  1. I see a lot of great points for pursuing a trade for Upton both pro and con. Bear in mind, also, the trend that players before better in "walk" years and an up year for Upton looks pretty good in the box scores. I also think he fits the profile for the Orioles, maybe - a guy who needs to prove something to get a big payday.
  2. That's not exactly how it went down, it's got more to do with spiteful John McGraw and the breakup of the original Orioles club.
  3. Don't confuse "Conrad McGorkin" with all Royals fans the same way he confuses some reactionary comments on a fan forum with all Orioles fans. If a few dismayed fans give this guy pleasure, well, what does that say about him? All that counts happens between the white lines at The K starting at 8:07 tonight. The rest is just what it smells like.
  4. If you took the 18 extra minutes of commercials out then 3:23 isn't too bad for a close post-season games. If I remember my history correctly, teams used to use far less relievers also. I'm not sure if TBS built in extra ads for pitching changes as well. It's funny, when you are winning the games don't seem so long!
  5. Bill James published a series of 4 recommendations in his Baseball Abstract. I'll have to grab my copy sometime later to rattle off all 4, but they were little changes that hardly anyone would really notice and would speed things up considerably. The 1966 Series featured great pitching on both sides. They didn't have all the on-base and run-scoring that the 2014 ALCS has featured thus far. All things being equal, a lot of factors are contributing to these 4+ hour games. I'd feel a lot better about it if our guys could get some 3-up, 3-down innings under their belts. Then I could blame TBS 100%. And I like blaming TBS because I find their coverage subpar, to be kind about it. In any case, it doesn't look good for getting a game in tonight. Hopefully, it's enough to disrupt the KC momentum.
  6. Not a fan of either's coverage and 4 hours is just too long for a game. Seems to me they should charge more for their 30-second spots and let the game be played. But it's this way in every sport now - all about ad revenues, so on and so forth.
  7. 18 minutes. Extra 60 seconds per break. Also with this series, both teams are putting a lot of runners on base.
  8. There is no way you see Cano in orange next Spring. I like the of finding an upgrade to Saunders to further anchor the rotation.
  9. Why do we need to shed Markakis' contract?
  10. I'd sign McLouth if he'll sign here. If we trade, we'll be trading to replace Reynolds or for a top pitcher.
  11. I think McLouth has earned a starting job but there is no promise of that here. He'd have to compete with Reimold for the starting gig in the Spring.
  12. I considered that, but if he wins 18 the Orioles would make him untouchable, I would think.

  14. I kind of want to hold on to Tillman too considering his second half performance. On the other side of the coin, his trade value will probably never be higher. And another consideration, why didn't Buck use him? Was he concerned about the pressure getting to Tillman? If we want to compete like this year after year we are going to need guys who can handle the postseason. I could see us going in big on Greinke. That seems like a good investment. I am torn on Reynolds. Love his glove. We have an option on Reynolds, I don't know how that plays on the trade market. Yes, Thome is done. Does anyone know what bats are available after Hamilton and if any offensively minded 2B would be available?
  15. I don't agree with Law's assessment but give credit to him for sticking to his guns. I just don't see how "flukes" occur over 162 games. Statistical oddities? Sure. But statistical oddities aren't going to get you 30 wins. Maybe 5 or 6? Based on run differential, weren't we basically a .500 team? That's what we thought was reasonable for this club. They got the benefit of some luck and probably some long overdue corrections... but, I see .500 ballclubs as good. .600 ballclubs are great. Were we great this season? By no stretch of the imagination. Were we good? Absolutely.
  16. How do you see the list of priorities lining up for this Winter? I see: 1. Extend Buck and the coaching staff. A no brainer. Best manager in the game today as evidenced by his record and his job performance in Baltimore 2. Extend Wieters. Catchers tend to start hitting later in their career. He may never put up the offensive numbers that were projected, but he could turn in .250/25/75 seasons consistently and his work behind the plate is Gold Glove-caliber. 3. Top of the Rotation Starter - I've heard the Marlins will shop Josh Johnson and that Greinke will be a free agent. Tillman is excellent trade bait. So is Britton. 4. A Big Bat - Is Hamilton a fit here? His numbers at Camden Yards are impressive but his postseason performance is not. Remind you of anyone? Maybe with Hamilton we can put up enough offense that we have home-field advantage. Would we have won this series with 3 @ home? Your thoughts?
  17. They are kind enough to give us a couple more innings to enjoy baseball this season. The meat of our order is like 3 for 30 and 2 of those hits were infield singles? Disappointing.
  18. WOW, Jones manages to get yet another chance to save his reputation here tonight.
  19. Brace yourselves, the Severna Park Sellout is up
  20. Way to swing at one in the dirt. Shocking. Our guys aren't ready for this level of play, looking totally overmatched now.
  21. Do hitters still need to be able to hit the breaking ball to play in the majors?
