  4. o Lew Ford has nothing on this guy. A player by the name of Billy Williams (not THAT Billy Williams) died yesterday, 2 days short of his 81st birthday. Williams played 18 seasons in the Minor Leagues from 1952-1969 before finally having the privilege of making it to the Major Leagues for 4 games with the Seattle Pilots in August of 1969. The final 9 years of his career (1961-1969) were all spent strictly at the highest level of the minors (AAA) just waiting, and waiting, and waiting for that call. Kudos to the late Marvin Milkes and Dewey Soriano (the General Ganager and the owner of that Pilots team, respectively) for finally giving him the chance to put on a Major League uniform, get on the field, and get himself into the Baseball Encyclopedia forever. 5. o Vida Blue, Ken Holtzman, Blue Moon Odom, Rollie Fingers ...... that kind of pitching will go a long way toward getting you 5 straight division titles, and 3 straight World Championships. o
  6. o Well, he may have been forced to throw a few additional pitches, getting the proverbial 4th out. o
  7. o He made up for it in his next Plate Appearance, with his butterfly slide into 2nd base ...... they called him out, but he was really safe. They didn't have absolute/100% proof to overturn the call. If there is even the slightest bit of doubt, they are obliged to keep the call on the field that way it was. o
  8. o Trevor Rogers )was a 1st-round draft choice out of high school, in 2017. The Marlins gave him a $3.4 Million signing bonus. On the pitcher's mound, Rogers has recorded 23 Strikeouts in only 15 Innings Pitched so far this season. However, his Walk-rate is also very high ...... he has ceded 10 Free Passes overall (9 Walks and 1 Hit Batsman) in those 15 Innings. In 7 out of their last 8 games, the Marlins' offense scored a total of 47 runs (an average of 6.7 runs per game) ...... the one exception was when they were shut out by a score of 1-0 by the Giants on Sunday. 13. o Somewhat ironically, the oft-injured Hays saw his first bit of action in his return from the IL because of an injury to another player during the game. o
  14. o (vs. MARLINS, 4/20) After Shawn Armstrong started a gasoline fire in the 6th inning, the rest of the bullpen came in and put out the fire to secure Matt Harvey's first) W )of the 2021 season. o
  15. o It could be worse ...... the Yankees could have won the World Series last year, and they would then be filled with N.Y. Yankee junk. o
  16. o 60% of the outs that Harvey recorded (9 out of 15) came via the Groundout and the Strikeout. Harvey generally danced in an out of troublea few times tonight ...... perhaps the 3rd and final run that he ceded could have been avoided by a better play by the shortstop, when there were 2 outs and a runner on 2nd base. 15 OUTS: ) 5 Groundouts, 4 Strikeouts, 3 Lineouts (Including 1 Double Play), 2 Flyouts MATTHEW EDWARD HARVEY )))))))) (FINAL NUMBERS) IP:.ll5 H:lllll8 ) l(1 Triple, 7 Singles) R:llll 3 BB:ll0 SO:ll4 Pitches: l) 82 )(50 )Strikes, )32 )Balls) 2021 ERA: l) 5.12 ) 19.33 IP (11 ER) 2021 WHIP: l) 1.397 ) 19.33 IP (27 H/BB) 2021 OPPONENTS BATTING AVG: l) .289 )l (24 for 83) PITCHES BY INNING ******************* 16 llll(91 llllStrikes, lll71 lllBalls) 10 llll(71 lllStrikes, lll31 lllBalls) 22 llll(14 lllStrikes, lll81 lllBalls) 91 llll(61 lllStrikes, llll31 lllBalls) 25 llll(14 lllStrikes, lll11 lll.Balls) o
  17. o (ADAM PLUTKO) Plutko inherited a real mess tonight (bases loaded with nobody out), and taking that into consideration, I believe that he did a reasonably good job getting out of the inning with the Orioles still clinging to a 1-run lead. Armstrong had just walked 2 out of the 3 batters that he faced (with the other batter reaching on a single), and Plutko immediately started throwing strikes ...... 15 out of the 16 pitches that he threw in the mess of an inning that he inherited were strikes. Then he struck out the first batter of the next inning on only 4 more pitches. His finally tally was: )))20 Pitches )(18 )Strikes, )2 )Balls.) o
  18. o Remember Garo Yepremian's "pass" attempt in Super Bowl VII ??? o

  23. o Another factor in regard comparing the batting of pitchers way back to pitchers today is that when Palmer was coming up, all pitchers hit for themselves, from Little League to the Major Leagues, and everywhere in between. Now, it's the complete opposite ...... today, High School Varsity pitchers don't even hit for themselves. Today, with the exception of the National League, there is a DH for High School Varsity pitchers, Junior College pitchers, College pitchers, and all Minor League pitchers from the Rookie Leagues all the way up to AAA. The last time that Harvey batted for himself before he made it to the Majors was in Junior League, when he was 13 years-old. o
  24. o Scott, calm down. Palmer went on to hit 2 more home runs in his career, entailing 537 Plate Appearances. And his career batting average was .174. It's not that big of a deal, or that much of a discrepancy. They were both pitchers, and they both sucked at batting for themselves. Palmer sucked a little less than Harvey sucked, but it's hardly cause for alarm and/or bragging rights. o
