  1. Hey, anyone know what Ubaldo is doing?
  2. I was gping to vote for Trey numerous times. 2 times went ok. But the 3rd time I got stuck in the "are you a robot" thing. Round and round I went to the "click on all scenes that have a bus" then to "click on all scenes that have a traffic light" on and on ad nauseum. Finally escaped and got the vote recorded. Gak! Not doing that again..😧
  3. I have a brilliant (??) idea to at least fix our bullpen. Sign one or all of these guys to minor league contracts. None of them have pitched in the majors for at least 2 years. All of them were former starters who were demoted to mop up duty in the bullpen. So each has bullpen experience . Whoever of these guys we sign start them in the pen, in the minors. If any refuse a minor league assignment, release them right away. But my theory is that each will be very glad to get yet another chance. First clear up roster space by DFAing Straly. Then sign these guys to minor league contracts. Two of them are former Orioles and one (a 2 time Cy Young winner i) s not. Here they are: Tim Lincicum. Never been an Oriole . Got demoted to the pen by the Giants a few weeks after having pitched a nohitter. Spent the rest of the season pitching mop up. Also post season, including the World Series. Giant's management let him go; it was the end of his contract. Giant's fans loved him. Ubaldo Jimenez. Spent 4 years as an Oriole never living up to his 4 year contract. Very inconsistent. Never could figure it out, no matter how hard he worked. Became the most hated player on the Orioles. Got demoted to the pen severral times. He even earned a save. Was let go after his contract ended. Chris Tilllman. Injured his pitching shoulder. Thought it was cured after some time on the disabled (injured) list. After that he became wild, no pitch command. Eventually demoted.to mop up. Let go after the season. So what do we lose after signing at least one of these guys to a minor league contract? I know it's nuts but you never know..
  4. I tried to put in a poll but the system here wouldn't allow me to do so. It kept telling me that I made unspecified errors and wouldn't allow me to fix it. So I am putting my choices here as thoigh it were a poll. Some of the choices are nonsensical or semi- nonsensical. But some are serious. Feel free to comment. 1. Draft promising prospects in the draft. 2. Spend oodles of money to sign 1 or 2 top drawer TOR free agents 3. Sign Ubaldo Jimenez. He isn't doing anything, he's cheap. And he'd provide veteran presence. 4. Put Chris Davis in the rotation. 5. Look in the Orioles minor league system and see if there are truly any promising young candidates. 6. Snoop around other teams' minor league systems. See if there are any good prospects and trade for them. 7. Get rid of Mike Elias and Brandon Hyde. Bring back Dan Duquette and Buck Showalter. 8. All of the above. 9. None of the sbove. So what does Orioles management do?
  5. Just one in the overall category: change up. Jamie Moyer. He had around 5 different speeds of change ups. His "fastball" was around 85 mph.
  6. Oh well... I always liked Gonzo. 🤔
  7. So does anyone know about Miguel Gonzalez?
  8. Does anyone know what .Miguel Gonzalez is up to?
  9. Os win!! Wrong thread because CD hsd nothing to do with it. But Os WIN!!
  10. It seems that CD is hitting the ball toward LF. That's progress.
  11. Maybe this is s silly idea. But unless/until he turns it around, can Hyde have the pitchers hit and put in a DH for Davis?
  12. You know what he needs to do? Learn how to bunt along the 3rd base line. This isn't last year's team or teams from the Showalter/Duquette era where all they did was try and hit it out of the park. Davis needs to get with the current time. Bunt the ball, dash down to 1b. Steal 2b. And so forth.
  13. 1I LOVE this team! In some ways, they resemble the Go-Go Sox (white not red) from back in 1959 when I rooted for them back in Chicago where I grew up. They hit, they run, they steal bases, they pitch. And they even hit home runs once in a while. They're not going to have 4 game (so far) winning streaks all the time. But they are a hungry team that wants to win.
  14. I know that my plus membership was renewed for the coming year. And yes, I have been away for awhile. But baseball season is coming on.
  15. The best thing for Bud Norris was being demoted to the bullpen and then being released a bit later. After spending a few years in various teams' bullpens he became the St Louis Cardinals closer.
  16. I heard Dan on the radio that not giving either of these 2 guys 4 years was a "baseball" decision made by him . As for not signing international prospects, it was made quite clear that this was Peter Angelos "s decision.
  17. I haven't been much of a DD fan. I was mad when he refused to give Cruz and Markakis 4 year deals and let them walk. Then he turned around and gave my ol' buddy Ubaldo a 4 year deal. Then he gave us such gems as Travis Snyder and Gene Parra. As for Whiff Davis, my understanding is that this was mostly an ownership deal and DD can't be blamed for this one. But DD gave us some nice players. Zach Britton, Adam Jones, Chris Tillman (when he was good), and plenty of others (I'm getting old and my memory ain't what it used to be). We had some good years. Most of these guys are gone and we're going through a rebuild, which we need. Dan got us started.
  18. Sorry to see Buck go. He wasn't perfect, but he brought a winning culture to the Orioles. I don't know about anyone but I LIKE OUR GUY!!
  19. He could become a decent mop up man. And who knows? Maybe he could become a 2-way player like Shohei Ohtani.
  20. But we can gently suggest that it's for his own team's good, as it's for his own -- that he should become a top pitcher in the winter league. And if he refuses this fabulous offer, then he can spend next season riding the pine. I may be wrong, but I think he'd rather learn how to be a top pitcher than sit on the bench as spectator.
  21. I voted "other". I'd put him in the bullpen . Let him pitch mopup for a while. Then let him pitch in higher leverage situations. In the meantime, let him pitch in the winter leagues
  22. I'm really getting to like this guy. Dirty uniform , especially in the front, saw him run out a grounder that turned a typically Orioles out into a hit, stole 2nd base, eventually scored. I've been hungry for a long time for baseball like this.
  23. Move Davis into the bullpen. He can do mop up for now. Then have him play winter ball and teach him.how to mix up pitches. You never know, he might become our closer. 😎
  24. I'd rather see pitchers flailing away than see DHs flail as they swing for the fences. And actually, in some instances, a manager could switch Mycheal Givens to SS (his original position) and bring in another reliever. After the AB, or perhaps for the next AB as well, take the reliever out and put Givens back in as the pitcher, and do some other switching so that the SS can play reasonably well. Or perhaps relief pitchers should learn a position, then they could switch back and forth for an inning or two. Better yet, get more pitchers who can slug like Madison Baumgarner - you should Google him and see what he thinks of the DH. As for shifts, hitters should learn how to adjust. Perhaps more switch hitting would help this problem. Also learning how to bunt. As for commercials, they affect shortening the time between half innings. Also for pitcher changes. These commercials bring revenue to the teams. Maybe they should be juried by a panel of fans, so the stupid or obnoxious ones could be eliminated. 🤗
