  1. Play guys that you think have a reasonable chance of helping the club in the future. High upside guys need as much playing time as possible. Our 40 man has to be the worst in baseball by a big margin. We are really devoid of any "can't miss" prospects. Give the young starters time, shut down Bundy. We have the next couple years to figure out who is a contributor. We should claim a lot of guys, we might have 15 guys out of 40 that I wouldn't miss at all.
  2. I agree that it will be a while before we contend again. Making the playoffs was fun while it lasted, but even then I didn't know many people that thought we were legit contenders to win the World Series. I think we should have tried trading a lot of our assets a couple years ago. I like some of our pitching prospects a lot, so it's fine that they are a few years away. I am worried that we lose a lot of fans in the next few years by having no "star" power for the casual fan, but I think slashing payroll as much as we can is benefical in the long run. Watching a few of the younger guys turn out to be solid MLB contributers would make it worth it though!
  3. Saying we should have gotten more for Gausman is like the guy on Ebay who prices everything too high and never sells anything. Someone is worth what you can get for them. Gausman, like Bundy and many others before him, saw his velocity drop and K rate decrease along with an increase in FIP. That shows a mediocre pitcher in the long term. I thought we could have gotten more as well, but the market said otherwise I suppose. We love selling too late which hurts the most. Gausman, Britton, Bundy, Machado, and Schoop were not traded at close to peak value.
  4. Yeah, I think it is a lack of talent. 4-5 of the lineup aren't major league talents, our starter was a long man at best, and our bullpen is awful. Doesn't help that some of the younger guys play bad defense and issue lots of walks either. Seeing Mullins and Scott are the two bright spots. Both have the chance to be good contributors on a playoff team. I think Givens bounces back, and Hayes starts to show his talent. Other than that, there's a lot of fodder right now.
  5. One of the things that frustrates a lot of Orioles fans is the lack of fumdamental baseball. At least make the guy hit the ball, don't walk a lot of guys. When you have a lack of talent at least do that. Don't get me started on the defense and lack of OBP.
  6. If he is not hurt than his career will be over in the next few years. I hate how many of our top pitching prospects fail. Bundy and Gausman were supposed to be TOR guys......just like Loewen, Matusz, Riley, etc.
  7. I think that is about right for Jones but a little high for Nick. Wouldn't be surprised if either took a one year deal.
  8. One dimensional guys who don't DH (and Danny was only like half dimensional) don't have much value. Someone will pick him up for 75 at bats or so.
  9. Name recognition is big for drawing in fans. Who said all nickames had to be positive. What are some of your favorite nicknames for Chris Davis? How about my personal favorite "The Say K Kid"? Seriously though, if he hasn't turned it around at all by the end of Spring Training then you have to cut him. It sends the wrong message otherwise. I don't see any way possible that we can trade him.
  10. Hey, a win!!!! Zach still looks pretty bad though. How do you walk a guy on four pitches with two outs? Bad wild pitch, not a good outing.
  11. Looks like he was trying to do way too much on the play. Just go with your initial instincts and get the sure out in a 1-0 game.
  12. That was worse than Profars play at second earlier. Realistically, Schoop should be charged with three errors on that play. Drops the grounder, decides to ignore the force at second like a dummy, and then throws it away at first.
  13. Wow, two bad mistakes in one play by Profar. Brutal stuff right there. I really don't see how Jones has value at all even though the announcers say there is.
  14. When they said "Brooks was here" I half expected him to be kicking out a chair and hanging after watching this team.
  15. It doesn't look like Yefry Ramirez has anorexia, but he sure has trouble finding the plate.
  16. I love being able to see the Orioles without cable in Southern Maryland for once! MLB audio is cool but I realize how much I miss seeing them. Would have liked to hear more cheers for Machado, but maybe it will come during his last AB. He really should be batting cleanup. Jones, Machado, Schoop all swinging at the first pitch....maybe I don't really want to see them after all, haha.
  17. Russell is solid defensively but not good at the plate. I would still take him for sure as the centerpiece of the trade, put him at SS and plug him in for the upcoming years. Him, Schoop, and a new 3b isn't too bad. Maybe Beckham comes back and proves last year wasn't a fluke. Can't expect much more for a 1/2 season rental. Maybe a B pitching prospect as well.
  18. They got grit down there. When you cut out cardboard for a glove and simultaneously add a window to your house the need to make it is strong!
  19. I imagine we have nowhere to go but up. Those are some pretty rough statistics though. We won't finish with a lower winning percentage than we have right now in my opinion.
  20. If we had a top offense, maybe we could absorb a rough outing by Tillman. If one cylinder in a Ferrari misfires you can compensate. We happen to be a Yugo right now.
  21. I think the worst case scenario is going to play out. Manny plays a bad SS and struggles on offense this year. Our demands are too high in a trade and he walks at the end of the year for just a pick. The Orioles often make the worst possible decisions they can make.
  22. I was wrong on him not making it out of the fifth, but I still insist he will struggle long term unless he chooses to either hit or pitch. His start was OK, ERA wise not amazing.
  23. He wont make it past the fifth. Sad what the Angels are doing with him. He clearly needs time in the minors.
  24. Interesting lineup, we shall see what happens. It's opening day, everyone should be all smiles!
