  1. Interesting tweet by Norfolk Tides beat writer Jared Diamond of the Virginian-Pilot this afternoon:
  2. FWIW, Baysox pitching coach Kennie Steenstra said this about Hoey's fastball:
  3. He has shutout the opposition over his last 12 1/3 innings with 17 strikeouts during that stretch. Had that outing In Trenton not occurred, he would have a 0.51 ERA. One of the scouts I talked with last week said he's another guy that should help the Orioles at some point this year. Of course, with Hoey, it seems like his confidence takes a hit every time he dons the big league uni. He should definitely be in Norfolk at the least.
  4. I'm in the middle of getting recaps compiled, but I'll have more to add later. I recorded some postgame video with Chorye tonight so be on the lookout for that later, too.
  5. It's as close to perfect as can be.
  6. ORIOLES: Corey Patterson LF Adam Jones CF Nick Markakis RF Miguel Tejada 3B Luke Scott DH Ty Wigginton 2B Matt Wieters C Garrett Atkins 1B Cesar Izturis SS Brian Matusz P
  7. No worries, Cindy. He'll be back on Monday.
  8. First pitch scheduled for 8:10 p.m.
  9. Grounds crew is pulling the tarp right now.
  10. Not yet. It's pouring right now so I can't imagine we're too close. I'll update as soon as I receive word.
  11. For those of you following the Hangout on Twitter, I'll be manning the @OriolesHangout feed throughout the game.
  12. Yes, and it looks like we're about to get pummeled by thunder and lightning, at least, according to weather.com.
  13. The tarp was just placed on the field. Looks like we'll be in a rain delay to start. The sky looks threatening, but I haven't noticed any rain drops just yet. Though my weather.com forecasting skills are predicting that we'll see them soon enough. That and, well, the fact that the tarp is on the field.
  14. I'll be filling in for Paul at Camden Yards this weekend. Here are tonight's lineups: CLEVELAND: Asdrubal Cabrera SS Grady Sizemore CF Shin-Soo Choo RF Travis Hafner DH Jhonny Peralta 3B Russell Branyan 1B Matt LaPorta LF Luis Valbuena 2B Lou Marson C Justin Masterson (0-3, 5.23 ERA) ORIOLES: Corey Patterson LF Adam Jones CF Nick Markakis RF Miguel Tejada 3B Luke Scott DH Ty Wigginton 2B Matt Wieters C Rhyne Hughes 1B Cesar Izturis SS Jeremy Guthrie P (1-4, 4.67 ERA)
  15. I completely agree with you. Over the past 3+ seasons in the minors, I've never had a problem with a single player. The only guy who refused to talk on the record, about anything baseball, was Luis Jimenez. Even still, Luis and I would routinely chat around the batting cage and I found he was a genuinely good guy. Hilarious, really. I remember walking to the press box before a game in Harrisburg two years ago and I heard a voice call my name from another direction. I turned around and Luis, then a member of the Senators, was sitting outside the Harrisburg clubhouse with a big smile on his face. He walked over, rubbed my head, told me I needed a haircut and asked me what I had been up to away from the park. I always appreciated that even a guy who preferred not to talk with the media after a game was still nice enough to treat me like a person. I try to tell people that, at the very, very least, this organization can pride themselves on signing both quality ballplayers and quality people.
  16. The latest Baseball America transactions dated March 31 indicate that the Orioles have re-signed RHP Bob McCrory.

I saw that Josh Bell's Twitter account no longer exists. I'm guessing this is some sort of Orioles policy?

  20. Per Baseball America: Baltimore Orioles: Former Orioles Boston Red Sox: Cincinnati Reds Colorado Rockies Philadelphia Phillies
  21. He was really dominant after slumping over his first few outings with the Baysox. Pitching coach Larry McCall simply attributed that early ineffectiveness to jitters upon reaching Double-A again. Lebron finished the 2007 season with Bowie, too, but was only there for the final week of action. He's a guy that is, at times, effectively wild as Jeremy alluded to. It seems that almost every pitch is a tick or two from eclipsing the 100 MPH threshold.
  22. Former Bluefield manager Bobby Dickerson returns to the organization to serve as roving Minor League infield instructor and Latin American field coordinator. Dickerson also served as the Orioles minor league infield instructor from 1994-1997 and managed the Bluefield Orioles during the 1996 and 1997 seasons winning back-to-back Appalachian League championships. He was the manager of the Iowa Cubs in 2009.
  23. The deal is reportedly a one-year contract worth 40 million yen plus performance bonuses. For those of you wondering how Fio cashed out with a multi-million yen contract, according to this converter, it translates to roughly $450,000.
  24. Thank you everyone. I sincerely appreciate all the support. I'm already looking forward to next season! While we're on the subject, I'd like to send my heartfelt thanks to Baysox communications manager Tom Sedlacek. Tom is one of the best in the business and we're lucky to have him do all that he does in Bowie. From arranging interviews to providing me with fantastic statistics, Tom was my go-to guy. He'll be in the big leagues soon enough. I'd also like to thank Baysox communications intern Andrew Zelinsky for all the help and laughs he provided this past season. And of course the Baysox press box crew, namely, Jake Linger of the Bowie Blade-News; Mike Jaffe of scout.com; Dean Jones Jr. of the Baltimore Sun and the legendary Ed Brown of the Ed Brown Show. See you all next year!
