even though we NEED pitching, what’s the harm in asking what New York would want for him?
  20. Agree 100%. There is ZERO chance the Yankees trade Severino.
  21. Anyone notice the little “an organization built on a passionate fan base” blurb? It’s nice to see that Olney realizes we are passionate. He didn’t HAVE to mention that but I think it’s nice he did.
  22. Exactly why I think they should, at the very least, pick up the phone and see if there could be a potential match. Perhaps I’m in the minority but I’d be ok with giving up 2-3 of our top prospects to get a few years of Cole and again, if we’re not in playoff contention (which will most likely be the case), we try and trade Manny and Cutch before the deadline and get a few good prospects in return (perhaps recoup a good portion of the prospects we traded to get Cole/Cutch) or if we can’t trade them, get 2 draft picks which could also potentially help us recoup some of what we traded away. Another reason I think we should at least try is because, as someone else stated, Cutch’s contract this year isn’t an albatross so we wouldn’t even be raising the salary that much. At this point, I personally think it’s one of our best options IF we can work it out.
  23. Just curious here but would we really have to give up 3-4 top prospects for Cole since the Pirates want Cutch included in the deal? I don’t disagree that Cole by himself would take 3-4 top prospects but Cole with Cutch may not take as much. Maybe I’m wrong. I just look at it this way...worst case scenario is that we have to give up a top prospect or two but we get that young, controllable pitcher we’re looking for and we can either trade Manny and Cutch at the deadline OR if we can’t trade them, we get a draft pick for each. I certainly don’t want us to get simply a draft pick for Manny (actually I’d be quite infuriated like most of you) however if the worst case scenario is that we end up wit Cole and 2 draft picks while having to give up 1-2 top prospects (and let’s not kid ourselves...we know “our” top prospects are different than “other teams” top prospects), I’m honestly intrigued. Again...just an idea. It’s very possible we don’t have enough to make the trade but if we did, I’d at least consider it.
  24. Reports are out that the Pirates are shopping Gerrit Cole but that they also want to include McCutchen in a deal. If the O’s can’t trade Manny right now, I personally would love to try and work something out with the Pirates to make this happen. Cole is only $3.75 million and under control for 2 more years. Cutch is due $14.5 million and is a FA after this season. Again...IF the O’s can’t trade Manny right now, I would think that adding Cole and McCutchen would make us pretty competitive this year. Most likely not enough to be playoff contenders this year however couldn’t we then trade Manny and Cutch before the trade deadline? Also...wouldn’t we get a pick if we didn’t trade Cutch? Having Cole, Bundy and Gausman would be, at the very least, an exciting 1-2-3 punch. Maybe I’m way off base with my opinion but I like the possibilities. Thoughts?
  25. Given that this thread is already 174 pages deep, I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this or not but has anybody taken the “What if the shoe were on the other foot?” mentality here? As O’s fans, OF COUSRSE we know how great Manny is and BELIEVE he’s worth 2-3 top prospects but what if we had a loaded farm system and another team were trying to trade us Manny for, most likely, a 1 year rental? How many of you would truly be ok with trading the farm (pun intended) for 1 year of Manny? I’m honestly just curious?
