I love a good Rom-Com.     Depending how you want to define them, here are some of my favorites:

    When Harry Met Sally

    Sleepless in Seattle

    It Happened One Night

    Adam’s Rib

    Silver Linings Playbook

    Enough Said

    The Big Sick

    The Philadelphia Story

    Bringing Up Baby

    Moonstruck

As you can see, I like mixing in the real oldies.

Great taste, these are all classics Silver Linings Play Book is a personal fav.

A team gets busted for cheating and everyone thinks they're an expert on picking up telltale signs about cheating going on.

Maybe this is real, maybe this isn't.  But I think it could be a case of people seeing what they want to see, too.

Not strictly Orioles-related, but since we’re discussing the Astros’ situation on this board, this certainly seemed like fair game.

     https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/28495642/source-astros-interview-buck-showalter-managerial-vacancy

Buck seems a little Old School for the Astros, but maybe that’s a good antidote for their current situation and perhaps Buck can learn some new tricks in an organization that has a very strong analytical bent.

It would help to restore some of Houston's lost respectability as well. Buck's as straight an arrow as there is in the game. And if the Stros can't use him the Mets can.

In the last couple of years there have been some long term deals made with players with little or no major league experience:

Scott Kingery: 6/$24 mm before he’d played a game in the majors.  Team options for $13/$14/$15 mm for three FA years.    Covers ages 24-32.   Was BA #31 prospect.   Produced -1.3 rWAR in the first year of the deal but improved to 3.0 rWAR in year two.

Brandon Lowe: 6/$24 mm after one partial season (43 games) in the majors.   Team options for $10.5 mm/$11.5 mm for two FA years.   Covers ages 24-30.   Was BA #93 prospect before his partial debut season.   Produced 0.7 rWAR in the partial season before he signed, and 2.9 rWAR in the first year of the deal.

Eloy Jimenez: 6/$43 mm before he’d played a game in the majors.  Team options at $16.5/$18.5 mm for two FA years.   Covers ages 22-29.   Was BA #3 prospect before his debut season.   Produced 1.4 rWAR in first year of his deal.

Would you offer a deal like that to Hays or Mountcastle at this point?   Say, 6/$24 mm with two team options at $12 mm each?

Please answer the poll, but I’m interested to hear why or why not.   Also, anyone else you’d consider at this point?

I need to see both play a full year in the ML.

Let’s start with this: I don’t want to hear about scenarios that are “rosy” because we end up with the no. 1 draft pick.   I’m only talking about scenarios where we win more games than expected.   What could that look like?

    - Mountcastle’s debut is like Trey Mancini’s rookie year.

    - Mancini and Alberto hold serve compared to 2020.

    - Hays provides an .800ish OPS and solid defense in CF.

    - Either Richie Martin equals or betters his second half offensive performance, or we find someone who does.

    - Means holds serve.

    - Cobb stays relatively healthy and pitches decently.

    - Akin is equal to Bundy.

    - We find someone with a pulse who outperforms Hess/Ynoa/Brooks/Straily

    - Givens and Castro perform closer to career norms pre-2019.

Honestly, even if most of that happened, I think we’d only win about 65 games.   And obviously, it won’t all happen.

These to have to happen for anything Rosy. If they do my best case scenario is we lose less than 100.

It is so hard to stomach the O's rebuild. I know it needs to be done, but it is hard to take. The season hasn't even started yet and we know we are facing a more than 110 loss season. It is so hard watching other teams making moves while we trade away our 2 best players for what little hope we can have for an entertaining season.

    I much prefer this to 1998 -2011

    C Severino/Caleb

    1B Mancini

    2B Hanser

    SS Hechevaria

    3B Ruiz/Nunez

    LF Mountcastle

    CF Hays

    RF Santandar

    DH Nunez/Davis

Team looks more interesting than last years.

    Rendon ~$30m

    Bumgarner ~$30m

    Keuchel ~$20m

Solid top 3 rotation of Bumgarner, Keuchel and Means.   Cobb gets healthy or we find another option.  Rendon and Bumgarner are money in the playoffs.

Orioles opening day payroll currently stands at ~$60m according to spotrac.  Adding another $80m pushes that to $140m.

    This is cheaper'

I think Holt might be interesting to hit lead off or behind Alberto. .271 hitter .340 career OBP. He OBP was closer to .360 the last 2 seasons. He had a good SB/CS ratio before 27/7 before going 7/7 in 2018.

Love to see them sign Holt he can play every where.
