    Stroman to Mets

o Stroman pitched pretty well in his 11 starts after the trade, going 4-2 with a 3.77 ERA, although his WHIP in that span was rather high (1.475.) The Mets went 8-3 overall in Stroman's 11 starts. As a team, the Mets turned around what appeared to be a rather forgettable season shortly prior to the trade for Stroman ........ after starting the season at 46-55, they went 40-21 (.656) in their final 61 games of the season after that point, and tallied an 86-76 overall record. o

  14. o Tim Kurkjian points out that since that day, only two pitchers have thrown a 10-inning, 1-0 shutout ........ but neither has come in the post-season, let alone in Game 7 of the World Series. ) The 1979 Orioles are the last piece of the article, with Kurkjian referencing what went into Earl Weaver's decision to pinch-hit John Lowentstein for Mark Belanger for his game-winning, walk-off home run against the Angels in Game 1 of that season's ALCS, and the late Mike Flanagan explaining why the Orioles were slightly tardy for the pre-game introductions for Game 1 of the World Series against the Pirates ........ 16. o Morris' 10-Inning, CG-Shutout in Game 7 of the 1991 World Series was one of the last gasps to a soon-to-be-gone era of complete games and shutouts (in both the regular season and the post-season.) https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MIN/MIN199110270.shtml 2 years later, Curt Schilling's CG-Shutout in Game 5 of the 1993 World Series was perhaps equally as impressive, considering the circumstances ........ the Phillies' bullpen was so depleted from the previous day's 15-14 disaster that the late Jim Fregosi told Schilling before the game that there would be NO HELP FROM THE BULLPEN WHATSOEVER, regardless of the circumstances, and he meant it ........ Schilling threw 147 pitches in that game, and it was almost surreal looking at a (literally) empty Phillies bullpen in the 8th and 9th innings while the Phillies were clinging to a precarious 2-0 lead, and with his team being down 3 Games to 1 in the series overall. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/PHI/PHI199310210.shtml o

o (CARDINALS vs. BRAVES, 10/06) )))))) [NLDS, Game 3] 38 year-old veteran Adam Wainwright threw 7.67 Shutout Innings, in an extremely clutch performance when the Cardinals needed it in a pivotal 3rd game of this playoff series. Unfortunately for him, the Cardinal bullpen coughed up the team's slim 1-0 lead (and the game) in the 9th inning ........ that one really hurt. o

  19. o I rarely post here because I'm not a Ravens fan, but you all might want to check the alternate reality of what actually happened today ........ ESPN is claiming that the Ravens, who have not won a game yet this season, were crushed by the Patriots this afternoon. 20. o I just found out that in addition to being on double-deck in April of 1974 when Hank Aaron hit his 715th career home run (one more than Babe Ruth), former Oriole Davey Johnson was also on deck 2 and-a-half years later in October of 1976 when Sadaharu Oh hit his 715th career home run in the Japanese Leagues. The article erroneously claims that Johnson was on deck for both home runs ........ he was indeed on deck for Oh's 715th home run, but when I looked it up on baseball reference I found that Johnson was on double-deck for Aaron's 715th round-tripper. Dusty Baker was actually the man on deck for that historic blast. Both Johnson and Baker would eventually manage the Washington Nationals to playoff berths several decades later. What You Might not Know about Hank Aaron (By Dan Schlossberg) https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2014/04/07/what-you-might-not-know-about-hank-aaron/7429063/ o
  21. o In less than 24 hours, Oriole fans went from Heaven to Hell in 2 consecutive games against the Red Sox in 2009. In the first game the Orioles were losing by a score of 10-1, and came back to win by a score of 11-10. The best part of that game was when the Red Sox laughingly walked off of the field when there were only 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th inning ........ they had a huge lead at the time (9-1), and they were able to laugh at themselves for their blunder (but they were certainly not laughing at the end of the game.) https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BAL/BAL200906300.shtml The very next day, Brad Bergesen threw 8 innings of 1-run ball and left the game with a 5-1 lead ........ but the Orioles returned the previous day's favor, and allowed the Red Sox to score 4 runs in the top of the 9th inning to tie the game. The Bostonians eventually won it in the 12th. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BAL/BAL200907010.shtml o
  22. o Yes. I googled it, and came up with an article from May of 2012 ........ Etchebarren and Davey Johnson together saved Robinson after he accidentally fell into the pool.
