  1. Who’s going to verify them? The school? The third-party investigation that’s being treated like a joke, allegedly? Durkin? ESPN’s article drew in multiple sources, both still with the program and not, both athletes and people around the program. Playing any sport at a high level is tough and demanding. What’s described in this piece is a country mile beyond tough and demanding. They worked a kid to death. Court and Durkin at a minimum should be gone.
  2. I’m hearing Jones won’t be moving. My source seems to trust his sources.
  3. Generally? I would say there's somewhere between a "Well, I like the kid but I wouldn't have taken him there over some of the other guys" and a "This guy's going to wind up as a reliever lol the O's are a joke" sentiment on Rodriguez. It's nearly consensus on Grenier.
  4. No, but when the consensus is "this is a glove-first slap-hitter that didn't hit the ball with any authority in college" then I pay attention to that. If he suddenly develops into a doubles hitter, I'll be thrilled, and so will the Orioles. But nothing in his tape suggests that power surge is coming as he moves to the minors.
  5. Some of us like to have something more than speculation to go off of. 🤷‍♂️
  6. I can read scouting reports. 🤷‍♂️
  7. Mike Bordick could hit, though.
  8. Overall, yes. With pitchers though, you can usually look at their delivery and have an idea about the kind of strain their mechanics causes.
  9. He said that in a mock before the O’s ever touched him, though. He thought that because he thinks that’s Rodriguez’ delievery is high-effort, so it isn’t as easy to repeat it over the course of a start.
  10. Any idea where Rodriguez would slot in on our prospect rankings? Not that our prospect list is all that glamorous.
  11. It wouldn't. But he seemed to get better as the season went on and he got more at-bats under his belt. Put it to you this way: I'd be interested in seeing what he could do during a full year as a starter. I just don't want the Orioles to be the team to do it at this point. If they were rebuilding, I'd be intrigued enough to run him out there.
  12. Well, I mean... he hit for a .690 OPS last year. So technically, he already HAS gotten close to it. He also put up 1.9 WAR, compared to Markakis' 2.5. He's not a world-beater, but he's not garbage. He's also better than 2013 Markakis was.
  13. Including the minors, or are you just looking at his limited ML time as a part-time player? He has the potential to do it. He has the speed to do it, his defense is impeccable, and his walk rate isn't bad. He will not hit for power, though. You'll get about a .700 OPS out of him. I don't know if that's good enough for where the Orioles want to be.
  14. Ah, talk radio, the barometer. I am a huge fan of Markakis. He carried this team for a few years and signed an extension when the Orioles were toxic. He never really was the same after Sabathia came inside on him. I will always appreciate what he meant to the franchise. Going 4 years on him is silly, though. The Braves are silly. I think he is replaceable. I think there are options to do it sitting out there that wouldn't cost the team a lot, either in dollars/years or in trade. But I will miss the hell out of #21, even if it winds up making the team better in the end.
  15. I'd be very interested in seeing what it would take to get Jay Bruce as a replacement, if he is in fact available.
  16. What bothers me most about this series isn't that we are getting beat. I can handle getting beat. I handled it two years ago when the Yankees beat us in the ALDS. What bothers me is that we're losing in the most existentially painful way possible. We're losing in a way that makes me question all of the rules and laws that I know of that govern the universe. 17. Insert obligatory "was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor" post here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. The fun thing is that, talent wise, the Royals probably underachieved during the regular season. Now that they're hot (and they were streaky all year), Yost will get all the credit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I hate this narrative. The AL East had the best combined winning percentage of any division in baseball. There may not have been a second really good team, but it was not the NL West. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I am convinced that literally nothing will break the Orioles' way ever again. That's what I have taken away from this series. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Another damn pop up. Come on, Hardy.
  22. I hate bunting. Always. But I'd be tempted.
